Hi Rico! Hi TSF guys and gals. Angela and I had an Anomaly Podcast booth last year at Austin Comic Con, and we're working on getting one this year too (Nov 22, 23, 24). Are any of you going? We'd love to meet you. We still won't know for a month or so if we will be granted another table (fingers crossed), but we'll be there nonetheless, especially since William Shatner will be in attendance! Good grief, last year we saw Patrick Stewart, this year Shatner? Maybe we should retire from cons after this, as we would have seen the heavy weights of geek fandom. ;) That said, Stan Lee and Jewel Staite, among others, will be there. Hopefully Kaylee will find it in her heart to give us a liner for our show.
Because the Shat will be at Austin Comic Con, Angela and I will be cosplaying with a group of our friends as TOS officers. Kasey, from Anomaly Supplemental, as well as two of our best friends, Jen and Stephanie, who are always in our vidcasts, will make up our band of Anomalous miniskirts.
Last year's Austin Comic Con was our first major convention. We didn't cosplay the entire time, we wore our Anomaly Shirts and came away feeling like we should have dressed up more. It would not only be more fun to cosplay, but Angela and I, having studied the other booths around us, feel like it would also entice more folks (guys and gals) to stop to talk with us. We figure having a BIG group like ours, all dressed in coordinating outfits, would make people curious. :) Don't get me wrong, people talked to us last year, but because we were dressed like drug reps in our uber professional Anomaly button down shirts, people thought we were selling something, if they didn't automatically recognize our show.
Here's the reason for my warning: because we're Anomalies (a blend of girly and geeky) we're very excited about the 60's hair and make up portion of our TOS cosplay. One friend, Jen, is a hair and make-up artist, so we're in good hands. We already started a Pinterest board and have pretty much decided on hair styles. Pinterest is addicting.
We're also looking for as many affordable TOS props as we can get our hands on. Angela and I have TOS communicators and I think she has a tribble. But I'm thinking of getting a Geological Tricorder. I found one for a fairly good price, by Diamond Select. Have any of you purchased this? Is it any good? I don't want a piece of junk, but I'm not looking for Grade A quality either.
And by that token, have any of you bought this TOS duty uniform dress? Angela and I are both buying red since it's our podcast colors and we're going to have our picture taken with the Shat, so we want to coordinate. See? Girly geeky. :D Our other friends are opting for blue or gold.

Diamond Select/Art Asylum is your best bet fro props. I have an extra tricorder that the lights and sound don't work that I can contribute to your cosplay if you or one of the gals pays the shipping. :)
Oh yeah, Avanos rocks... sort of out of our price range though. Cosplay Sky is where we're thinking of buying. They sell the dress posted above. We had a chance to examine the quality of their First Contact/Nemisis duty uniforms while we were at Comic Con last year (we made friends with the Trek costume clubs in the booths near ours). They were very nice and the guys really liked them. Just didn't see anyone in a TOS dress from Cosplay Sky. If we had the time, I think I'd by a pattern from Roddenberry.com. I bought TNG uniform patterns from the show, off that site. Angela has yet to make them. :)

Rico, if you come down we'll let you hang out at our booth. It was good to have a home base at the con, not only because we could meet and greet and people watch, but because we could stash our snacks and backpack and rest our feet. :)

On a separate note, I just ordered the Diamond Select geology tricorder, with a phaser, for 21 bucks on Amazon. Pretty good deal, especially since I see just the tricorder all over the place for about 60. The price differences between venders is so weird. Are they price gouging?

I just got my tricorder and phaser. I had to laugh after I heard myself say "DON'T BREAK MOMMY'S PHASER, AARON!!!!" You don't hear that everyday, and I am an Anomaly.

Diamond Select makes some nice Star Trek props, so I am sure they will go well with your costume.
Yep, they will go nicely with the TOS communicator Angela's mom bought for us on a trip to Vegas before Star Trek the Experience closed. :) I have to keep that on a high shelf because Aaron is enamored with it.

Angela and other Jen, from here on out to be known as "Sith Jen" (not me, my friend), have not received their TOS costumes yet. Cross your fingers, they were so busy making a wedding gown for our best friend that they had to wait until the last minute to order their dresses. Jen got a notice saying her order shipped, but Angela is still waiting. It may just be me and you Rico.

