So, these guys are building a 21 foot long rocket powered X-Wing fighter. It is set to launch on Oct 6th.

So Oct 6th we'll be reading news stories about a fiery X-Wing crash?
Oh - that is so cool!

Hahahaahahah, that is probably more true than they want to admit.

on second thought, making it out of balsa wood probably wasn't a good idea

It sure did not stay together very long.

I agree with that....stayed together for what....3 seconds? lol Too bad, it was pretty cool.

That looked incredibly cool. For a few seconds.
Very cool as you guys said - for a few seconds. Reminds me way back when I built a model rocket shaped like the Enterprise. That flew for about the same amount of time.
When I was 15 I built a two stage rocket from a kit I bought at Payless. I spent hours on that baby. I did the final coat of paint before I left for summer camp and left it to dry in my room. When I got back my uncles had taken it out into our field and launched it off. The only problem is that they put the second engine in backwards. So when I got home there was a burnt looking object in my bedroom with a melted nosecone. I was pretty ticked, but I guess the fireworks were awesome. they bought me a new kit. :)
I've heard your other stories about your uncles...that was rotten.
At least they bought you a new kit. Did the second one work?
My uncle used to throw my cat up on the roof to tease me. He also hung our bikes up in the top of a tree once. Oh...we got him back. Muhhhhaaahaaa!
We got up early and smeared, wet, red clay all over the brand new truck that he was way too proud of. We covered every last bit of it. When he found it...the mud had dried. It's not easy to get off.
My sister once dumped his Copenhagen out and replaced the tobacco with the dirt that comes in the containers they ship earth worms in. Of course he knew it wasn't tobacco but it still was great.
He didn't tease us much after we started pulling those types of retaliatory pranks.

Wow....evil stuff here...lol. Sadly, I have nothing nearly as impressive. Though...you should have seen the war between me and my little brother. I'm so happy to be out of the house...he's becoming a worse teenager than my 2nd brother and I combined. And thats saying something...of course...I won't mention the pantsing incident ;)

Oh, man. I watched that video on YouTube a day or so ago, and all I can think whenever I see it is, "Almost there . . . allllmosssst therrrre!"
A Y-Wing went up at the same time the X-Wing went up. Looks like similar results as it broke apart.

That was a cool take off though.

And come to think of it, the way the Y-Wing disintegrated was much more true to how they exploded in the movies: the engine mounts buckle, the pods go off to the sides, and then the cockpit goes up in flames. The X-Wing was close, but you could tell that it was essentially like trying to launch a giant parachute off the ground.
I think an A-Wing might have fared better, more compact shape.
That could be. Should have thought about that.
King Linksr
Heh. Maybe they should try launching a Borg cube.
...no that would be bad, cause then it would work, and they would try and...oh shoot...."WE ARE THE BORG, YOUR PRIMIATE AND STUPID RACE WILL SURRENDER AND ASSIMILATE WITH US. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!!!!!
