I was fortunate enough to be able to attend an Advance screening of Spiderman 3 tonight. The theatre was really packed (I guess since tickets were free). I will not really say very much for now, but I felt that Venom looked Fantastic. Will be going again this weekend with my wife, so looking forward to another viewing of it. Looking forward to hearing what everyone else thought when they see it.
I saw the midnight show last night, and I have to say I liked the movie. It will not disappoint most of the fans here, I'm sure, so don't worry about getting your ten bucks worth. I thought some parts were pretty slow, though, and even with all the plot and characters they jammed in the movie would probably have benefitted from losing about 20 minutes or so. I couldn't sit through it again in the theater though, sp no repeat viewings for me until DVD or cable TV. I can't remember the last movie I paid to see more than once in the theater, I think it might have been ST Nemesis!
I just got back from seeing SP3.
I liked it better than the other two. It had much more humor, great action, fun music and AMAZING special effects and characters.
Two thumbs up. I laughed a lot and the time just (pardon the pun) flew by.
Sand man is incredible. Venom is spectacular.
Great flick for a third movie.
Oh, and watch for the cameo with Stan Lee. Awesome.
All in all the movie was paced well, and I didn't think it was too slow, just about the time I started getting ancy for action, it kicked right back up.
This is a great movie.
Rick M.
Going to see it in iMax tonight - here's hoping.
I won't be seeing it till Sunday :(
I felt it was pretty good as well, though it did not really leave me all pumped up like the previous two did. I felt at times it dragged a bit, and to be honest, seemed like it took a bit to get going. I would have liked if they would have focussed more Harry Osbourne and Peter Parker, I just felt there was not enough of that, and considering the previous two movies were a bit of a lead in for that. The Scenes with the New Goblin and Spiderman were probably my Favorites for Action. To be honest, I felt they could have left the Sandman out of the Movie, The Visuals on him were cool, but I felt maybe to many Villans. I really liked Venom , and wished more of him and Topher Grace. Spiderman/Peter Parker had a lot of relationships to deal with in this movie, and probably why at times parts seemed to drag a bit. But all and All a good Movie
Just got back from the show. The Amazing Spiderman was in full display. Will there be a 4th movie ? Hard to say -- I'm ok with these 3
A good start to the summer season. They previewed Bourne, FF and Potter. I think there are 15 movies I would like to see. With popcorn and drink -- $180-$240. If only there were an Auction House where I could pick up a few gold. :)
Spoilers for SURE.
In short:
A bit long and draggy for my taste. Cut 20 min of the long shots and we're good.
The scene near the end with Aunt May and Parker where we had a long shot of Parker in focus on May out of it was HORRIBLE directing. Aunt May had some very very important dialogue and the entire time she was a big blur. Sorry Sam but I like to see actors when they talk; I don't care that our focus was "supposed" to be on Parker.
Too many Villains? Yeah, maybe. I think they needed the Sandman though to provide another layer of "Spiderman is *dark* now". With the angle that they needed to establish that, they needed the Sandman, but once we had the "sewer scene" they could have left him out of the rest of the movie.
More Harry and Parker, would have been nice.
They also should have brought back the sketches for the recap at the start of the movie like they did in S2. The video and the photo images didn't do it for me as much.

I saw it last night and really enjoyed it. I like how Sam Raimi builds up the story and characters and mixes quiet moments with the action. I thought all the actors did a good job as usual. The action and effects were amazing. I still think Tobey is great as Peter and Spidey. Loved when he became "bad-boy" Peter in black. Cool stuff. As far as the number of villains, yeah that maybe was a bit too much. Could of done without Sandman maybe, but he was cool to see in action.
While I liked it a lot and will see it again, here's probably my biggest trouble - Flint "Sandman" killing Uncle Ben. This change was not needed. Plus, it really changes Peter's guilt over letting the burglar go when he could of stopped him. Since they are now saying he wasn't the one that really pulled the trigger it really changes things. Although I'm sure Peter still feels responsible. Anyway, it wasn't needed for the movie.
Overall, it's not my favorite of the Spider-Man movies, but it's still a great time at the movies and definitely worth seeing. I think it slightly was a victim of, this is the third movie - we need to make it bigger, etc. But, I still think they did well with it. I'd love to see them pull back some and do number 4 with just one bad guy, and a smart type bad guy like Doc Ock was. We'll see.
