Title: Podcast #113 is up!
Post by: Rico on April 01, 2007, 11:12:05 AM
Just got show #113 up gang.  All about cartoons.  Mostly superhero type shows I've enjoyed over the years.  Along with some news and two collectible reviews.  Hope you like!    :superman

Hey Rico-  great podcast.  Wow, talk about some fun memories.  I didn't watch some of those, but I may check them out soon.  I have to admit... the Superfriends were missing... and we all know the amazing quality and storylines.  :smilie_bleh:

Wonder Twin Powers Activate!  Form of an ice pick, shape of a walrus.

ahh, yes, cheese at it's finest.

:)

The boys and I have watched most of the Justice League episodes.  We have a couple of movies.  We watch Legion of Superheroes, and we kind of like that.  It is pretty young.

I really enjoyed the collectible reviews.  Jeff-  AWESOME review, I really enjoyed it- the music and the detail were simply great.  And Rico-  I want a Yoda Saber now.  :)

I liked the podcast, great job as always.

Yeah - the choice of which shows to cover was a bit hard.  I did watch the Superfriends too.  One of the trickiest parts of any of the podcasts is always what to cover and what to leave for another time.  I did have a lot of fun though visiting old favorite cartoon series for this podcast.

You pretty much covered the ones my daughter and I tend to watch. I remember X-Men. Since the advent of the WB Superman, Batman Beyond and Justice League Unlimited, It's hard for me to watch X-Men. We find ourselves especially going back to JLU. BTW, Tim Daly was much better than George Newbern. Also, the JLU episodes seem to be written better than the original "Justice League" and explored golden age/silver age characters.

Rico, in conjunction with info on "Thunderbirds", you forgot to mention the recent movie directed by Trek alum Jonathan Frankes (unless that's something we'd all like to forget).

I was going to contribute an MP3, but didn't was in a frenzy to get tax stuff done. Good thing though, it wouldn't have been about superhero cartoons and would have totally come out of left field.

What's everyone's favorite superhero cartoon?

Great Podcast Rico, really enjoyed it. Hopefully you can do another cartoon podcast in the future, like you mentioned, so many you could not inlcude. Thanks for playing my Koto review, great to hear it, as well thanks for the Kind Words Rick, it was the first time I did music.

When I jumped on the elliptical, I was so hoping to hear the theme from Star Blazers!  I have never been a morning person, but all through junior high I managed to drag myself out of bed to watch Star Blazers!  To this day (over 25 years later), I still occasionally break out into the closing credits song!  We own the whole series on DVD but haven't made the time to watch it all in order.  Some day.

Snarf!

Poody - I actually kind of enjoyed the Thunderbirds live action movie.  And I did know Frakes directed it.  Love the Thunderbirds rock song in the movie and play it a couple times a week.

Jedijeff - I will revisit the cartoon subject sometime in the future.  Many great shows I didn't cover.  Might even do one covering the live action stuff from the 70's - 80's like "Land of the Lost," "Jason of Star Command," and others like that.

Chrystabel - I've never seen much of the Star Blazers show but I've been working my way through more anime type shows lately.  I'll get some episodes from Netflix.

Loved this podcast Rico, keep up the great work!
By the way, I did realize the moment that you played the XMen song.  I really like that series along with the 90s Spiderman Animated Series.  Watched Spiderman whenever I could, it was a great show.

Anyway, keep it up!

Great show! I watched most of those with my kids. LOL When I watched Saturday morning cartoons it was UNDERDOG! ( Speed of Lightning roar of thunder...) and Rocky & Bullwinkle. Oh yeah - Mighty Mouse - oh I am so dating myself.  :roflmao
I do remember the old cartoons that they played on TV after school, like the Superman ones from the forties. We loved those they were so cool and the animation was pretty good for its day. My favorite is Batman. I was so excited when that came out. I still watch cartoons - Teen Titans, any Batman cartoon plus a fair amount of Anime.

I also watched those Jay Ward cartoons. The Max Fleischer Superman cartoons are classics. Don't worry about dating yourself, I remember the original Alvin & The Chipmunks from the 60's (Mrs. Frumpington's Song is a classic as far as I'm concerned)! It's wild what they were able to get away with back then. If Rico does another podcast on Saturday morning cartoons, I'd love to do a comment on The Chipmunks.

As a small child, TV was the big babysitter for me (there was actually a morning show called "The Big Babysitter" in L.A.). I think I saw just about every cartoon under the sun:

Mighty Mouse
Harvey Comics Cartoons (Casper, Little Lulu, Baby Huey, etc.)
Mr. Magoo
The Dick Tracy Show
Betty Boop
The Big World Of Little Adam
Dodo, The Kid From Outer Space
Courageous Cat & Minute Mouse
Hanna-Barbera (From Huckleberry Hound to Touche Turtle to Sinbad The Sailor to Johnny Quest)
Tom & Jerry
Warner Bros.
Beany & Cecil
The Hunter
Clutch Cargo
Felix The Cat
The Post Cereal Cartoons (Linus The Lionhearted, Sugar Bear, Loveable Truly, the Rice Krinkles guy, etc.)
...lots more

You can check out theme songs and some video at www.toontracker.com (http://www.toontracker.com). Try to view the video of "Mrs. Frumpington's Song" (http://www.toontracker.com/realvid/realvid.htm) if it's there.
