Hey everyone,
Ok, this is something I've been thinking about and wanting to look into for a while in one way or another now and I thought I'd bring up the subject and see what you all think (especially you Rico).
A brief flashback first. Way back in the day when I was still in my late teens, the internet was young and a 56k modem was speed on wheels I went onto the net trying to find some decent Trek stuff. I found a nice little community on the (then named) "Yahoo Clubs" site (now called "Yahoo Groups") of people who did online Star Trek RPGs.
It worked rather easily, you had a thread in a message board that was your main timeline and each poster had their own character. Every time you posted you had to continue the storyline from the perspective of your character (following a few rules about not messing up other people's characters and "being realistic" of course).
Anyway I ended up starting one with a friend I'd met and we got rather large (300+ members) and ran for a little over two years before a hacking attack destroyed us.
The point of the story being we had fun, I had fun and we created our own little corner of the Trek universe with our own ship and it's own personalities that are just as real as any of the series are to me.
So, the proposition:
How about we do one?
Create our own little RP community, our own ship and crew and go and see where we can boldly go?
I'd appreciate any views/questions/suggestions/etc.
Matt
Sounds interesting to me!
Hey Matt,
I did Star Trek RPG for many, many years and loved it, but lack of time became an issue and I had to give it up. It might work is things are done right, let's see what Rico says.
Yey! Glad to see that early response is good.
Indeed we will see what Rico thinks.
Only other things I wanted to mention are that I'd make sure everyone was ok with the timeline setting before starting. It'd obviously be a federation based Trek RP. And if there are any bandwidth issues due to Rico having to host the podcast too I can host the thing on my webserver if it came to that.
Hmm, interesting. I've never been in one of these, though I've heard a lot about them. I'd be interested, at least if time permits. ;)
Sounds cool dude.
Yes, this sounds interesting to me as well.
Sounds like a very cool idea keozen. I'm all for it! How would you see doing this? Would a members only forum section for the RPG here be a way to start? Or would Yahoo Groups be better?? Let me know. I'd be looking to you to coordinate it and keep it rolling.
Id be interested in learning more. Ive never done one of these before and not sure if I could participate with the time difference but I would be interested in learning more and participating if I could. Sounds like a good idea to me. :thumbsup

The easiest way to have it working would be in a forum on here with yourself and any GMs (game masters) having mod access to. Members only of course and having One Sticky post at the top with Rules & Faq and a sticky post underneath it for the storyline itself. People also should be able to post freely below for new character and plot discussions.
If you want to chat about it I'm on Skype (keozen) and msn (keozen@hotmail.com).
Matt :)
Ohh, and totally unrelated but I sent you an audio comment earlier, hope it got through ok :)
This sounds very interesting. I've never played an RPG that wasn't a video game. Count me in. :)
I got your audio for show 100 Keozen - thanks. Let's see what folks think over the next few days about this idea. Post your thoughts here....
Ok guys, you heard the Admiral (Fleet Admiral Rico of course). What do you think?
General opinions are welcomed as are your views on the following:
What timescale of the trek universe would you like to play in (TOS, TNG, DS9/VGR, Post Voyager return or Enterprise)?
What class of ship would you like to see feature (can even be a specially designed one for us)?
Suggest a name for the ship.
What kind of character would you like to play? Race? Position on board?
Any suggestions on the logistics of running the game itself?
As always If anyone wants to talk about the whole thing I'm on skype (keozen) or msn (keozen@hotmail.com)
I Vote we set it in the TNG/DS9/Voy era.
I have always liked the Galaxy Class ship and I like the fact that the saucer section comes apart.
Nice suggestion Kenny. How about we name our ship after the vessel in Rico's childhood audio dramas? I'm sorry, can't remember if it was a unique ship or the Enterprise...If the ship was unique, I think it would be a fitting choice.
I would like to play a Vulcan woman. A science officer...possibly an archaeologist.
I'm going to resurrect my former Simming character.
Nathanial Jacob Quinn, he's a half El Aurian and half Betazaid.
I already have his entire profile done.. now I just have to find it.
As for Ship Name... I like that suggestion Jen... thanks
You're welcome Kenny ;)
What's a El Aurian? I'm going to go check it out right now on Startrek.com but which series did it first appear on. I'm not sure I remember seeing one on TNG. Sounds like an interesting combination.
The El Aurians were guinans race, if memory serves.
Ah...of course. Guinan was an El Aurian. An interesting combination indeed.
Just had a nice conversation with Kenny over Skype about the whole thing.
I'm really pleased by the enthusiasm everyone is showing.
Kenny Suggested using the Post DS9/Voyager era to set the series, I fully agree with that, I honestly think Trek was at its best then. My suggestion would be to start it just as has returned home.
I was thinking of having a Trill male character, I've played one before & I love the flexibility they ahve for some storylines.
Any more thoughts people?
I'm interested, but I don't think I grasp the concept of how it would work. Could I watch for a while and join later?

Of course you can, but I promise you it will be very easy. Kind of like a long story that everyone contributes mini-chapters to. When we start Kenny & I will do a few posts first to get people into the swing of it.
I've just posted a new topic about it with a bit more info here:
