I don't play this game anymore, but it will always be my favorite game of all time. Anyone that played this game starting after the combat upgrade, I can understand why you would hate it... but the game in its classic form was really an amazing experience. If anyone who played it, and remembers the "good old days," there is the site swgemu.com. There is a group that found a loophole, and is rebuilding the old game and Sony really can't stop them. Check it out if you used to play, or are interested in an old sci-fi MMO (instead of all this fantasy stuff). Also, if anyone was on Scylla, feel free to message me-> I was Klauth.
I tried for a couple months when it first came out but just couldn't get into very much. A lot more grinding and it just didn't feel very Star Wars like. I know a lof of changes have been made in it since it came out. I might try it again, someday.
I can see how you would say it feels like a grind, but it was a cool community and the economy really worked much better than a "loot to vendor/AH" scheme. I also liked the wars between guilds and factions though, there were some epic battles. Duels/faction fights in WoW are so short >_<

Ever listen to the SWG Podcast with Yivvits and Mr. Bubble? I don't play Star Wars Galaxies, I just listen to them because they're funny. I actually started to listen because I was interested in playing and wanted to get some feedback from other players to see what it was like. I wrote to them and they both said it wasn't as fun after the combat upgrade and that they would recommend that I wait and see how everything turned out. That was almost two years ago and so far, they still seem to think its too buggy. They also have a problem with all the PVP players....but apparently they're creating servers where people can go to PVP.
They mentioned the folks you referred to, who are trying to bring back the game before the "upgrade". They aren't as hopeful that these folks will actually pull it off.
Me? I'm waiting for Star Trek Online and hoping they're watching what's going on with SWG and learning from the mistakes Sony has made. I would hate to see Perpetual mess up a game with great potential like Sony did.
Maybe one day soon they'll scrap SWG and create a new Star Wars MMO with some other company. Sony seems to have dropped the ball.
I did want to play back in the day...but I'm not sure I want to pay every month for a broken game loaded with people who just want to fight my character every time I enter the game.
I played SWG from launch for about a year.
It was the first MMO I played and by time I quit I was really tired of it. It just never got the star wars feeling enough for me.
I never played the upgrade but I have never heard anything but really bad things about it.
I can't wait for STO!!!
