Duchovny Green For Hulk 2?
Marvel vice chairman Peter Cuneo told AOL's Motley Fool Radio Team that The X-Files' former star David Duchovny is under consideration to take over the title role in a straight-to-video sequel to Ang Lee's 2003 Hulk movie, according to a report on the ContactMusic.com Web site.
Duchovny would reportedly take over from Australian actor Eric Bana, who supposedly pulled out of the sequel project when he learned it would be releasd on DVD.
"Duchovny's name has been bought up several times," Cuneo reportedly said. "He's quite the fan, too."
Hulk, based on the Marvel Comics franchise, was a critical disappointment, but did well enough to warrant a sequel. "The Hulk did $250 million worldwide box office, which is a huge box office, and as you may recall, we had tremendous success with our toy line, which was a complete sell-out, over $100 million worldwide," Cuneo said.
Well I wasn't a fan of the first one... but I like Duchovny.
Boy, that's a weird bit of casting. The first film wasn't that great but I wish someone would go back and do HULK right. Personally I'd rather see David D. do another "X-Files" film. I really loved that series and miss it.
I'm with you Rico.. would love to see more of the X-Files.
Indeed. Another X-files movie would rock. I still need to see how some things end up.
David as Hulk? He's a good actor, I just hope the movie doesn't suck.
Incredible Hulk Due June '08
Marvel Studios and Universal Pictures announced a June 27, 2008, release date for The Incredible Hulk, sequel to 2003's Hulk. The announcement was made Nov. 6 by Michael Helfant, president and chief operating officer of Marvel Studios, and Kevin Feige, Marvel's president of production.
Louis Leterrier (Transporter 2, Unleashed) will direct The Incredible Hulk, which will return to the roots of the long-running comic series. Zak Penn, who previously collaborated with Marvel on X2 and this summer's X-Men: The Last Stand, is writing the script. The project is being produced by Avi Arad, Feige and Gale Anne Hurd and will be executive-produced by Michael Helfant, David Womark and Arad. Marvel Studios is currently casting the project.
The Incredible Hulk is being independently produced by Marvel Studios through its $525 million, non-recourse film finance facility and will be distributed domestically and in several international territories by Universal Pictures. Universal is owned by NBC Universal, which also owns SCIFI.COM.
Is Eric Bana going to reprise the role of the Hulk/Bruce Banner?
Norton Goes Green In Hulk
Edward Norton (The Illusionist) has been set by Marvel Studios to play Bruce Banner in The Incredible Hulk, a role formerly played by Eric Bana, Variety reported.
The Louis Leterrier-directed drama will be distributed by Universal Pictures, with an opening set for June 13, 2008. Universal is owned by NBC Universal, which also owns SCIFI.COM.
The Incredible Hulk will shoot this summer in Toronto.
The Incredible Hulk, following on Ang Lee's disappointing Hulk, aims to be less self-serious and more in line with the comic series and TV show. Leterrier directed the action-filled Transporter 2 and Unleashed.
The new movie begins with Banner on the run, trying to avoid capture long enough to cure the condition that turns him into a misunderstood green menace.
The script for The Incredible Hulk was written by Zak Penn, who had a hand in crafting two X-Men films, Fantastic Four and Elektra for Marvel.
Not sure what I think about this. I thought Eric Bana did a good job in the first one. While the movie could of been better, I thought Bana was one of the good parts. I'm wondering if any of the original cast will be back at all for number 2?
That is good news that they are making a second Hulk film. I am not sure about this whole recasting of Hulk, on one hand I liked Eric Bana, but on the other hand, if they are doing a bit of a reset on the movie, then maybe a new cast is the best. I remember this movie as one that really disappointed me a lot, and up to that point, I had enjoyed all the comic book movies. I know Ang Lee was going for a different approach, it just did not really resonate with me.
The New HULK Movie will have a GREY Hulk???
At the Spiderman 3 junket earlier today Avi Arad was asked some questions about the new Hulk movie and he basically let it slip that the new Hulk will be GREY, not green.
Frosty: With the Hulk coming next year you have to be far along with the script and I’m curious what can you tell us about the story and are you going to incorporate any of the CGI that you developed for the first film or the effects?
