Ok then ladies and gentlemen, I've discussed this with Rico and we've decided the most fair way to decide what to name our new Akira class starship for the Forum RPG is to throw the floor open for suggestions,
I have a few suggestions myself (which I'll post below) but we also want your suggestions. You can post reasons on your choices if you wish, even if the reason is just "I think it sounds cool".
Rico, Kenny & I will then pick out a few that seem to be the most popular and/or what we think would suit best and put the final choice to a forum vote!
Ok, My suggestions (part 1)
USS Thunderchild:
Not only is this a fantastic "War of the Worlds" reference but it is also a cannon name from the ST universe. It is in fact the name of the first Akira class ship ever seen on Star Trek, during the battle of Sector 001 in First Contact. It'd give us a nice ship background and as I say, is a cannon name.
USS Endeavour:
Named after the first ship of Captain James Cook (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captian_James_Cook#First_voyage_.281768-1771.29) (Explorer that discovered Australia and Hawaii) the HMB Endeavour (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HM_Bark_Endeavour). That and I think it's a damn cool name that sounds very Star Trek-y.

I will have to think on this. I like Endeavour a lot. I'll see if I can come up with a few other ideas.
From the two you listed, I like Endeavor better. But I would like to add another name to the list: the USS Maelstrom

If you're still voting can I put in a few to consider?
U.S.S. Integral - reference to the ship being designed in the novel We by Zamiatan which was the inspiration for 1984 by Wells. (right?)
U.S.S. Alabama - cuz it would be neat to shout "Go 'Bama! Roll Tide!" after general muster.
U.S.S. Ford - C'mon we like the guy....
U.S.S. King - Was King's dream of the future that much different than Roddenberry's?
U.S.S. Hefner - wait.. nevermind.
U.S.S. Archer - though maybe if they were going to name a ship after him it'd be a galaxy class?
Just some thoughts,
Mr. O
