Title: I Am Legend
Post by: Geekyfanboy on June 08, 2007, 11:32:05 AM
I have been hearing some buzz about this movie but really didn't know much about it other then Will Smith was going to be in it. Well they just released the trailer and wow.. looks like a very tense movie.  I would watch the trailer first then read the synopsis below.

http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/iamlegend/

Robert Neville (Will Smith) is a brilliant scientist, but even he could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable…and manmade. Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City…and maybe the world. But he is not alone. He is surrounded by “the  of the plague who have mutated into carnivorous beings who can only exist in the dark and who will devour or infect anyone or anything in their path. For three years, Neville has spent his days scavenging for food and supplies and faithfully sending out radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. All the while, the Infected lurk in the shadows, watching Neville’s every move, waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Perhaps mankind’s last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood. But his blood is also what The Infected hunt, and Neville knows he is outnumbered and quickly running out of time.

Great Trailer.  I'm going to watch it again.

It reminds me of The Omega Man.  Remember that one?  With Charlton Heston?  That was a creepy cool movie.

I hope it is rated decent.

Both these movies are based on the SF book called "I am Legend" by Richard Matheson.  This new trailer looks very cool.  Always loved the Heston version and this looks to be a nice update on the idea.

Here's a link to the book they are based on:

I found a free movie download of The last man on Earth with Vincent Price.  I'm watching it right now, and it is awesome!

We had a security guard at work that would sometimes wear her hair in a bit of an afro. She had very gray hair and I joked with people on the way into work that she scared me as one of the infected people in The Omega Man...

Lol the said part is nobody new what movie I was talking about..... sigh

Speaking of last survivor movies does anyone recall a move that involved a black man (I thought it was Sidney Poitier  but it must be someone else) who survives a nuclear holocaust and he believe he is the lone survivor and then one day he discovers a white woman survivor and falls in love with her. They are humanities last hope of survival and then another survivor arrives who happens to be a white man and thinks the white woman should be his. Those are the rough details but I can't remember the name of the film. It's one of those haunting films you remember though.

Also, how about the Twilight Zone episode of Burgess Meredith (Time Enough at Last) as the Librarian who survives the bomb and is the sole survivor and now has time to read all the books he wants and nobody can stop him. Sadly his glasses break and he's helpless!   :'( Very tragic and creepy story!

Personally, I am looking forward to it. I was a fan of Will Smith in I,Robot and in the MIB movies, so I think he will do a good job here. I actually have never seen a zombie movie, so I dont know what to expect. I never was a fan of horror, but this doesnt really seem to be too heavy on the horror, but I hope that it does scare me in parts. Gosh I am wuss.

It's good that a lot of movies are comming out that look really good.  I am Legend, Beowulf, The Mist, National Treasure 2, I'll be spending more time at the theater this year than I planned on.

When ROTS came out, that was the only movie I went to the whole year only because it was the only one that looked any good to me.

Legend Gives 6-minutes to Dark Knight

Written by: Michael Hickerson (SoSF Staff Journalist)

Still wondering if you should spend the extra money to see "I Am Legend" on the IMAX screen?

Warner Brothers is offering an incentive beyond a sixty-foot tall Will Smith. Fans who check out the new adaptation of Richard Matheson's classic story on the IMAX screen will get another bonus–a preview of the first six minutes of next year's "Dark Knight."

"Dark Knight" is the highly-anticipated follow-up to the successful "Batman Begins" and will feature Batman taking on his most famous nemesis, the Joker.

The footage, which was previewed Tuesday evening at invitation-only event at Los Angeles' Universal City's IMAX theater, is one of five sequences specially filmed to take advantage of IMAX technology. According to reports in the Los Angeles Times, the footage features a much-anticipated look at Heath Ledger's take on the Joker.

"Heath's Joker is like none we've seen before, but it's also very true to the iconography of this character," director Christopher Nolan said. "His work is very compelling, and it's not easy to describe what Heath has accomplished with it . . . we don't know much about the Joker's past. He is more interesting in the present, I think . . . he's relentless, he tears through the movie like the shark in 'Jaws.' "

According to reports, "Dark Knight" will differ from Tim Burton's original "Batman" in that we'll see the Joker arrive on the scene as a full-time villain with a mysterious background. The film will not spend time setting up and creating the Joker character, unlike Burton's take in the late 80s.