Avi: None. No. It's a new Hulk, new direction, new size, new color, new attitude. Anything that was done before is not in this movie. It's a very different kind of Hulk. It's more of a love story; it's more of a heroic Hulk. It's a kind of Hulk we loved in the show, so it's kind of more influenced by the show than anything else. It's very human, very touching, and huge action. Louis Leterrier has a unique filming style that will be great here and it’s going to be spectacular.
The Hulk Will Definitely be Green
Source: Advanced Dark
April 23, 2007
Empire Online just confirmed what we were thinking, that the Hulk will just be a different shade of green and not a completely different color, such as gray. Producer Avi Arad cleared up his comments from Friday:
"It was a joke!" laughs Arad, in town to talk up Spider-Man 3, which opens on May 4. "Here's what it was. There were 30 people around a table, and they said 'is there going to be a grey Hulk?' And I was thinking about it and I said, 'who knows?' It was one of those moments. I had just got back from Japan and I was trying to talk about Spider-Man and this guy was pushing me on The Hulk so I thought I'll be coy. I don't know what colour it is, and all of a sudden it's headline news."
But Arad did mention a new colour â€" so will the eponymous star of Louis Letterier's movie, due out in 2008, still be green? Or orange? Or pink with yellow stripes?
"It's a different shade of green," confirms Arad. "But the colour is not like the old Hulk. And no, there's no grey Hulk."
Arad goes on to mention that we'll learn who is playing Bettie in a matter of days.
Tyler Is Ross In New Hulk
Liv Tyler will star opposite Edward Norton in Marvel Studios' The Incredible Hulk, signing on to play Betty Ross, the longtime love interest of Dr. Bruce Banner/the Hulk, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Louis Leterrier is directing the movie, which is being produced by Avi Arad, Gale Anne Hurd and Kevin Feige.
Ross, a classic Hulk character from the comic book's beginning in 1962, is Banner's fellow scientist and an ally in his quest to rid him of his lurking monster deep inside. The movie will unfold with Ross estranged from Banner (Norton), but with the pursuit of the Hulk heating up and Banner on the run trying to cure his condition, Ross finds herself swept back into his life.
Jennifer Connelly played the character in the 2003 movie Hulk, directed by Ang Lee.
Wow, big stars Ed Norton and Liv Tyler are quite a change from the Duchovny (where are they now type 90's TV star) direct to video idea. Looking forward to this now!
Tim Roth has signed on to star as the Hulk’s nemesis The Abomination in the upcoming feature sequel. Roth will play Emile Blonsky/Abomination in the movie, a vicious mercenary who is exposed to gamma rays and becomes a creature even stronger than the Hulk.
“Incredible Hulk†screenwriter Zak Penn recently told the press, “The villain will not be called the Abomination out loud in the film because it’s a silly, silly name. It’s so hard to work in. ‘Hey, what should we call that guy?’ ‘He’s an abomination!’â€
“The Incredible Hulk†will start shooting next month in Toronto for a June 13, 2008 release.
INCREDIBLE HULK
According to the Hollywood Reporter, actor William Hurt has joined the cast as General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross. Hurt joins two-time Oscar nominee Edward Norton, who is playing Banner, Liv Tyler as Betty and Tim Roth as villain Emil Blonsky/the Abomination. The film is working from a Zak Penn script for Universal Pictures, and starts shooting this summer in Toronto.
I'm getting more hopeful about this film as it goes along. I wasn't overly fond of then first one but I'd welcome another try at the big guy. He was always one of my favorite comics.
Kevin
Here's the official synopsis for the action-thriller:
"The Incredible Hulk" kicks off an all-new, explosive and action-packed epic of one of the most popular superheroes of all time. In this new beginning, scientist Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) desperately hunts for a cure to the gamma radiation that poisoned his cells and unleashes the unbridled force of rage within him: The Hulk.
Living in the shadows--cut off from a life he knew and the woman he loves, Betty Ross (Liv Tyler)--Banner struggles to avoid the obsessive pursuit of his nemesis, General Thunderbolt Ross (William Hurt), and the military machinery that seeks to capture him and brutally exploit his power.
