Title: Finally, my sunflower bloomed!
Post by: moyer777 on September 20, 2007, 11:26:03 PM
I was concerned that my sunflower may not bloom before the cold set in, but much to my surprise in all of the rain, it finally bloomed!

from a different perspective...

and just when you thought you had seen all of the sunflower you wanted....

Very nice.  I used to grow some of those at our old house that had a much larger backyard.  Beautiful pics.

So, like, do you ever harvest the sunflower seeds and eat them?   :)

If the summer would have been warmer and the bloom would have been sooner, yes.

But, it isn't mature and the cold weather is coming quickly, so no big seeds this year.  If it had matured, you take the seeds off of the flower soak them in salt water and then roast them in the oven on 350 for about 45 minutes.  They are pretty tasty!

That's awesome. I always find that sunflowers really impress me. They're so huge.

Too bad about the seeds though. Roasted sunflower seeds are too die for. We used to do that a lot with pumpkin seeds too. Very tasty.

You should see my Grandmother's sunflowers.  Huge 8 feet tall ones.  About 25 of them.  Sadly, I don't have pics of them.  Maybe I'll get her to send me some...

That one is very nice though.