Fans can get a look at this footage starting Friday when "I Am Legend" opens in theaters.

Well, my two sons and I went to see this movie today.  We all really liked it quite a bit.  Up front, this is NOT a zombie movie for those that might think that.  It's really mainly about one man dealing with being the last human still around after something terrible happens.  Will Smith does an amazing job since a great deal of the movie is just him and his dog Sam.  If you want to go see an interesting and different kind of movie - go see this.  Keep in mind it is rated "R" and not for kids that are young.  High schoolers and up should be fine.  So go check it out.

I did a lot of research on this movie and what I found was that it is rated PG-13, and the screen review site that I go to had it at a very minimum of swearing and sexual content.  It mainly said it was very scary and intense.

So, for me, my boys and I want to see it, but the ladies in the household don't.

So, this week sometime I'm going.  Popcorn and the end of the world baby!  woo hoo.

It was really hardly even a PG13 movie- I think I recount maybe one or two swear words- nothing you don't hear at a football game. The only reason it got that rating was because it was suspenseful and intense.

As for me, loved the movie, Will Smith is the man. Everyone should go spend your money and see this one in theaters because at home you won't get the same effect.

There is a web site out there that goes through movies with a fine tooth comb if you want to know EXACTILY what is in the movie to decide if your kids should see it.  I normally don't even look at it because it spoils it for me.  I just look at it after to see what they said about it.  Or I will read their reviews of things they would hate like American Pie, Jackass, and Hostel 2.  It's kind of funny to see how much they hated it!

on TV this morning I saw a profile on Will Smith's career from his early rapper "Fresh Prince" days to his movie rolls in Independence day, Enemy of the State and Ali. This afternoon I saw "I Am Legend", this has to be his best performance yet. This movie blows "The Omega Man" out of the water.
I've read two similar books, Adrift in a Bone-yard by Robert Lewis Taylor and The Earth Abides by George Stewart. Both are last man on earth stories.

Yeah I goofed, it is rated PG-13.  Could of sworn it was an "R."  I still think it isn't for young kids at all.  Not only will it scare them, I don't think they can appreciate the message of the movie.

Glad you liked it too Dave.  I agree.  Will Smith was perfect in it.

I went for the "Halloween" thrills and chills but, I Am Legend - a Christmas movie?

space_invader64's link to the review spelled out all the symbolisms. Gives you something to think about this season...and "A good film sticks with you for a while"

I just got back from I am Legend.

It was very emotional from start to finish.  Will Smith did an amazing job, and the special effects were great.  All in all, not what I expected, but very well done.

The ladies in the household would not have enjoyed it.  Us guys liked it.

Yikes!

I know what you mean. . .I went with bunch of friends to watch it and a couple of the girls got scared silly. One of them even walked out of the theater. She along with one of my other friends called it a "zombie movie" but I quickly replied telling them that it was not a zombie movie. It was a movie about the last human alive surviving with his dog while trying to find a cure for a horrible disease.

And Will Smith was great.

I went this evening, it definitely sent some chills down me a bit, and had me a bit on edge. I think I was freaked out a bit more by waiting for something to happen, then when something actually did. I am not much for scary things, but overall I enjoyed this movie. I thought Will Smith did a great job, and seems to get stronger and stronger as an actor.

I finally saw this last week.  I thought it was OK; I enjoyed watching it.  It had quite a few moments that made me jump a bit (of course, the 2 cups of coffee I had before the film might have contributed to the jumpiness a little).  I think Smith did a pretty good job playing crazy, esp. right before he steps into the mutant's trap.

The plot-holes bothered me a little bit, though.  For example; why is it that humans, dogs, and rats get mutated by the virus, but not birds, lions, or deer?

Maybe the reason was it was due to the cancer they were trying to cure.  But who knows.
