Looking forward to checking out this new series on the A&E channel, premiering tonight at 10pm EDT. It covers the teenage years of Robert Bloch's and Alfred Hitchcock's famous creation Norman Bates, with Vera Famiga (a wonderful actress) playing the part of Norman's mother Norma. She's decidedly less thin in this than she appeared in the original film. As a big fan of the original I'm hoping this is good and does well.

Well two episodes in and I'm not feeling it. I'm going to give Rico's "three episode" rule a try and if it doesn't grab me by the end of the third ep I'm done. The first episode featured a brutal, thoroughly disgusting rape scene that came out of nowhere and really turned me off. There's a few redeeming elements I've seen so far, the best of which is a developing friendship between teenaged Norman and a high school classmate with cystic fibrosis named Emma.
Anyone else seen it yet? I think it's streaming for free on the A&E web page.
I've been tempted to give it a look. The cast looks good I'm just not sure about the subject matter to me. I got turned off by American Horror Story too after a few episodes. Not sure I am up for another series about psychotic people.
Yes, well I have such a fondness for the original Hitchcock film that I felt I had to give this a shot. So far I've been nothing but disappointed.
Speaking of American Horror Story, did you catch any of season 2? It was a huge improvement over the first season and in fact I enjoyed almost every minute of it. I think you would really like it Rico, skip season 1 and watch season 2 if you get a chance.
I quit watching American Horror Story in season one. I didn't really like any of the characters. Maybe I'll give season two a try sometime.
Me too, season 1 was terrible, but I'm telling you season two was completely different, way better.
