At this year’s annual Science Fiction Museum Hall of Fame ceremonies, to be held on June 16, Mr. Star Trek, Gene Roddenberry, will finally get the honor he so richly deserves, his own unique place in the SF Hall of Fame. Author Neal Stephenson will host the evening’s events.
You can draw a line between what media SF was and what it became as a result of Gene’s vision of what he thought the future of our world and space travel ought to be like. There is BGR and AGR (Before Gene Roddenberry and After Gene Roddenberry).
When Gene created Star Trek, he set the path of science fiction in a whole new direction that it never dreamed was possible. Humankind raised itself out of the ashes of a devastating global world war, a battle between genetically enhanced humans and first contact with an alien race to become one of this galaxy’s brightest stars in the development of a Federation of Planets that envisioned positive growth and advancement for all species. I cannot think of anyone more befitting of this honor than Gene Roddenberry.
The other 2007 inductees for the Science Fiction Museum Hall of Fame will include artist Ed Emshwiller, “Blade Runner†director Ridley Scott and author Gene Wolfe. “Blade Runner†was picked by Slice of SciFi’s international fanbase as their all-time favorite science fiction movie.
That's cool news for Gene. Much deserved.
i love the star trek lore because if it was true we would have earth trek and Khan would be floating in space...
I covered the Hall of Fame induction for startrek.com, and my article should be up sometime tomorrow! It was an amazing event!!!! I actually got to meet Wil Wheaton! I know that I'm a nerdy fangirl, but I just couldn't help myself. Here is the photo to show you all my geeky glory!
