So is someone STILL going to argue that all these "alternate take" fairytale movies coming out are just a coincidence, they were all planned years ago and are not just jumping on the cash cow / band wagon / trends? Sheesh.

Not quite sure what you mean? Are you just saying we are getting more of them currently? I've been reading the Grimm Fairy Tales comic series for many years now - way before the current crop of TV and movies came about.
I have to get cracking on my re-imagining of Rapunzel...

I mean a couple of shows / movies of this genre get green lit now it seems every fairytale is going to get retold in this fashion. Just starting to feel like people are trying to cash in a little :)
I guess that's sort of the case, but of course fairy tales of many kinds have been around a very long time and really make a good source for movies & tv (think of all the Disney animated movies we have gotten over the years in this area). I just judge them on a case by case basis. If it looks good, I'll check it out.
Oh yeah - definitely planning to see this.
Yeah I think this will be the first movie I see this year. I wanted to see Hanzel and Gretel but I don't think I'm going to make it out there for that one.
I'm holding out for "Humpty Dumpty: Wall Demolitionist" ;)
New international poster.
This and even more so the forthcoming "Oz" are more interesting to me as reimaginings because they seem more appropriate for kids, with stuff included to keep parents and other grownups interested. Hanzel and Gretyl was not this. Just makes more sense for the properties to keep them family friendly. It's a shame and a missed opportunity for "Witch Hunters".
Saw this movie today with Mark and enjoyed it. Fun retelling of a classic story. I thought the cast did a good job too. Quite a good crowd seeing it, many families with their kids. Cool and fun movie.
Good to hear as they reviews haven't been so hot.

Bryan, you should know by now that I don't listen to reviews. I make up my own mind - as everyone should. :)
I do want to see this but probably won't catch it at the theater with Oz coming out next weekend. There just isn't enough time in the day sometimes.
Ouch, tracking for a $27.8 million opening weekend. Although I thought it looks like fun, the marketing for the film has been all over the place. Is it Lord of the Rings/Hobbit or Escape to Narnia? They marketed it towards kids but got a PG-13 rating and reviews say it's not intense enough to draw in the teen/young male audience. So it's in marketing limbo and being compared to John Carter. I also heard complaints about the quality of the CGI, how did it look to you guys?
I just wanted to see Ewan, haven't seen him in anything since ROTS it seems!
Ewan was fantastic in "the Impossible". An extremely moving performance, even though Naomi Watts got all the acclaim.
Bad news for Warners and this movie, reports are box office is expected to top out at 65 million and the budget all told was around 300 million including marketing
