A great guest cast coming your way this week with Rick, Jeff, and Bryan covering other ships in Starfleet. Here are some notes from them about this show:
This weeks podcast is guest hosted by Rick, Bryan and Jeff and they talk about the other ships of Starfleet not named Enterprise. They cover ships such as Voyager, Reliant and many more. They go into details of the different classes of ships, what they like about them and other facts surrounding the ships. They also dig into some of the behind the scenes details on how the ships were designed and used in the Movies and TV programs, and some other trivia surrounding the ships. They also get into some discussion on Star Trek Into Darkness and give some thoughts on the movie. They also discuss some of the ships for the new Star Trek movies, and talk about the USS Enterprise, USS Kelvin and USS Vengeance. Rick, Bryan and Jeff will be back for a future podcast to cover off Star Trek Alien ships, so keep your hailing frequencies open for that.
Thanks guys for doing this and enjoy the podcast everyone!

:thumbsup :thumbsup ;D Friggin' awesome podcast! I can't get enough of this starship talk. It's one of my favorite aspects of the trek universe. I've got geeky-ass friends but NONE of them would ever go this deep with me on ship design stuff, I'm sure many of you can relate. That's why I'm thankful for this forum and podcast. Looking forward to the next ships episode!
Thank you so much! We had a great time doing it as well, more to come!
Looking foward to this one guys. Really enjoyed the last one.
well i love any show talking about starships. i used to build models, but i ran out of space in "the cave".
great show guys, i just wish i had listened sooner. but i will be posting on the forums.
i loved the show, looking for the next show now, lol.
i am glad i am not the only star trek gear head.
Great podcast, you guys! I love talking about starships. It's good to hear that someone else digs the Excelsior class starship. It's one of my favorites. I love its Art Deco look.
About 3/4 of the way though, totally loving this one guys. Amazing talk about one of my favourite Trek topics!
Great show, love ship talk. :-)
Had a great time listening to this, and when you guys were talking about the Vengeance's speed, you said that if it was 3 times as fast, it would travel Warp 24. But the warp scale is exponential, so using this http://www.anycalculator.com/warpcalculator.htm (http://www.anycalculator.com/warpcalculator.htm) warp calculator:
Warp 8=1024 x the speed of light (c)
Warp 9=1516.38 x the speed of light
Warp 9.5=2548.24 x the speed of light
Warp 9.63= 3098 x the speed of light
So the Vengeance's top speeds are about Warp 9.63, using the TNG era warp scale. Not crazy, but more in line with the ships in TNG, not TOS. That's pretty geeky, sorry.
Thanks for the comments guys, happy you liked the podcast.
Thanks for the clarification on the Warp speeds Chris. That makes a lot of sense, I was actually talking to a co worker about that today, so will let him know tomorrow that it should be more in line with TNG era speeds
I really enjoyed listening to the Ships episode. I thought to myself, listen to these guys, how geeky can you get. Until I remembered a day later that I, uhhh, built my own Type 15 shuttlepod 20 years ago in my basement for my kids. Now who is geeky? Oh boy.
Here are some pics. Alas it has since been dismantled to become a storage room. But the kids loved playing video games and doing overnights in it. It had a door on pneumatic lifters, a foldown bunk bed, an Atari 1200 system with game cartridges, a working phone, and lots of buttons and switches to make things light up. And it was named the Armstrong, after Neil of course.

I had this at the back of my mind when i was listening to the warp speed discussion. It does look like they are using the more refined TNG warp speed scale. I am to recall that they went over warp 10 a couple of times in TOS.
That is awesome, Vartok!
Vartok - that's great!!
I would use one of those shuttle craft now Vartok! Really Cool!
That is a cool Shuttle craft, I would have loved one when I was a kid, actually I think I still would like one :)
That's very cool, Vartok! i would have loved one of those as a kid.
I just listend to the podcat the other day. Great podcast guys, not sure which ship is my favorite but I guess I'm partial to the shuttle craft shown in TOS. I think I remember putting together a model of the Galileo when I was a kid in the 70's.

And isn't it correct that under the tng scale, warp 10 would technically be infinite speed? Meaning the ship would be in every point of the universe at the same instant?
And if that is the case, that voyager episode with warp 10 wouldn't make much sense.....

Yeah, that was always silly to me. Yes, Warp 10 is infinite speed...on that scale. Isn't that what happened in Where No One Has Gone Before?
I'm behind on my listening but I just got to the Ships podcast. Loved it!!! Now you have to do another one on weapons, or space stations, or other tech. :)
Vartok- that is really incredible! I want to build one for my daughter now. Currently, she had a little space ship made of a cardboard box, but I'm thinking I she gets older I should upgrade to something better.
Great cast guys, thanks! I just caught up on this one today (I am behind!).
So am I! I'm so looking forward to this but haven't got there yet :(
Thanks! You will enjoy it Mike!!!

Oh was it? I forgot about that, it's been a forever since I watched that episode. 'It's been a long time.....'
From the breakdown at Memory Alpha...
As the ship accelerates, both Kosinski and his assistant enter various information. Suddenly a console alarm goes off and Kosinski shouts at the assistant, who has made an error. Outside the ship, the Enterprise's engines suddenly engage with a massive burst of speed. The assistant grabs his console and starts to "phase" in and out of view, noticed only by Wesley.
On the bridge, La Forge tells the captain they are passing warp 10, and Data later says that their velocity is off the scale. The Enterprise hurtles through space, with phenomena whizzing past at extremely high speed. Picard orders that they reverse engines (which Data comments on as having never been done at their current speed), and the Enterprise flashes out of warp. When asked for the ship's position, La Forge replies incredulously that they have traveled 2,700,000 light years.
They are now in the M-33 Galaxy, and at maximum warp it will take them over 300 years to get home. Kosinski, Riker and Argyle arrive on the bridge. Picard asks them what happened and Kosinski replies that he made "a mistake, a wonderful mistake". He is highly excited, claiming he has broken the warp barrier and that his name will go down in history. However, hearing the procedure that Kosinski used, Commander Riker isn't convinced.
Lols, passing warp 10.
I should watch that one again. Now that I've finally finished Enterprise, might be time to put TNG back in rotation

...and indeed I did. Thanks.
If you guys ever want to branch off and do a Star Wars ships cast I'd be happy to participate.
Oh, that sounds fun Joe
Catching up on TSF podcasts this week and really loved this episode. I love the banter and descriptions, perfect podcast gents.
so glad you liked it!!!
This was really good guys. Can't wait for your next one. My favorite alien ship is the TNG era Romulan warbird. Love it!! I was so disappointed they didnt use one in the Nemesis movie.
Thanks for all the kind comments everyone. These ship ones are a lot of fun

We were discussing doing Star War Ships later in the year after we finish our Trek series. The more the merrier on the podcasts :) Probably another 3 podcast series in The Imperials, The Rebels and Prequels/Other non affiliated.
