Title: Podcast # 458 - "Affliction"
Post by: Rico on October 13, 2013, 09:52:21 AM
Covered this 4th season Enterprise episode called "Affliction" today on the show.  Did a short, spoiler-free review of "Gravity."  Also covered some of the recent news for "Star Wars", Trek and other genre shows & films.  Have a new musical segment from Vartok too (thanks Mr. V.).  Enjoy the cast everyone!

Enjoyed it, thanks Rico! I agree, I love that they addressed the forehead ridges issue. They did a great job with it. Aah, so behind on movies. I so badly want to see Gravity.

Early in the show you mention Chase Masterson will be in something called R.U.R Genesis. This is based on a very interesting Sci if play from the 1920s by Karel Capek. I read it in high school, r.u.r. Stands for Rossum's Universal Robots. The play is relevant because it actually introduced the term "robot" to the English language.

Had no idea it was based on something that old. I did watch the video with Chase. It's more of a trailer but is fun. You can see it on YouTube.

I also liked how this episode explained the ridges issue. There are also a couple of books covering this issue.

I'm running a couple of weeks behind at the moment so I'm halfway through this now. Rather nicely, my On Demand rematch of a Enterprise reached this point this week too so I've actually seen it quite recently.

Enjoying the podcast so far and I loved the fact that the show went to the bother of trying to explain the ridges (or lack thereof). Such an attempt is bound to have a few believability issues but I give them full marks for what was a very good attempt to bring this into canon.

As a brief follow up, why on earth did they have the pulsing 'warp rods' on the bridge of the Columbia? I thought that was a really strange set decision.

My only thought was to make the bridge obviously different from Enterprise.