But - everyone should check it out if you liked 1 & 2. You will enjoy this movie! :)
I saw it this morning with my son and daughter, and I really liked it. I agree that it was both a bit manic at times, and slow at times, but I really enjoyed it as a whole.
Sandman was always one of my favorite villians for spidey. I was really worried ahead of time, because some of my favorite panes where when Sandman would form a giant hand, or hammer or something, and I didn't know how good that was gonna look. Well :jawdrop :jawdrop OMG the Sandman stuff was amazing! Hayden Church looks more like Sandman then I think any other villian has so far in any of the movies. I really felt I got my monies worth on this movie.
I was also worried about Topher Grace as Eddie Brock/Venom, but it worked out better then I thought. The Venom special effects were also amazing!
I do agree with you on one thing though Rico. The change of who killed Uncle Ben was totally uneeded.
Too many villians?? Come on I am waiting for the Revenge of the Sinister Six!!!!! Whoot!!! :metallica: :metallica:
Duffster
well i saw it, I love the bad boy Parker as well! and here comes the spoilers!
Well Sandman's story was sad. I thought Venom was just a goooo that just used the hosts body, I never knew that the host had most power! I think Mary Jane needs to loosen up, so what if Peter kissed his lab partner! Well thats all i need to say :)
Loved it!!! Loved it!!! Loved it!!!!
it wasn't perfect.. but no movie is. It was entertaining from beginning to middle to end.
I think it was just like the first and second movie.. no better, no worse. The SFX were awesome and the story was good.
I was entertained though out and when it was over I felt it was a great movie experience.
Can't wait to see it again.
so what is your fav part?
One of my favorite parts had to be the end battle. Spiderman Vs Venom and Harry Vs Sandman and Mary Jane in Peril. How about you DM?
Well I like....Well at the end (like you) just not any part that MJ was screaming! it was SO annoying! Reminded me of King kong (how whats her face screamed every other second!!!) I also like the Jazz part woooooo!
Yes, the last battle was very good. My kids and I really enjoyed that part.
Man.. all I can say is my breath was lost when... oh wait SPOILERS. All I will say is "brick"
phew.
During the screening I saw, people actually left the theater before the movie was over. Granted, MJ was singing again, and it was three in the morning, but you have to know there are some problems with the flick if people don't feel like staying till the credits roll.

One of my students walked out too.
I think that they're starting to suffer from the King Kong Syndrome. They're too big and too popular and too assured that they'll sell tickets to worry about pacing and audiences and all that stuff.
There was a video game called The Movies that would let you make little films and upload them to a website. The website had a top ten list based on ratings but mostly based on number of views. So a top rated movie wasn't top rated becuase people liked it. It was top rated because people *watched it* and trust me some real CRAP was top rated.
I think that the summer blockbuster is starting down that road. I liked S3 but I didn't "Love" it, and I think that S2 was better. Will I see S4? Sure. Will probably pay full price and popcorn and the whole nine yards. So why should the Spiderman crew care if I get bored and leave? They got my money.
Mr. O
Yes they did... they got $148 Million(estimate) in three days, biggest three day total of all time. I'm sure they (the studio) don't care that a few people walked out. You know what they say.. you can please some of the people some of the time, but you'll never be able to please them all.
The people that disliked it or walked out is a small group and it won't effect the total box office totals.
Well I think they thought nothing else was going to happen! So they thought they should get out early, I nearly got out but that was because I there was a huge blank screen before the "ceremony" and the singing (trying not to spoil!)
I thought the flick was OK, better than any other superhero franchise except for the first Superman movie and the latest Batman movie, But it was the worst Spider-Man movie.
They didn't need venom, and he was wasted in this flick. The Sandman and Harry was more than enough to keep this film buoyant, but the studio demanded Raimi put in Venom, so the film he wanted to make had to be changed during filming. This may be why it felt disjointed to me and my wife. While I enjoyed the film, more or less, it was still a bit disappointing to see Raimi fall into traps other superhero films fall into, which I will not talk about because or spoilers, but if you've seen the film you probably know what I'm referring to.
Overall, not as bad as some critics have said, but not the follow up I was hoping for. 6 out of 10
“Spidey 3? shatters box office records.
