Based on Jim Butcher's best-selling novels, The Dresden Files tells the story of Harry Dresden (Paul Blackthorne), a regular-guy private detective with extraordinary abilities. While most people see assaults, kidnappings or murders as the work of people with a depraved indifference for human pain, Harry is as likely as not to see the work of supernatural villains.
That's because he's a wizard. The real thing (and the only one listed in the Chicago phone directory). Whether consulting for the police on seemingly inexplicable crimes or following his own cases, he battles dark forces with a wry sense of humor.
The story begins when local gangster Tommy Tom and his girlfriend Jennifer Randall are found dead in a hotel room, their hearts having literally exploded from their chests. There's no natural explanation for the gruesome scene â€" no forced entry, no sign of struggle and no evidence that the two organs had become fatally claustrophobic. So police Lt. Connie Murphy turns to Harry Dresden, wizard.
I have been seeing commercals for this for a while on Sci Fi.. so I decided to check it out a bit more. From the commercal it looked like another cop/drama show but this one has a twist.. but I didn't know what the twist was until I went to the website.. he's a Wizard. Harry the Wizard who solves crime. They had me at Wizard.. can't wait for it to premiere.
Yes - this is looking good.
Here's a little preview I found....

Yeah I set the Dvr last night to record this and then BSG immediately following...hopefully this will be a good one....it's a great premise.
It looks like an interesting show...
I just checked this show out tonight before BSG. Definitely an interesting crime type show. Probabky keeo watching as I find the theme of this show intriguing.
Just finished watching and I have to say that I really enjoyed it alot. It was funny, intresting, had cool special effects, and kind of through into the middle of the story. I like the fact that he doesn't really hid his powers. I look forward to seeing where this series goes.
I watched the first episode and liked it. I wanted to see Harry use his powers a bit more though. He seemed to not do much in the way of magic in this episode. And is every wizard/magician in the world named Harry? But I like the character and will continue to watch the show.

I think it's got a good start but there's still some room to better explain to us just how much the "world" understands and accepts magic. Is this a case where going to a magician makes 'some' sense or is it more like the modern world where that kind of stuff sends you to a padded room for a few years?

LOL...no kidding..good call Rico. I saw most of it and thought it was pretty good...Will definitely check it out this weekend too.

New York, NY â€" In the face of the AFC Championship game â€" the highest-rated program since last year’s Super Bowl â€" SCI FI delivered a decisive victory on Sunday, January 21, with the series debut of “The Dresden Files†and the midseason premiere of its Peabody Award-winning “Battlestar Galactica.â€