As all three grapple with the secrets that led to The Hulk's creation, they are confronted with a monstrous new adversary known as The Abomination (Tim Roth), whose destructive strength exceeds even The Hulk's own. And on June 13, 2008, one scientist must make an agonizing final choice: accept a peaceful life as Bruce Banner or find heroism in the creature he holds inside--"The Incredible Hulk."

Is The Incredible Hulk doomed to box-office failure?
When the new trailer for The Incredible Hulk debuted on-line several weeks ago, the fan reaction was overwhelmingly mixed. Scenes featuring Edward Norton, Liv Tyler and other members of the re-cast and re-imagining entry into a potential Hulk franchise drew positive response while scenes with the newly created CGI Hulk and his nemesis the Abomination drew criticisms of not being realistic enough. Entertainment Weekly called the new CGI Hulk and Abomination "totally fake-looking."
Add in reports of creative in-fighting on the set and in post-production (it's been reported that star Edward Norton would like do his own cut of the film) and you've got a recipe for what could be a second box-office disaster for the green-skinned goliath.
Since it's inception, the latest installment for the Hulk has been referred to a "re-do" for the franchise. The first Hulk film, directed by Ang Lee, reportedly cost $150 million to make and only took in $132 million domestically. According to the New York Times, the new Hulk film will feature more action, a stronger love-story to draw female audiences and the Hulk won't be mute in this installment. Lee's film feature a Hulk that grew to three different sizes based on his irritation. That has been dropped from the new movie as well as the emphasis on the loser-aspect of the Hulk's alter ego Bruce Banner. In addition, the green-skinned goliath will be portrayed as a more a hero.
But expectations for this film at the box-office are high. Marvel and distribution partner Universal need The Incredible Hulk to be a hit. Marvel cites an increased buzz for Hulk and an increase in Hulk comic book sales as indications this one could be the type of hit that's needed to kick start the franchise.
"We are really proud about how the new film came out," said David Maisel, chairman of Marvel Studios. "The 2003 movie was like test-driving a car. We were able to see what people liked and did not."
But others aren't as optimistic.
"There are people who clearly don't think it looks good and are expecting a bomb," said Doug Creutz, an entertainment analyst at Cowen & Company.
Even the man who created the Hulk, Stan Lee seems to be less than enthusiastic about the movie's chances at the box-office.
"My prediction is that it will be more popular than the last one," he said. His Iron Man prediction? "Enormous hit," he said.
But Universal is standing behind the product and dismisses any gloom and doom notions.
"I would caution anybody against betting against it," said Adam Fogelson, Universal's president for marketing and distribution.
Fogelson said the trailer has generated more buzz on-line than any trailer in Universal's history. He also cited a studio by Fandango that has the Edward Norton take on Bruce Banner and the Hulk as the fourth most anticipated new character portrayal for the upcoming blockbuster season and that the movie is the eighth most anticipated summer blockbuster by respondents to the poll. And the movie plans to take advantage of the overwhelmingly positive buzz for Iron Man by cross-promotion. A new Hulk trailer will debut when Iron Man hits theater and Robert Downey, Jr will cameo in the new Hulk movie as Iron Man.
Whatever the Hulk's fate on the big-screen, we'll have to wait and see what happens when The Incredible Hulk opens in theaters on July 13.
So Ironman is going to cameo in The Incredible Hulk? Very interesting. I like the look of the new movie. And how "realistic" looking should a giant, green, gamma radiated behemoth look anyway? People need to lighten up.
Norton Responds to Hulk Rumors
In recent weeks, rumors have abounded that Incredible Hulk star Edward Norton was unhappy with the final cut of the upcoming potential summer blockbuster.
Last week, the New York Times reported on the potential for the second Hulk movie to collapse under the pressure being placed on it to invigorate a franchise that stumbled a bit out of the gate. Now, Entertainment Weekly has a look at things behind the scenes of the next installment in the Hulk franchise.
