Title: My family at 13,000 feet!
Post by: Bryancd on August 05, 2007, 04:13:34 PM
This Saturday, my wife Jamie and I along with our two dogs and a few friends hike dup to the highest point in Arizona, Mt. Humphreys at 13,000 feet. It was a 10 mile roundtrip hike with 3000 feet of elevation gain. Jamie was worried the dogs would have problems with the altitude, but they scrambled up like champs! It was a 7 hour trek and VERY challenging but we all made the summit. Here's a pic of us at the top, above the clouds!

how awesome.   Man I wish I lived closer to you guys, I would love to go on an adventure with you!

Of course I would have to get in better shape, three miles a day on a semi flat surface wouldn't have me prepared for that kind of a climb.  :)

Looks great.

Great stuff Bryan!  Love those doggies!  I miss the mountains.  Michigan is too darn flat.  Stupid glaciers!

Oh man that's so cool.  I need to go hiking at that altitude some day.  Actually, I need to plan that for next spring or summer (most likely summer).  Maybe I'll tackle Mt. Whitney here in CA.  I've only hiked up to 8,000 ft. before with a lot of gear. How much gear did you carry up there? How much gear is necessary to go to such heights?

I'm surprised the dogs had no problems--you must keep them in shape too. :-)

This is just a day hike. You park at the trail head around 9500 feet at the base of the Arizona Snow Bowl ski resort. You just need plenty of water and some snacks, the trail isn't technical, just some loose rock scrambling towards the top above the tree line at 12000 feet.
