Title: Star Trek (TOS) Season 1 DVD Set Question
Post by: Captain Jean-Luc Picard on June 09, 2007, 03:13:40 PM
How come "The Cage" is a special feature on the Star Trek Season 3 set instead of the Season 1 set? :confused  How come "Where No Man Has Gone Before," the official pilot, is the third episode on the Season 1 DVD set? :confused

CJLP,

I believe the DVDs have "production" order rather than airdate order. As you know there can often be a huge difference.

As for the cage I suppose they put it as a special feature because it's not actually part of the original seroes as it was never aired until after the series was off.

Hope that answers it for you!

Right, I'm aware that the episodes are in airdate order, but... "Where No Man Has Gone Before" is not a regular episode.  It's the pilot, so naturally it should come first regardless of having been the third aired episode.  I'm not saying the series should be in production order, I'm just saying the pilot should come first.  You might as well have some Season 1 episodes mixed in with Season 2.  It's that bizzare.

Actually, "The Cage" is a part of the series thanks to "The Menagerie, Parts I & II."  It would make sense to put it with the Season 1 special features.  That way, when you buy Season 1, you can opt to watch both pilots before beginning the series.  Putting the original pilot on Season 3 just doesn't make any sense at all.  What if you don't like Season 3?  You don't get the original pilot.  LAME!

Take it up with Paramount! I didn't compile the set! The original 40 disc individual cases also puts The Cage as the last installment and not the first. Personally I don't care as long as all the episodes are there. Some people prefer to watch in airdate order and others prefer production order. I just follow the airdate order for the most part.

I prefer to watch "The Cage," "Where No Man Has Gone Before," and then proceed in whatever order the episodes are in on the DVD set.