“Spider-Man 3? continued to shatter box-office records over the weekend. After having the largest opening day in markets across the world, the third installment of the Marvel blockbuster franchise shattered the opening-day and opening-weekend box-office records domestically.
The third “Spider-Man†film took in $59 million dollars Friday on its way to a record-setting $148 million box-office take for the entire weekend.
The totals put Spidey ahead of Captain Jack Sparrow, who last year shattered box-office records for the opening weekend of “Pirate of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.†The web-slinger and Captain Jack will go head-to-head for box-office dominance when the third installment of the “Pirates†franchise opens on May 25.
Globally, the film also shattered records, taking in $353 million world-wide over the weekend.
“Spider-Man 3? easily eclipsed everything else at the box-office over the weekend. The second place film “Disturbia†took in just under six million dollars for the weekend.
With the third “Shrek†film still over a week away, it looks as if “Spidey†could rule the box-office next weekend as well, putting the film on pass $200 million in ticket sales. The film, which cost around $250 million could make that back by the end of next weekend, which should make studio heads at Sony and Columbia Pictures very happy.
The big box-office for “Spider-Man 3? also bodes well for the summer blockbuster season for Hollywood. With the big take of “Spider-Man 3? and a number of other big films on the horizon, Hollywood projects it could pass $10 billion in ticket sales this year.
WOW.. Spiderman III did better then they estimated... it made 151.1 Million in three days... that's just amazing.
Don't mean to be a wet noodle - but is the box office gross really an indicator of popularity ? Now I know a LOT of people saw S3 - but it was (cough, cough) $9 and the theatre 4/5ths full. I don't recall exactly but when SW-ROTJ came out I think tickets were $5 and that theatre was PACKED. I just wonder if they should report how many tickets were sold in addition to the gross revenue.
That's true.. but people don't look at it tht way. It's all about the money $$$$$
They say the if your adjust the value of tickets that Gone with the Wind is the biggest money maker in history.
Plus these Days they have theatres with multiple screens. I know where I live, they were running Spidey 3 pretty much on the hour, some even 30 minutes apart. As well Movies are meant to open strong, and much shorter runs in the theatres then in the past. It will be interesting to see how Pirates 3 does in a few weeks, since it was the hands down top moneymaker last year.
There is a web site with a list of movies and their adjusted grosses due to inflation. I'll try and find the link. But Kenny is right, money is the big thing these days - as always. I have seen many movies that I really loved that didn't sell a lot of tickets (yes I'm talking about you "Serenity"). And then again, I have seen some movies that made HUGE money and I just kind of said - mehh (yes I'm talking about you Pirates 2).
Anyway, I still really enjoyed Spidey 3. I'd like to see it in IMAX before it's gone from there.

(yes I'm talking about you "Serenity").
Probably doing a ton of advance fan screenings ruined the box office for this one.
I really think the fan community et al has forgotten the point of these movies. For the studio, it's to make money, but for us, it's to be entertained. Money shouldn't matter to the fans, quality should. Spiderman 3 (see, I am on topic :) ) threw a lot of money at the script and paid little attention to logical story lines, and I've heard a ton about the money it cost and made. Children of Men, on the other hand, is one of my favorite films of all time, and I have no idea how much it cost or what it made, and it's a brilliant, well-crafted film.
I enojyed the movie. It brought me back to how i felt as a little kid reading Spiderman.
I have to say, the acting has been top in all 3 of the movies and that helps out. for example, in the first one I orginally didn't like the changes they made to goblin. But Dafoe was so amazing how could I not like it!!
The dancing spiderman was a little to far, but am I right that they kinda put that in for the kids. And even while he was supposedly smooth and cool, he still looked like a geek. I loved that. Peter Parker still, even with the symbiote, can't not be slightly awkward, and geeky.
I have to say though, I know Grace probably didn't want to be totally covered in CGI while he was Venom, but honestly. They didn't have to show his face, and have his whimpy voice. Venom is supposed to be a menacing arch enemy that can kick spiderman's arse. Topher Grace, while a good actor looks and sounds like...well...Wesley Crusher lol. In other words, not scary AT ALL.
that's the only real problem I had. the love story didn't bother me at all because Peter's infatunation with Mary Jane is a HUGE part of who he is. Is would be like doing X-men and not doing the love triangle between Wolverine, Cyclops, and Jean.