EW spoke to director Louis Leterrier who said he and Norton hit it off from the first day on set and that there were no issues with Marvel during the shoot. After the shoot was over, Letterier and Norton wanted a longer (135 minute) more cerebral cut of the film while Marvel opted for a shorter (120 minute) more action-driven cut. Marvel won the argument but news got out that there was a dispute between the two parties.
Now Norton (who wants the film to be a hit) has come out and issued a statement saying that the Marvel cut, while not what he wanted, will be a better commercial success than his.
"Every good movie gets forged through collaboration, and different ideas among people who are all committed and respect the validity of each other's opinions is the heart of filmmaking," said Norton. "Regrettably, our healthy process, which is and should be a private matter, was misrepresented publicly as a 'dispute,' seized on by people looking for a good story, and has been distorted to such a degree that it risks distracting from the film itself, which Marvel, Universal and I refuse to let happen. "
"It has always been my firm conviction that films should speak for themselves..." he added. "Our focus has always been to deliver the Hulk that people have been waiting for and keep the worldwide love affair with the big green guy going strong."
Movie-goers will get to decide if Marvel made the right call when The Incredible Hulk opens in theaters in June. And with two cuts of the film, it's probably a good bet we'll get both on DVD in the future.
Have you guys seen the poster? Looks nice!
Whoa....that is freakin cool!
As far as the "dispute"...In this day and age arguments over things like that should get fewer and farther between. With DVD technology where it is now, there are plenty of ways to add deleted scenes into a movie or even have two differents cuts of the same movie. So moviemakers should begin to breathe easier I think and feel confident that their preferred cut will be seen one way or another.
Ed Norton is one of my most favorite actors. He has had so many great roles: Primal Fear, Rounders, Fight Club, Red Dragon, The Illusionist...some really fantastic recent films. And did anyone see the Woody Allen musical Everyone Says I Love You? Ed Norton can sing! I know he will be a great Bruce Banner...great casting, can't wait for this.
Finding the right Banner was key to Incredible Hulk
Finding the right actor to play the role of Bruce Banner was essential to getting The Incredible Hulk off the ground says the film's producer Gale Anne Hurd.
In a recent interview with SciFi Wire, Hurd said that casting of Edward Norton as the Hulk's alter-ego was a key element in getting the franchise reboot to the silver screen.
"We didn't have to go back and do an origin story," Hurd said. "We had the opportunity to continue and do a story where Bruce Banner is already the Hulk. So we asked, 'Who is Bruce Banner?'"
Hurd said that the actor who best captured the essential "duality" of Bruce Banner was Norton.
"He plays duality better than anyone out there today," she said. "From Primal Fear to Fight Club, he kind of defines that duality. So he's the quintessential Bruce Banner."
With a perfect Banner in place, all the film needed was to find the right threat to take on the Hulk. In this case, it was the Abomination, though the character won't be referred to by that name in the upcoming film.
"One thing that was important was to have a villain who was not only equal to the Hulk, but who actually makes Hulk an underdog," Hurd said. "We did that with Abomination. He's bigger, he's stronger, he's mean!"
Hurd went on to say that the new Hulk movie is a stepping stone toward a potential Avengers movie.
"It's nice to be able to let things evolve, and we set things up with this film," Hurd said. "We have Tim Blake Nelson playing Dr. Samuel Sterns, and anyone who is a fan of the comic books knows that Samuel Sterns turns into the Leader, so there is an opportunity to explore that. It's in this film, but for people who aren't aware of that, it's not confusing."
Audiences will decide if the new combination of the right actor with the right villian pays off when The Incredible Hulk opens in theaters June 16.
New trailer. Looking very good. Story seems well done too.

Captain America Cut from Hulk Premiere
Posted by Sam on Saturday, 14 Jun 2008
We told you earlier in the week in one of our news briefs that "The Incredible Hulk" director Louis Letterier promised a cameo appearance by none other than Captain America in the film. Well, consider it one of those obscure Hollywood promises because if you go and see the movie this weekend, you'll have to look real hard to find the good Captain because he is no where to be found.
Marvel Studios opted to remove about 70 minutes out of the film's theatrical release which included dark segments revealing Bruce Banner's decision to off himself because he can't deal with his Hulk outbreaks. He meets up with Captain America way up north in the Arctic Circle where Banner is convinced by the Captain to find a way to deal with his dual persona.