Skewing 51% female, ‘Dresden’ improved the four-week time period average by +86% among women 18-49, and +68% among women 25-54.
Delivering a 1.4 HH rating, 1.8 million viewers P2+, 1.3 million P18-49 and 1.3 million P25-54s, “Battlestar Galactica,†moving to its new Sunday timeslot, was the #1 basic cable entertainment program for the day among P18-49 and P25-54. The series grew +60% in P18-49 and +18% in P25-54 compared to its midseason finale on December 15, 2006. This was SCI FI’s best Sunday at 10PM performance since the June 2003 showing of the blockbuster film “Terminator 2: Judgment Day.â€
‘Battlestar’s’ move to Sundays delivered an astounding increase female viewers, with a +68% jump among F18-49 and +31% among F25-54 over the series’ midseason finale on December 15, 2006.
From 9-11PM, the SCI FI Channel ranked #1 in cable for P18-49s with a 1.3 average HH rating and 1.7 million viewers P2+. This is SCI FI’s best P18-49 performance in the Sunday 9-11PM time period since May 2005 when it aired Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park. “
Thats good that there were good numbers for both. For me in Canada, they show on our Space Channel at the same time as in the US. For me they Show The Dresden Files at 9:00 est and BSG at 10:00pm eastern. Fortunately for me, we are two hours behind, and they do not shift, so I get Dresden at 7:00 pm and BSG at 8:00 pm, so both really good times for me.
I enjoyed the second Episode, as it took a little while for me to figure what was happening. Will admit that I felt that the second half fell apart for me a little bit. Still looking forward to the next episode.
It is on way too late for me :-(
I have to wait until they replay or tape it. I liked the first one but it did not grab me the way Hero's did, can't wait Hero's is on tonight yippee
I watched my first episode of this last night and really enjoyed it, it looks very promising.
Is anyone still watching this? I watched with first three episodes and thought it was okay it couldn't keep my intrested and I have stopped watching them. I have them all on DVR but want to know are they worth watching or should I just delete them. Thanks
I've watched them all Kenny and I'd say continue to watch them. It took awhile to get going but the last 3-4 episodes have been very good. There's a great female vampire episode, another episode with Claudia Black (trying an American accent out) and the most recent episode focuses on Harry's past dealing with his Uncle and black magic. I really like the show a lot. It's on my TIVO as a season pass!
I like it too Kenny - cool stuff dude!
I missed last weeks one, so I am going to try and find a torrent of it, but I have really been enjoying it, I hope they come back for another season.
I saw some epidodes...AWSOME!
Guess I'll save them and try and catch up. Thanks guys.
Things might be looking a little glum for Harry Dresden fans. According to screenwriter and Jim Butcher’s friend Robert Wolfe, over at the JimButcher.com forums, it may be time for fans of The Dresden Files television show to start campaigning.
When that very question was put to him just yesterday Wolfe responded, “I suppose now is as good a time to push as any, though, honestly, I’m not sure it will help. The decision was supposed to be made last Friday, but it wasn’t, so that’s something at least.â€
The decision he speaks of is the one that SCI Channel execs will be making concerning the renewal hopes of “The Dresden Files†for a second season. The show, which debuted last season didn’t do as well as many had hoped in its Sunday night timeslot, even though it was a lead-in for “Battlestar Galactica.†BSG’s numbers have also dropped since the move to Sunday night. Fans complained from the beginning that it was starting to look like SCI FI was pulling a Fox when it aired the episodes out of sequence (Fox basically buried “Firefly†when it did the same exact thing for that show).
It's too bad if it doesn't come back. It was a nice, different type of show and fun to watch. Fingers still crossed here.
I hope that they bring it back, as I really enjoyed it. I do agree that having the shows out of sequence was a bit confusing for me.
I was watching our Local news tonight, and they mentioned that they may film The Dresden Files in my home city next year :). First I am happy that it looks like it may be back, secondly I am happy that they might be filming it locally, so I might be able to see some of the shoots if I am lucky.

If things work out as officials in Edmonton are hoping, the city will be adding some badly needed jobs and income to their location. There is the possibility that Lionsgate Entertainment and SCI FI will be moving locations for The Dresden Files’ next season to Edmonton within the month with actual shooting set to begin in the fall.
The Dresden Files, a show about a P.I. who uses the magical arts to solve cases, is suppose to take place in Chicago, Illinois in the United States, but its first season was shot on various locations in and around Vancouver and Montreal.
One of the main factors for considering a move to Edmonton has been the city’s willingness to be open to the needs of the production, whereas, over the years since Montreal and Vancouver have become hot spots for film and television production, greater restrictions and costs have ensued for the many studios wanting to shoot there.
Another of the prizes that may come Edmonton’s way is the Masters of Horror series. The latter is almost a sure thing, whereas, Dresden coming to Edmonton will depend on whether or not the series gets picked up by SCI FI for another run. That decision from the network has yet to be made public.
Most of the residents of Edmonton are excited about the prospect of news roads, jobs and increased commerce, but a few are wary and worry that their city and it’s uniqueness will just get swallowed up in the “showbiz†glitz and loose site of who they are and what they stand for. Scott McKeen of The Edmonton Journal sums it up this way, “…a TV series will bring [in] some glamour to Edmonton, the likes of which we haven’t seen since Gretzky wore an Oilers jersey, or the SCTV gang filmed here. And if the city makes money on the deal, well, they can always invest it in asphalt.
Cool news! Hope that means it's coming back for a second season.
Ive watched this show, I hope it is back for a second season

Bad news for fans of SCI FI’s “The Dresden Files.â€
TV Guide’s media reporter and SPOILER expert Michael Ausiello reports in Wednesday’s Ask Ausiello column that sources report the show is “toast.â€
No official word either way from the SCI FI Channel on if the series will come back for a second season.
That's too bad if it doesn't come back. It was a pretty cool show I thought.
Looks like the Dresden Files were cancelled earlier this month :(. There is a petition to bring it back
http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/new-home-4-dresden
I feel a bit down about this as I really liked the Dresden Files, and it seems like every time I like a TV program that is not mainstream, they cancel it.
Yeah - I enjoyed it too. It was different. I'm going to read some of the books now.
For those that may have missed this cool series. You can watch the episodes on Youtube now. Here's number one:

Cool. :) The book series is pretty fun; guess I'll give the show a try.
