He has appeared on the silver screen seven times in his most famous role as Captain Kirk.
And now William Shatner is getting set to boldly go where he has gone before when his one-man show hits cinemas this week - for one night only.
The Star Trek legend's Shatner's World ... We Just Live in It will be shown at more than 700 theatres around the USA on Thursday.
It will feature a professionally recorded version of his acclaimed Broadway show, which was noted for its overabundance on hilarious anecdotes from the Canadian actor.
The 83-year-old will be making the most of his big night, as he will be taking in his show with an audience at a Los Angeles movie theatre.
He told the New York Daily News: 'It's a one-night-only event, [so] people — for the price of a movie ticket — can see a Broadway show.'
He wants to explain to audiences 'this idea, this concept that life is precious and it needs to be embraced with both arms and smothered by you, because it's over so quickly.
'I talk about the death of Captain Kirk, which leads me into the mystery of death and what is grief.
'There are two sides to mourning: laughter and grief. And I tell stories about how it pertains to me.
'What did Steve Jobs mean when he died saying, "Oh wow, oh wow, oh wow!"?'
One of his anecdotes is how his menswear retailer father wanted a simple funeral, so William bought a pine coffin and bragged to his sister about how cheap it was, with his sibling retorting, 'Was it used?'
He said: 'That leads us to all sorts of talk about love, because grief is the parting of love.
'The subjects are related — at least in my mind — and so the audience is held in a web of words for about two hours, if you will.'
This really was under the radar about the theater showings tonight. I've seen The Shat many times and he is coming to the Motor City Comic Con next month too.
I heard him promoting ot on the Nerdist Podcast and on Twitter. This was the same show I saw last year in Mesa, AZ, it was terrific.
Looks like this is playing in a theater local to me. Was it family friendly, Bryan? I might bring my kids (since the wife is off to her book club tonight).
