Title: Binge Watching..
Post by: Bromptonboy on January 05, 2015, 05:13:58 AM
A friend of mine who was ill over the holidays with the flu - did a full marathon re-watch of Game Of Thrones season 1 - 4.

I thought it might be fun to list any binge watching we may have done.  I can only think of a few shows I have done this on - but it takes me weeks.

LOST - My wife and I watched a few shows a night for a whole summer to catch up with the last season.  We just made it to the final show in time!

BSG - I watched the first 2 seasons while season 3 was being broadcast

House of Cards (both US and UK versions)

Breaking Bad - wife and I did a marathon watch to catch up with the last season - saw that one on air.  :)

My family has a handful of shows we try to keep up with, everything else is bingewatched a few episodes each night:

Firefly, Dollhouse, Buffy: Had to catch up on Joss's TV genius.

BSG: My "wife's not watching TV tonight" show. If it weren't for Edward J. Olmos, I never would have made it through season 3. Still haven't seen the last few episodes, since it got pulled from streaming services...

Cleopatra 2525: Train wreck of a show. Entertaining, though.  Used to catch the occasional episode on business trips, was nice to be able to see it in the right order, not that it makes a big difference...

Supernatural: caught up during last season. Took forever...

The Great Food Truck Race: Basically, the food channel version of The Amazing Race. Lots of fun. Quick.

Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared: Apatow used to do TV? Who knew?

Rescue Me: Binged on the first few seasons, decided we didn't care about any of the characters enough to watch more.

Sherlock: binge every season when it comes out.

The Librarians: Watched the movies over New Years break, watching the show now. The kids are loving this one, too.

In the queue: Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, Highlander, ... What else should be?

The last series I watched end to end was Lost after years of my sister bugging me to see it.
The 'flip-book' perspective better reveals the strength of the writing.
Lost had a great first few seasons, I particularly liked season 2.

I saw BSG SG-1, SG-Atlantis, B5, FarScape... and Firefly (that was quick).

There have only been a few shows I give up on the first season, La femme Nakita and Jeremiah.

Firefly!  That is one I haven't seen - should be easy to binge watch when I get the time.  :)  thanks for jogging my memory.  :)

Don't really ever binge watch.  I did catch up on "Dexter" after the first couple of seasons had aired but even then I spent maybe a month doing that.  I've hardly ever have watched more than one episode of a show in a day.

I usually don't binge watch a show, then I found MI-5.  I blasted threw 4 or 5 seasons (oops..series) in now time.  I just binge watched Peaky Blinders.  It was pretty good.  Now I need to see Boardwalk Empire.

I binged on seasons 2 & 3 of the Steven Van Zandt series Lilyhammer on Netflix over the Xmas break.  16 episodes in about a week.  Great series especially if you're a fan of the Sopranos and the Godfather trilogy.  Now I've moved on to the Starz limited series "the Missing", which I am watching with my wife, one episode a night.  We're up to episode 5, so three to go, and boy it's tough not to peek ahead because this series has really grabbed me hard.

I have seen a few episodes of Lilyhammer - it is a lot of fun.  I'll have to try them again.

I just binged on four seasons of the Showtime series "Shameless". Took me about two weeks to catch up with the series in real time...funny show, I really enjoyed it.

Is Shameless on Netflix?  I am beginning to get ready for House Of Cards season 3 (US edition).  Really looking foward to this one!

New warning about the health dangers of TV bing-watching

They didn't specify which shows. :)

Reading that article reminds me about the episode of Friends when Joey buys Chandler and him a large screen TV and  two new leather recliners and they wouldn't leave the chairs even to eat or use the restroom. They became TV zombies. Very funny episode. We've binge watched on occasion. Frequently we'll watch four or five episodes of a show back to back. It's not a habit with us but sometimes it's just fun to chill out and work through a show we really enjoy. Other times we like something so much we try and savor them by sparingly watching a show. I'm not too sure about the veracity of that study at all.

I almost prefer coming in late to a show - so you have all these episodes in the can and don't have to wait.

I am not sure about Netflix and Shameless...I think some Showtime shows are on there.  I was watching through Xfinity.

As for that article, well, I'm not depressed or lonely, but lack of self control, overweight, and fatigued?  They might be on to something there.  Actually, why aren't they studying something meaningful?  Let me watch TV the way I want to please.

I'm just old school and like watching shows as they air. Gives me time to digest things and get excited for what comes next.  Plus I never seem to have a block of time to binge watch anything.
