Title: BSG Movie

Not sure how I feel about this - although any movement is welcome I suppose:

Universal is preparing to start work on a Battlestar Galactica movie. Variety says the studio is planning to completely reimagine the sci-fi story — in which space-bound humans fend off the attacks of nefarious cybernetic Cylons as they try to find a new home — just five years after the four-season Syfy TV show drew to a close. The planned film would mark the second time Battlestar Galactica has been rebooted after the original show aired in 1978.

Jack Paglen, the writer of the upcoming Transcendence, has agreed to pen the reboot's screenplay. Paglen is a hot property for studios wanting to create sci-fi at the moment: he's also slated to write Ridley Scott's Prometheus sequel. Glen Larson, who worked on the 1970s TV series, will produce the film, but there's no confirmation yet on who'll take on the role of director. Bryan Singer was originally attached to a Battlestar Galactica movie project in 2011, but the production was put on hold in 2013 after the director committed to working on new X-Men movies. Having agreed to direct 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse, Singer is unlikely to have time to work on developing a new Battlestar.

Well, original series BSG fans felt the same way about the Ron Moore reboot and I would say that tunred out amazing, so perhaps we should be optimistic.

I'm optimistic, though this is sort of confusing even to me.

It's called Universal studios desperately looking around their portfolio for something to compete with Marvel/Disney/LucasFilm.

Right, I don't mean confusing from a business perspective, this is a guaranteed moneymaker even if it isn't any good. I mean from a fan perspective. They aren't rebooting something from 20 years ago, Ron Moore BSG was virtually just on the air.

They are rebooting something from 30+ years ago. They aren't rebooting the Ron Moore take.

Exactly. I think this is not being well understood.

Bryan, I am just PO'd that resources are being taken away from my long waited for Logan's Run reboot..  :)

I would welcome more activite in the Moore-verse.  Just wonderding why a reboot is called for so soon.  But I guess it worked for Spider Man..

No, it's understood. I just think a lot of people will not realize it. For a lot of people, there is no original BSG. Just the Moore version.

I am all for a reboot that is more action based and more inline with the Original. But I also think, that this could be a flop, given that a lot of people relate to the Ron Moore version, that the majority would reject this movie if it is not in that vein, so I can see what Joe is saying in that they might be confused or have a different expectation, 30 years was a long time ago. I hope I am wrong, but just seems like a doomed project to me.

I would suggest the main stream movie audience isn't that well informed about either series.

There is only so much they can do in a movie - or even a series of movies. For example, if they just do a movie showing the Cyclons wiping out the colonies that will pretty much be the whole film. I think much like Trek, BSG works better on TV. But, of course I hope they can give us a cool film to see.

The approach will be interesting. Avoiding spending half a film cramming in back story for the uninitiated will be the main trick, I think.

I'll be sure to watch at any rate.  Personally I would rather see some other SciFi books\shows brought to the big screen - rather than another reboot so close to the last.
