Title: Angel Season Six continues in Comic Book
Post by: Geekyfanboy on May 03, 2007, 12:27:47 PM
I'm very excited about this news!!!!

Angel Season Six

Unfortunately Joss Whedon isn’t reviving the Buffy-verse on television.

Buoyed by the success of the eighth season of “Buffy, the Vampire Slayer” running in comic-book form, Dark Horse has decided to move forward with a sixth season for “Angel” that takes place on the printed page.

And while the series has Whedon’s blessing, he won’t be as hands-on with “Angel’s” sixth seaon as he is with “Buffy’s.” Dark Horse announced that comic-book veteran Brian Lynch will oversee the new comic-book series.

When we last saw the Angel Investigations crew, it appeared Wesley had died and Angel, Gunn, Lorne, Spike and Illeria were facing down an army of demons. The series was cancelled by the WB in its fifth season but given enough time to create a resolution to some of the arc plots. Whether or not the comic series will pick up with the epic battle is yet to be determined.

Awesome news!  Angel really needed a better ending.

yeah tell me about it.. I was so not happy with that ending and they actually made it that way meaning they knew this was the end and choose to end the series that way.

Speaking of Angel...the silhouette I created for Rico's Signature was created with the help of a certain actor from the above mentioned TV show...Recognize it?  :D

Oh and Angela will be VERY pleased with this bit of news. She LOVES the Buffy comic. I'm sure she'll be adding the Angel series of comics to her shelf as well.  :)

I'm not as big a fan of this move.

Buffy's season 8 is special and authoritative because the creator and writing staff of the show are continuing it.

Now we see a TOS season 4 and Angel season 6 which aren't anywhere near the same thing.

It's understandable, since the Buffy effort has been a success so far, and I expected this to happen, but it's just a marketing ploy.

I hope the comics, which I'll read, can approach that level of quality.

I guess I see this differently. I see it as an extention of something that I love. I love the Buffy comic books because it continues the story and characters that I love. Of course I hope Angel is well written but it will be great to see where these characters go. They are also making more Firefly comics.. I'm excited about those as well. If we can't get more TV episodes or movies then comic books or novels are the next best thing.

Sure, Kenny, but that's always been the way.  Especially for Trek, we've had books and comics which continued the adventures in ways the movies or episodes wouldn't.  (The Lost Years books come to mind.)

Now this concept of an unproduced season (or really just the title) is being co-opted for purely marketing reasons.  How will TOS, Season 4 be any different than the hundreds of other TOS stories we've seen over the past 40 years?

I'll definitely read the Angel and Firefly books, but I'm not sure they'll mean as much.

Also, if, however unlikely, the CW or some other outlet comes to Joss and makes him a deal to continue the Angel story five years from now, would he feel constrained by these stories?  I think he would with the Buffy season 8, because it's got his name right on it.  I don't know about the rest.

Splinter of the Mind's Eye was a continuation of something I loved.  And when the time came for a filmed sequel, the true creator just ignored it all.

Well, I doubt that they'll make any more Angel, or Buffy shows, since the actors are too old to look that young anymore. I think the books and comics are going to be the definitive universe from here on in when it comes to these series.

As far as TOS season 4, New Voyages is already doing that. Why not incorporate them into this. Show that they love fan support, and encourage more fan activity. It would get word out among both camps to keep the franchise fresher and in people's faces, especially with the next flick coming out.

Hey all you Angel and Buffy fans.. don't forget that the new "Sixth" Season of Angel in comic book form comes out Nov. 21st. Be sure to see how it all goes down after that gut wrenching season finale cliffhanger.

That's a must buy for me.  I've been loving the Buffy season 8 comic.  It's great that they are doing these with Joss involved.

Yeah I love these books.. and I'm so glad Joss is involved with both. These are some great characters and it's cool great seeing them live on past their TV shows cancellation.
