Title: Podcast # 437 - "Into Darkness"
Post by: Rico on May 19, 2013, 01:09:54 PM
The new podcast (vidcast) is now up.  We discuss the new film in depth and detail (spoilers abound).  Thanks to everyone that took the time to send in clips.  The show is a little more than an hour long and the file size is big (about 657 meg).  I even compressed it down a lot.  I'll probably also upload a higher quality version soon too if you want to download that mega-size file.  Anyway, here you go.  Enjoy!

The wife and I both watched this and we both liked hearing what everybody had to say about the movie. It was funny how much we agreed with alot of what was said. I still give the movie a 10 and she gives it a 9.
And I still need to know who those characters were that had the mechanical voices on the bridge.

Great video cast!  I enjoyed listening to everyone's thoughts on the movie.  I saw it Friday evening and really enjoyed it.  I was a little disappointed at first,  when I found out that Khan was the bad guy.   I got over it quickly once I got into the movie.  It was a great movie and I look forward to seeing it again.   Matter of fact, I'm going to see it again with my grandson soon this week.

I meant to mention this in my video, although I said it I think twice a year or two ago on the main ID thread...I was almost 100% certain that the villain was
Khan way back when they first cast Benecio Deltoro in the role. It seemed like he was perfect casting for another take on Khan, and at the time i couldnt imagine him as any other part.  When they recast the part, i was already convinced that Khan was in the movie and i couldnt envision any scenario where they would change the script because the actor was replaced.  As good as BC is in this movie, I can't help but feel that Benecio would have been just exactly perfect.
That was awesome! I enjoyed the movie thoroughly. And while I do see the gripes that you guys had with the movie, I did enjoy it very much.

I almost spit coffee all over my computer when I saw the faces my daughter was making during my recording.  It was so funny I had to leave it all in.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who contributed to the vidcast!  I thoroughy enjoyed hearing everyone's opinions and the various aspects of the movie that caught your attention.

I have seen the movie twice, once on Wednesday's IMAX 3D premiere and again on Saturday morning.  I really enjoyed it on its own merit (and timeline).  There were a few plot issues in the movie, but they did not distract from my enjoyment of the story.

I have already placed my pre-order on Amazon. LOL

I hadn't followed the movie news or forums these past weeks until I could see it.
And just got back from the 3D version with it all still fresh in my mind so here goes...

Loved the 3D effects. they are an added plus.
Liked Pikes grey sideburns - reminded me of Gene Roddenberry as he got older.

The Enterprise under water? Is it a submarine too? Meh, whatever moves the story along, no biggie - but what a story, fast and fun! I'm okay with Khan as this movie turned out to feature after all.
As a matter of fact I wouldn't mind if they revisited more TOS episodes. They mentioned acquiring Harry Mud's shuttle craft and we saw another tribble so I wouldn't be surprised.

Wonder what Spock's motivation was to meld with Pike upon his death?
That part seemed a little morbid and reminded me of how unhealthy Bester's keen fascination with bonding at death turned out for him, but that was B5 and I digress.

Now that he's more emotional, 'new Spock' isn't as distant or stoic as Spock prime...who I thought had a nice cameo when he briefly grounded us to the danger of Khan's presence.
Spock Prime: "Remember my rule about not influencing your destiny? Well your in some serious sh**...."

I expected the Klingons to be taller and not hidden behind those masks again.

Peter Weller was awesome as always.
As an encore I'm going to watch him as the evil industrialist John Paxton in the two part story of Trip and T'Pol's love child on Enterprise next.

I plan on seeing this at least once more at the theater and hope it's not another four years for the next one.

I just watched the vidcast.  it was great.  I have not seen the movie yet but I'm not bothered by the plot spoilers.  It just makes me want to see it even more.  the vidcast preformed flawlessly on my laptop, normally I have some issues when I have watched a vidcast before, I think maybe because I recently up dated my iTunes player.  I will probably see the movie sometime latter on this year, redbox rental maybe.
