Title: Marathon
Post by: davekill on June 03, 2014, 10:57:51 AM
What  was your last movie marathon; Back To The Future, Star Trek 1, 2, and 3?

After reading Heinlen's original Starship Troopers I had to revisit the '97 movie.

Geared to a wider audience, Johnny Rico's solo journey becomes a buddy movie, with Carl, Carmen and Diz.
- Still a fun ride and carries the spirit of the original tome.

Skip the second movie, J.R. wasn't in it, and on the ST-3 Marauder!
Despite a lower budget, in this '08 flick Rico does a cap jump in a new battle-suit and like the novel, tells and old friend "I'll see you on the bounce".

Finally - ST Invasion, what a ride!
Rico's back as a sage warrior.
Maybe geared to even a wider audience - I had to smile as the movie starts and circle complete with the first paragraph of the book " I always get the shakes before a drop..."

And for something completely different.. I did a Terry Gilliam marathon a while back with Time Bandits, Brazil, and 12 Monkeys - oh my!

I don't marathon films very often anymore.  But now after reading your comments Dave I want to do it!

How do you define marathon? For the last six months, my wife has watched at least one Potter movie each night. Occasionally, like tonight, we watched Breaking Dawn one and two.

That's a good question. For me it's three or more eps or movies in one sitting - I've heard it described as binging too. Much easier to do in the winter.

If you can get on a roll with nightly viewings, that sounds like a more manageable way to marathon.

My wife and I did a binge watch of 'House of Cards'.  I would love to do a SciFi marathon, but we don't get that big of a window.  Since getting older, I have the alarming habit of falling asleep when I sit down to watch TV.  :)
I am a big fan of Starship Troopers the book - thought the first movie was ok - haven't seen the others yet.

My sister gave me the first season of Lost as a birthday gift :)
As a sci-fi geek, that was like throwing gasoline on a fire.
It didn't take long to devour the entire series one ep a day.
an ultra-marathon!

That is a good one.  My wife and I started that series in season 5 - we played catchup all summer - watching 2 episodes a night.  :)

Growing up in the 70's, I loved the Dharma Initiative idea.
Season 2, and 3 are favorites.

Not to make light of addiction - I have occasionally binged on Trek on weekends.. but could stop if I wanted to.

I went through the TOS Trek movies a few months back, I watched one a week, so that is the closest I got recently. The Wife is going back to China this upcoming Christmas, so I might just take a weekend or a few days on my Christmas Vacation and just do a marathon of something for a few days straight, just breaking for food and sleep. Did those when I was single years back, and sort of liked just doing nothing, felt like it was time well wasted :)

Had to work a split-shift today. Tired and grouchy until Journey to Babel, The Ultimate Computer, and Assignment: Earth - all remastered versions.
Much better now.

Can't say how much I like the Starship battles in the Ultimate Computer!
We finally got to see the TOS fleet :)

We have been marathoning through 'Orange Is The New Black'.  Not Scifi but pretty good.
