This is the counter to the other thread. List movies you feel are under appreciated or underrated. I'll start with a recent summer one. "STARDUST." Really loved that movie.... a lot! I'll add another one from not too long ago called "The Fountain." :wub
The Long Kiss Goodnight
I agree with Stardust.. what a great movie.. and I also agree with The Long Kiss Goodnight.. such a great flick, the deer scene at the beginning... wow.
I think Star Trek Nemesis and Insurrection are underrated films. I also think Disney's Pocahontas and also The Hunchback of Notre Dame are underrated. Pocahontas is one the most beautiful and artistic films ever done by Disney and Hunchback is amazing in story and art.
Kevin
I half agree with you Ktrek... Nemesis and Insurrection are underrated... but Pocahontas and Notre Dame are my least favorite Disney films.

What is it that you don't like Kenny? Is it the liberties that were taken with the stories? Disney does that for everything! Is it the artwork? Have you actually looked at the detail of the scenes? Perhaps the soundtracks? I don't think Alan Menken ever wrote better scores! Maybe the messages? See...this is why I think they are underrated. I have watched each of these films dozens of times and my appreciation grows with every viewing.
I like the Pocahontas song. :)
Some may disagree with me, but I really like the first RoboCop movie. I'd buy that for more than a dollar. Yeah, definitely under-rated.

I didn't enjoy the stories. I thought the artwork and music were great. Just didn't enjoy the stories. Most Disney films suck me in and I enjoy the ride.. I didn't get that with these two films.
Starship Troopers and the Fifth Element as far as some underated sci-fi.
I'm a sucker for Disney animated films. Most of those came out when my kids were younger and I could take them and enjoy them too.
I'll add "Donnie Darko" to this list even though it's becoming a bit of a cult classic. Love that movie.
I have to agree with The Long Kiss Goodnight. I would also add Tombstone because it opened my eyes to the western and caused me to see The Outlaw Josie Wells. I would also say that Water World was far better than critics and box receipts suggested. I will probably make a list at some point.
Oh yeah.. Waterworld was a good movie.
I like westerns too...I think Quiggly Down Under, staring Tom Selleck, was a good movie, I don't think it got nearly the kudos it deserved. I also liked Always. It was a great movie with John Goodman and Helen Hunt and a cameo appearance by Audrey Hepburn. Hummm, what else? A Sci-Fi movie I liked that I think was underrated: Enemy Mine with Dennis Quid and Louis Gossett, Jr.

Yeah I always thought Water World got a bad rap I always thought it was a fun movie. On a side note I actually got kicked off one of the Water World Sets.. When I was in the Army stationed in Hawaii. We were training on the Big Island & we were waiting at the Docks for our equipment to get there. So while we waited we would hike to a 7 Eleven a mile or 2 away & I had decided if we cut through the docks we would get there quicker. Anyway we turned this corner and we right in the middle of a dock where they were keeping the boats & jet ski's and what I found out later was the Atol set. Didn't get to meet any of the actors as Security moved us along pretty quick.
Michigan State Spartans
Transformers The Movie. One of the few movies to make me cry. The benchmark in American anime.
Another underrated Kevin Costner film was "The Postman". A very good post-apocalyptic film.
From IMBD:
"The problem with this film is, that it's sci-fi, and as we all know, sci-fi has that nasty habit of making people think. And hay, who likes to do that nowadays? This film asks the question...what if, right now, all of civilization fell apart. no more super-market, no more police, no more government. The truth of all things would be revealed...money would be just green paper, your television would be a piece of junk, and everything that you lived for would take a back seat to survival. Who would you be? a Warrior, a wonderer, a tyrant, a diplomat? would the meek inherit the earth?
Ditto! :)

I thought Always was well recieved as well as Enemy Mine. I liked both of those as well. I even though Quiggly was good, but I'm a huge Magnum PI fan.

I guess they were well received...but not many people talk about them. They're overlooked when people discuss the best movies. In fact, you're the first person I know that has said they've seen any of them. :)
I really liked Enemy mine. that was a good show.
I always felt The Perfect Storm was an underated movie.
First let me say I wholeheartedly agree with the assessment of The long Kiss Goodnight...really fun flick and cool to see Gina Davis kicking some arse.
Second, to follow in line with the Waterworld discussion....My wife and I have also always enjoyed The Postman. I am really not sure why so many people hated this movie. It wasn't great I will grant you but I have always been a sucker for post-apocalyptic movies and this one was just a different take. My wife and I inevitably sit and watch it when it is on TNT.
There are a few movies I never tire of seeing. Krull, Monster Squad, Fifth Element, Ice Pirates, Trancers : With Jack Death, Criterion Armegeddon, Long Version Of Dune, Dune Mini, Serenity, and Underworld.
Wow. Trancers. . .I vaguely remember watching that when I was a little kid. . .something about some dude slowing down time or something right? I've always remembered that movie from time to time through the years.
The Pirate Movie: From 1982 with Christopher Atkins and Kristy MacNichol...A totally goofy but endearing sendup of The Pirates of Penzance. This movie is so off-the wall and hilariously even now.
Also in the pirate style movies....My wife loves Cutthroat Island and after watching it recently I am not sure why this one was soo panned either....it wasn;t bad at all.
Wow...Kristy MacNichol...When my sister was little she had her hair cut to look just like her. I haven't heard/read that name in a long time. I don't think I ever sawthat movie.
Two movies that never get any cred that are absolutely great in my opinion are Scott Bakula's Necessary Roughness and Lord of Illusions. He had so many great roles before he joined the ST family, and these were two of his most unappreciated but best ones.
