Title: Sound Clips
Post by: Locutus on December 21, 2005, 06:38:51 AM
Hi, Rico.

Love the podcast. I've started one myself, mainly about horror flicks.

This brings me to my question - how do you getthe sound clips from the DVDs? I am just holding the mic in front of my laptop speakers, and it kinda works, but that doesn't sound like the best oprion.

Thanks.
Corby

Basically I play the DVD in my computer and record them in a program called "Audacity."  Search the web, it's an easy program to find and it's free.  I get to the spot on the DVD and record the clip.  I sometimes tweak the audio on them a bit, a little louder and put fade in and fade outs sometimes.  Then I cue them up in Winamp and play them during the show through my mixer.  There are several programs to capture audio on your PC out there.  Many come with sound cards you buy.

I use Audacity, but for some reason, I can't get it to record sound from DVD.

Maybe it's cause I'm using a laptop.

Oh, well. I guess I'll just have to find a different way to pull clips.

Thanks!

Make sure you have your audio properties set to record "What you hear."  And that is also set the same way in Audacity.  That should do it.

*shakes head* If you had Macs, there is an app called wiretap. Works the best

This is probably a stupid question, but do you have a DVD R on your laptop? Sorry if that sounded really lame I'm sure you do.

cool. My friend uses an AMD processor, and says he likes it better than intel, but I like Intel, so... I'm really not sure which one is better.

By the bye - I figured it out, and can now pull clips like a pro.

If you are interested in horror flicks, my podcast is at http://thehorrorshow.libsyn.com/

Thanks for the responses. (Oh, and, yes - I have a DVD player on my laptop, for whomever asked earlier. :) )

How did you do that sound thingy again. When I play the clip I want on the DVD and start recording with audacity, nothing comes? Why is this.

K I have it working now... sort of. When I record from the DVD I get this fussy sound in the background. It is annoying. Anyone know how to get rid of it. Thanx.

Ok, now I have it working, I just needed to play around with the sound levels a little.