Since the studio is shooting to reach as wide a range of age groups as possible they felt these scenes were far to dark and moody and didn't really add anything to the overall production value of the film, so they were cut from the theatrical version. Letterier and Marvel do promise that they will be included in the DVD release. Of course, all we can hope is this isn't just another Hollywood promise.
Now, let's think about this for just a minute. It's alright for a parent to show a frightening green monster of a man rip things (and people) from limb to limb, but it's not proper to see a man deal with some real internal emotional turmoil and get positive feedback from a trusted friend that puts him back on the path of living. Boy, talk about screwed-up priorities. Why doesn't Hollywood execs just tell the truth for a change. Watching those quiet private moments doesn't sell tickets to the kiddies, but watching him turn into a monster and tear the hell out of a city, well — that's definitely a no brainer for ticket sales....isn't it? They've had it right all along......."That's Entertainment!"
Did anyone see this yet? I just went last night and boy I loved it! Amazing fight sequences with the Hulk and the Abomination, some of the most realistic CGI I've seen in any movie since the new Star Wars flicks. Ed Norton was awesome. I can't believe they cut more than an hour out of this movie...this is the first DVD I can remember being so excited for, I really hope they include the excised footage in some kind of special edition. Anyone that used to watch the TV series with Bill Bixby back in the day, like me, is going to absolutely love all the homages to that show in this movie. When they played the theme song from the TV show in the movie I felt like standing up and cheering, and they placed it in so well to the tone of the film it felt ike a perfect fit. I used to watch that series religiously when I was a kid, with my twelve inch Hulk action figure and all his poor victims surrounding me, and I'll admit that during most of the show I paid more attention to my action figures adventures than I did the plot of the series, at least until :15 and :45 into each show (you could have set your watch by it) when Banner Hulked out. Great fun, check this movie out. Can't wait for the follow ups in the next few years with Thor, Cap, Iron Man 2, and the Avengers.
Yep - I talked about it on the podcast last week too. I thought there was another thread going with some of our reviews and thoughts already. I enjoyed it as well. The action was good, story was fine and it was a fun time at the movies. "Hulk smash!"
Oh yeah.. really enjoyed this version of the Hulk.. like you Joby when I heard the music from the TV series I got chills as I too was an avid watcher of that series. The CG, the action, the entire movie was well done. I heard that 70 minutes of footage was cut and will be put back into the special edition DVD...

Uh oh, I've been outed...I am still about a month behind in listening to your casts Ric...Didn't help that my old laptop crashed and I had no access to podcasts for a couple weeks. I need to cut out some of the fat in my podcast schedule.
Everyone,
As with most great SciFi the quality for us adults is in the "human story". As for kids it's colors and fast movement. Though the scene mentioned below was not included, in my option, best decision was made for the largest audience which is, yes, a business decision.
As for this adult the scene in this theatrical version that stays with me is the amazing one in the cave in the rain with the Hulk and Liv Tyler as she tries to calm and reassure this poor guy in this monster's body. Very powerful and, I think, shows Stan Lee's vision.
Finally it's great that we live in a time when lost or removed scenes in a movie will be seen in the DVD version, which if I'm not sounding too much the cynic this whole "disagreement" thing was another well played business decision as we all will buy that DVD now won't we?
Andrew and I went finally to see the Incredible Hulk. It was a fantastic film. The whole thing was great from start to finish. The time flew by us as we were on the edge of our seat. It was great to see Lou F and Stan Lee, the cameo from Stark was cool too. Great Movie! Amazing effects and good acting.

Boo. After hearing about the 90 minutes of cut footage from the film all we get is an alternate opening and some documentaries? I smell re-release of a better edition to tie in whenever Hulk 3 hits the theaters. I'm waiting.
With the upcoming "The Incredible Hulk" DVDs, there are 13 minutes of cut scenes on the standard DVD, 29 minutes on 3-disc special edition, and 44 minutes on the Blu-ray version. Director Louis Leterrier admits that he cut 70 minutes out of the film in total.