I posted this on the Anomaly Facebook Group Oct. 31st... I wore it to work for Halloween. My company hosted a costume contest and my friend from IT, who dressed as Indiana Jones, tied with me for last place. Go us! LOL
Anyway, hoping Angela and our friend "Sith Jen" get their costumes in. Otherwise it'll just be me and Stephanie dressed up. I forgot that she received hers a few weeks before me.
Angela just bolted into my office to tell me she and Sith Jen ordered, as a back up, Anovos TOS dresses and paid extra to have them shipped overnight. DUDE, that is commitment. If they get their less expensive dresses in on time, then they'll just return the mega expensive awesome ones. I kind of hope that happens, so that they save money and don't one up me in the costume department. :D

Angela got her dress on time! Because she was worried that the CosplaySky.com dress wouldn't get here before con (it's tailor-made, shipped from overseas and she waited until the last minute to order), she "bit the bullet" and bought an Anovos TOS skant dress as "Plan B". To her GREAT relief, they both came in on the same day and she was able to compare the two. She'll do a little report on that at some point. Anyway, she's sending the Anovos dress back. Angela decided to keep the Cosplay Sky dress for a number of reasons; they both fit the same, but oddly, the lesser expensive dress was nicer. The emblem was nicer, the fabric was breathable and just as nice, and it was made with all the same details plus a few that are there purely for modesty...like a hidden layer behind the flap in the skirt so your bloomers don't show when you bend over. Mind you, we know that the Anovos dress is screen accurate and that the bloomers SHOULD show when you bend over, but we're not exhibitionists. The Cosplay Sky dress is accurate enough and practical in more than one way. We are very happy with the costumes we ordered from them.
PSA: If you have an event you want to wear a costume to... don't do what Angela did and wait until the very last minute. :D She was lucky it worked out.

I'm having a blast at the Austin Comic Con. So cool meeting Jen, Angela, her husband Jim, the 'other' Jen, and all the rest of the Anomaly peeps! Here's just a brief sample of day one. Today is our big day in full TOS costumes. Much more to come!
And here's a fuzzy phone pic a few minutes after Jen and I met up for the first time. I look like a goof as I tried to bend down my 6' 4" frame. Jen said, "you're much taller in person." LOL!

Meds - it would have been great to have you here. You would not believe how much fun it was to watch the Doctor Who 50th with such a great crowd, Kasey and all the rest. We cheered when each character appeared for the first time on the screen. It's been a very long time since I've watched something like that with such a great audience. Everyone was so into it. Just an amazing 50th anniversary episode and to see it here was something truly special.

It was completely epic! I can't even say how great it was to meet everyone and "geek out" over the past three days. The costumes, the pictures, 3-D posing, the panels, the Doctor, the goodies, the Book (Angela), the food, the FUN, etc. But the very best part was getting to spend time with Jen, Angela, Jim, Kasey, "other Jen", Stephanie and Jeff. Rico, did you take those pics yourself with the SX50? If so I am wondering about your settings because when I click on them and look at them full size they look pretty pixelated. I've seen tons of pics from that camera before and not seen that issue. Did you compress them using a photo program that compromised the images? I'm not being critical but I'm just curious since photos are part of what I do every day for a living.

Kevin - the pictures have been adjusted using software to compress and fit them better here. Keep in mind this is a mix of pics from sources and many done very much on the fly.

BTW, here are some more pics. I already shared them on Facebook, but not everyone on the boards follows us there. These are a few of my favorites. The ones with the Gorn and with me and Rico posing like movie stars are at the top of that list.
JUST WAIT until you see the 360 images we had done. OMG, that was one of the highlights of this con for me. That and meeting Rico. :D They haven't sent us the images yet, but as soon as they do we will post them somewhere, I promise. We were like rock stars after that, LOL.
I did an interview with the owner of the company. I'll post that as a video as soon as they send us the images. I want them to be apart of the interview.
I think - in keeping with the whole swinging 60's Trek thing - you should have been under one of those huge old massive hair dryers - both leafing through magazines at the old 'Beauty Parlor'. :)

That's the truth! Not to mention working with various file formats and working out ways to turn a less than a second animated .gif file into usable video. (Oh, I found a way).
I am now using Final Cut Pro X for my video stuff and it is pretty cool. But you ARE RIGHT. Video is intensive for sure.
Got it pretty much done! Trying the first render of it all now. About a 45 min. show. I'll probably put a smaller version in the feed and try to upload a better, higher res. version to Vimeo.

Angela and I are FINALLY recording our commentary tomorrow night. I'm going to be putting the video together in the days following in an attempt to upload to our feed by Christmas. It will be different from Rico's, but we really liked his music video so I'll be including one of our own. It's not as heartfelt and awesome as Rico's, it's more cheeky and self deprecating and includes a Flight of the Conchords song.
