Title: The Tall Ship Enterprise
Post by: moyer777 on June 30, 2007, 11:08:53 AM
I was out walking the other day down at Aberdeen's waterfront and saw the Lady Washington docked.  This is the tall ship they used for the Enterprise in Star Trek Generations.  It was also used in Pirates of the Caribean- you will notice which ship it is.   So, I'm grabbing my camera and heading in for some shots.  I'll post them later today.  The ship was actually built here in my hometown.  It's in town for pirate days and the 4th of July.

well I got to the dock only to find the ship was gone!  It sailed out to a nearby town called Westport.  So, Amy and I are going to go out to church in Westport tomorrow, catch the sand castle contest and take pictures of the tall ship for ya'll.  I think that will be fun!  So, see you and, you'll see us tomorrow afternoon.  I think we may even get home from that and head out to the Rain Forest (Quinault) and visit some friends.  It's fun to have a new car!  Woo Hoo!

You're the one being smart, not me.  I was asking a legitimate question, because the only POTC movie I'm familiar with is the original.  I didn't like the sequels.

calm down there, just funnin' with ya... thus the smiley face.

In my opinion, you are a tad bit too argumentative on this board for my liking.  But to each his own.

When you see the picture you will know the ship.

But if you can't wait try this http://www.historicalseaport.org (http://www.historicalseaport.org)

Spoiler......

It was the Interceptor in the first movie.

by the way I have seen the first two, but have yet to see the third pirate movie.

Hey Rick,
I can't wait to see your pics. That's an awesome history for your town to claim. I always wanted to go to a "Pirate Days Festival". Do you go often?

Is the site you posted still live? I think there's a "place holder site"  at that address instead. Maybe the URL wasn't renewed on time.  I clicked on Lady Washington and some questionable links popped up...opps.  :D

I'll just wait for your pictures. I'm sure they're better anything on that site anyway.

OK, wow, what a long day, but way worth it!

I'll stick to Tall Ship Pictures on this thread.

Ok, we drove all the way to Westport- 30 miles from our house and found the Lady Washington docked.  They happen to be letting people board her today, so we got to go on for free!  YAY!  This ship was filmed on the Movie Star Trek:Generations.  It was also the Interceptor on POTC 1.  They blew up the replica miniature for the movie.  :)  the real one is what we walked around on today.

Here we go....

From a distance you could see her masts..

Here she is.

While we were on deck a radio command came across and the deck hand scurried up the rigging.

There is actually no captains wheel on the real ship, they put a dummy one on the deck for filming in Star Trek and in POTC- it is steered by a huge rudder, that you can see here...

Here's my daughter Catherine and I just below the "poop" deck.  Don't ask me... :)  I taught her the vulcan hand symbol.

All in all it was a great half hour on the ship.  Very cool.
My friend told me that the historical seaport was moving some stuff last week and found the sign that said "Enterprise"  since my nephew works for them, you know I am down there this week to get a picture of it.... I will post it if I get it.

Thanks for looking at the snapshots, I hope you enjoyed it.

Those pics are so cool.  You just needed a Klingon to toss overboard!  Thanks for sharing.

P.S.  Rick, everytime I see pics of you I think you look like Tom Arnold.  Does anyone else ever tell you that?

Wow!!!! Totally COOOL! Did you feel like the ship was smaller than it looked in the movies? Or did it match up? By looking at the pictures it looks smaller. But again AWESOME. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, it was much smaller than I expected, I have been on it once before, but it was before Star Trek used it, so I didn't pay too much attention.    They must have used a cool lens to make it look bigger.  I thought it was funny though, the crew tells stories about how TNG cast members like Diet Coke and also installed padded seats in the cargo holds and crew quarters because they were on the ship such long hours that they were really uncomfortable.  When the camera crews left they left the padded seats which are still on the ship today.

Fun!

Moyer777, those are awesome pictures of the Lady Washington! :biggrin I recognise it as the Enterprise from Star Trek: Generations, but not as the Intercepter from Pirates of the Caribbean.  That might be because I never payed much attention to the Intercepter since the movie mostly shows what's happing on deck and not the whole ship.

What is the Lady Washington usually used for?

It does special events and entertainment type of stuff.  It is supposed to be a calling card to the City of Aberdeen as a tourist type of thing.  There isn't a lot of money in that, but the movies have paid off big time in this.  Rumor has it they called the seaport for Pirates 4.  We'll see!
