And the reboot train keeps-a-rollin', all night long! I was somewhat intrigued by T:Savation, and would have enjoyed a follow up, but oh well. The timeline had gotten very screwy anyway. So now this is added to the mega-crowded 2015 slate.
Skydance Productions, Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures have jointly announced they will partner on a rebooted "TERMINATOR" movie, to be released by Paramount Pictures on June 26, 2015.
The first in a stand-alone trilogy, "TERMINATOR" will be produced by Megan Ellison of Annapurna and David Ellison of Skydance. Dana Goldberg and Paul Schwake of Skydance will serve as executive producers. Laeta Kalorgridis ("Avatar," "Shutter Island") and Patrick Lussier ("Drive Angry") are attached to write the screenplay.
Launched in 1984 with star Arnold Schwarzenegger as the title character, "TERMINATOR" spanned 3 subsequent films, which have earned over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
David Ellison most recently executive produced, along with his partners at Paramount, "World War Z," "Star Trek Into Darkness," "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" and "Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol". A 5th installment of in the "Mission: Impossible" franchise is in active development, along with a 3rd film in the "G.I. Joe" franchise, among other films.
Megan Ellison most recently produced the Academy Award®-nominated "Zero Dark Thirty," "The Master" and executive produced "Spring Breakers" via her Annapurna Pictures banner and has David O. Russell's "American Hustle," Spike Jonze's "Her," and Bennett Miller's "Foxcatcher" set for release later this year.

I can see this being a good idea. Classic T1 and T2 are awesome films but a new take would be fun.
Somehow Rebooting Terminator makes me feel old, to think that 30 years have gone by since the original, and they are going to redo it. Most of the reboots that they had done before were of things before I was born, or I was very young.
I'm behind this. This is an action franchise with special effects so if all benefit from a reboot in the modern era of movie technology. Just don't bring Arnold back in the role unless he is totally CGI.

I'm sure there will be some sort of Arnold tribute or nod, but I'm betting this will be its own monster. It definitely deserves a modern makeover, I absolutely love the first one and how gritty it was, and the second one is probably top 3 sequels ever. Love this franchise.

I suppose they could make him one of the engineers working on the project a bit like the deleted scene from T3.
This could be done well, but all the same I don't really support this notion.
Hollywood has grown too too dependent on the easy development and cash that remaking recognizable properties brings. While good versions have come from it, the cannibalistic cycle is ultimately bad for the creativity and business ends of the industry. In order to have successful properties to remake, there needs to be resources risked on new things.
Far as Terminator in particular goes, I don't really see that the original story calls for a remake. Much more promising to me is further expansion of the Terminator universe.
Heck, if studios have so much money to fling at remakes, surely they must be able to wrangle the movie rights to Dark Horse Comics' better-than-it-had-any-right-to-be RoboCop vs Terminator story. THAT I'd pay to see done seriously.
