At the recent comic con I went to I realized it would of been much easier to get some of the celebs to say the short audio bumpers for the podcast if I had a card to hand them. So I decided to get some printed up. Pretty snazzy, and they don't cost too much to get. What do you think gang?
Those are great Rico!
Yeah, we just got 1000 glossy, front and back cards for $50!
That's a steal!
Those are Awesome... great job Rico!!!
Spill the beans.
Where'd you get them?
Mr. O
I've done over 30 transactions with these guys..

The cool part is, I design my stuff in photoshop, and then send them a 300 pixel image, they do the printing and coating, and send them to me in brilliant color. They are really nice. They had a promotion for the 1000 for $50, but it looks like for $75 you can get over 2500 of them.
Anyway, they do good work.
I will ask the gal at work which company she did the $50 1000 count job with. I think it was these guys.

Mine came from a place called Vistaprint online. Got 250 of them for $3.99

That's the same place I get my business cards done... you can get some good deals there.
Not to be Mr. Nitpicky, but none of the three groups of text quite line up on the left side.

Can we say OCD? :) Just joking.
I have a person in the office that is so funny that way. It's got to be dead on!
Hey Rico- That's a great deal on those!

That was somewhat intentional. And actually they all do line up, except for my name.
Yeah, it's a sickness. :)
Seriously, if you do that sort of stuff for a living, it just jumps out at you. In my office, only me and the graphic designer see that stuff.
Still, sometimes normal people's brains process that something is "off" but can't quite tell why. That's why it matters.
Rico, even excluding the name, they don't line up, to my eye. I'd say that, if you're going to indent the name, do it a little more, so it's obviously not in-line.
What's done is done. And they are my cards. I like them.
I understand where you are coming from, however I tend to not like things all in neat little packages. Life is really not like that. Now of course, I may hand a card to someone and they may say --- geez, look at that, it's not all perfectly lined up. And that may or may not bug them.
I've worked many years and have a stack of cards in my office about 6 inches high - all from different people, from different companies, from all over the world. The ones I remember are the ones a bit different from the rest.
I probably would have designed the cards quite differently but the main thing is that they are available for you to use and get the message across. Any chance I could get about 25 of them to give out around here when I run into sci-fi buffs or to some of my friends?

I'm with you Rico... different is always best.
Agreed, different stands out, and that's often what you want for a business card.
And with a card for a Trek podcast, it's not like you have to worry about being business-like.
Next time you design something like this, you should go crazy with it (more unconventional layout, less formal font).
You could even have a design competition here on the board, where people submit designs. (Instead of just criticizing other people's work!)

I like the contest idea a lot!
To be fair though Rico did "ask" for opinions. Whether positive or negative should not matter. WHat matters is that Rico is satisfied with them!

I will have to check out the links you have for your Business cards as I am looking to get some made for a website I am involved with. I will also make note of Dan's suggestions when I design the cards. Your cards look pretty cool Rico, and a good idea. I know a few of the guys in my collecting club have some, and is a good idea to hand out at cons and toys shows.
