Title: BOOK EXCHANGE
Post by: Rico on January 14, 2007, 05:31:09 AM
I had this idea as I was wiping the sleep out of my eyes this morning.  How about a Treks in Sci-Fi book exchange?  I love to read - always have.  But I end up with several books that just sit around after I'm done with them.  Eventually I donate some to a library or something but I thought why not share them here.  What I propose is a basically free book exchange.  Post any books you want to give away here.  If you find something you want to read, post a message here or send the member a PM.  I think it would be fair to ask for those that want a book that they pay the shipping, but other than that it would be free.  I'm thinking about $5 to ship a hardcover and $3 for a paperback - that's a suggestion.

If this takes off, I'll try and keep a running list composed somewhere and post it from time to time.  Well what do you all think?  Let me know.  To get things started I will post a few of the recent books I have read and want to give away.  I have quite a few more, but this was the closest pile I saw.  ;)

"Weaveworld" by Clive Barker
"Shadowmancer" by G.P. Taylor
"Tatooine Ghost" by Troy Denning
"The Boy who would Live Forever" by Frederik Pohl
"Rogue's Hour" by Scott Ciencin

That sounds great Rico. I know that I would be willing to do that. I know that you don't have as many forum members here in the U.K. as in the States, but I would be willing to pay the extra shipping. How do you guys feel about swapping with me? Is it worth me getting involved?

This might take awhile to get going, but folks if you have extra books you want to pass on and trade post them here.  We'll see how this works out.

What a great idea Rico! I may be interested in your Tatooine Ghost novel...I heard it was just so-so. What did you think about it?
Here's a list of books I'm willing to exchange:

1. Star Trek TNG "Tooth And Claw" by Doranna Durgin
2. Star Trek TNG "A Time To Die" by John Vornholt
3. "Wicked", The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire
4. "An Army of Angels", A novel of Joan of Arc (Historical fiction) by Pamela Marcantel
5. "I was Amelia Earhart" (Historical Fiction) by Jane Mendelsohn

I'm currently reading, and keeping, novels from the Star Wars Expanded Universe. If anyone would like to exchange any Rouge Squadron or Jedi Academy novels...let me know.

This really is a great idea Rico! It's great to be able to share books with people who will appreciate them.  I may be interested in your Frederik Pohl book; how was it?

Here's my list for now (until I finish reading all the books I've bought):

1. Learning the World   by Ken MacLeod---Recommended
2. People of the Raven   by Kathleen O'Neal Gear and W. Michael Gear---It's good
3. Destiny's Road   by Larry Niven---Recommended only if you like Larry Niven
4. Good Omens   by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett---Recommended

I posted something about Good Omens a long time ago but I never wrote anything close to a review.  The book is good (it's been in publication since 1990) and is sometimes very funny.  There were some instances though when the subject matter got a little esoteric; I know the authors wrote something funny but I wasn't laughing because I didn't know about what they were writing about.

:D Yeah, I've had that happen to me too. Glad you liked that book PepperDude...I think we had a converstion about that one when you first bought it.

Glad to see some action on this.  I'm tempted by a couple of the books I see so far too.  Tatooine Ghost was ok.  The Pohl book also ok.  Neither great or super in my view - but worth a read.  Let me know if you would like either Jen or Pepper.

Hmm... lessee... what do I have lying around...

Well, aparently not much, unless you want to read French Sci-Fi novels, that it.  :P

Oh! Didn't even know I had this... an original 1977 novelisation of Star Wars, complete with pictures from the movie.

Well, nothing I want to sell really... maybee I'll find some more later. ;)

I also have some Star Wars Audio books I'd be willing to trade someone.
Labyrinth of Evil by James Luceno, Medstar I: Battle Surgeons and Medstar II: Jedi Healer by Michael Reaves and Steve Perry. I'm looking for the   X-Wing Series of novels and Thrawn Trilogy. Let me know if anyone's got a book or two they want to trade.

Understandable...I have many Star Wars novels I won't part with. :)

I "trade" books on www.bookcrossing.com  -  but since I'm Swiss it's mostly trading with my fellow Europeans.

The idea of sharing books is great.
