And I'm back. With permission, I've opened a new thread about the stuff I publish on the Interwebs. I haven't done much since I left for vacation and life got all sorts of unfun, but lately I've gotten back to it so I'm keeping myself busy now.
Published my thoughts on the 4th batch of Greenlight games that were approved earlier this week.
http://kingisaaclinksr.wordpress.com/2013/01/19/kings-greenlight-musing-on-the-fourth-batch-of-games-approved/ (http://kingisaaclinksr.wordpress.com/2013/01/19/kings-greenlight-musing-on-the-fourth-batch-of-games-approved/)
I also published a trailer for the next Let's Play I'm going to putting up on my YouTube channel soon, "Cthulhu Saves the World".

Enjoy!
Doing a Portal 2 Co-Op series with my and a few other peoples' here's friend, Gareth Edwards soon. We'll be exploring the co-op campaign of the game as well as puzzles found in the Steam Workshop. I put together a trailer for it and we'll be starting it up soon.

Blogging wise, I've been busy and I've only been publishing the random Personal Musing, so I'll link the latest here while I'm here: King's Personal Musing 1/29/13: Portal 2 Co-Op Series, iPads and MS's Surface Cost Too Much and more...
I talk about schoolwork lately, some notes about the blog and a bunch of other stuff.

Enjoy!
Sounds interesting :-)
Thanks Tim, I'm out doing field work till Friday but I'll check it out then.
Happy Valentines Day from A Paladin Without A Crusade...!
College has been pretty rough so I haven't done much for the past couple of weeks, but here is what I have put out: (these are playlists)
An episode of Portal 2:
[embed=425,349]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CWW7PUzWb8&feature=share&list=PLNshVYBDrnPKiNYBQMOOKYQvXPxhlfwdZ[/embed]
and two episodes of Cthulhu Saves the World:

The blog has had intermittent Personal Musings published but nothing of much significance. As I said, rough times at college has delayed posts that should have been done by now so, yeah. My life. =\. You can check out the latest posts here: www.kingisaaclinksr.wordpress.com (http://www.kingisaaclinksr.wordpress.com)

Ok, good to know. The friends who I know that were interested in picking this up have told me they are either not going to touch it or wait for a really good steam sale. Which there will probably be one next month considering how poorly the game did in reviews lol.
There are guys over at the RPF who are big ALIEN fans and playing the game and really enjoying it. Those guys I actually know and tend to listen to them then the faceless bloggers online looking to nake noise and drive eyeballs.

If you trust their judgement, fine. I don't, so I have to have my sources to find impressions and thoughts on these games. If they, the people you trust, enjoy the game, great. But I've seen enough gameplay footage to avoid this game. I'll still be interested to hear your thoughts on it.
Also, my sources aren't faceless bloggers. They have faces, names and everything. They aren't doing this to get a ton of eyes for no reason. At least, if they are, then so is the rest of the Internet but I find that hard to believe.

I'd be inclined to say that fans would be less likely to give an impartial opinion on the game than "faceless bloggers". They'll be wrapped in the universe to much whereas experienced gamers can stand back and look at the other elements that make up the game. The thing is these franchise based games are most likely going to have a much larger percentage purchased by the fans than general gamers anyway so most likely it will do well regardless.

Exactly. I rarely play games and have little to judge their relative quality beyond my user experience, which is limited. So what I hear from ALIEN fans who are gamers is that it's fun, not perfect, but not to bad. I'm not even a gamer, so I am inclined to think this will put a smile on my face.
Gearbox is now getting accusations of false advertising thrown at them due to the demo they showed back in October of 2012. While I will grant that demos do not necessarily represent the final product of a game, the glaring differences between the demo shown and the final product make me wonder if the demo was a CGI-rendered video. I mean, the final product just looks awful compared to the demo. I want to play the demo, not what was eventually released. So yeah, beginning to really understand the unhappy people now.
Video below shows footage Gearbox displayed in October 2012 and the Final game. Best to watch in 720p on a big screen.

Possibly they had the budget cut or something and had to cut corners? Hmmm...
Or it could just be the video settings. The image looks good if not a bit gray
I have played this game on the 360...the fan service in it is fine, I like the Legendary weapons and the nods to Aliens. The story is just OK, the twist is ridiculous, considering Fox has said this is a canonical sequel. There is TONS of graphic pop in, this game looks to be about 6 years old visually. I love Aliens, but I'm also a gamer. And the A.I. in this game is HORRENDOUSLY BAD. The xenos are not stealthy, and never feel like a real threat. And you spend much of the game not fighting Xenos AT ALL. I'm not playing an Aliens game to fight humans for half of it. And the human A.I. isn't any better than the xenos. Multiplayer can be fun. It's a good rental, but the quality is far and away not indicative of the length of the development process at all. It's an O.K. rental, but not the Aliens game I've been waiting for, that is one that is a good game, not just servicing its core audience.
Look at the Batman Arkham games, awesome fan service and wonderful gameplay, and cool story. You should be able to have a license and expand the fan base with an awesome game.

Its not the graphics that we're just pointing out though, the gameplay elements from the demo and the final product are no where near the same. Watch the turret section. The final game has you sitting there doing nothing while the demo has a huge blasting section with the xenos. Its things like that.

I get what you're saying, but we don't know what part of the story they took that scene from and when the aliens were coming. I think it's hard to judge that when we do't have the context for the scene.
I have the PC version and will start playing tonight. Someone over at the RPF posted screen grabs of the pC version and I think it looks great.
From what I understand the PC graphics are WAY better than the console version, so there's that at least.
OK playing right now and I think the graphics look really good. Keep in mind I am playing on a 1 year old iMac not set up as a gaming desktop and running Windows 7 in my partition drive but it's smooth and vibrant. I love sneaking around the Sulaco. Getting used to the controls, playing the Soldier difficulty. Aliens have made me jump a few times. They aren't the sharpest tools in the shed but I have been killed twice. So far I am having fun!
Oh, and make sure you close the doors behind you.

Then the graphic comparisons must be coming from the console versions. Which would make sense, since the PS3 and Xbox 360 are 7+ years old and can't handle the same graphic intensity that PCs can. Its why I wish Microsoft and Sony would hurry the heck up and release the next-gen consoles.
*continues to ponder*
What I will concede that others have said so far is the xeno AI is limited and the Alien blood should hurt more. :) But when you fight other Marines, they are very clever.
Been a while since I posted an actual review and this is my shortened review of Miasmata:
http://kingisaaclinksr.wordpress.com/2013/02/23/kings-shortened-review-miasmata/ (http://kingisaaclinksr.wordpress.com/2013/02/23/kings-shortened-review-miasmata/)
The first game in a long time to completely break my immersion of it. Yeah...enjoy!
New stuffs!
My Greenlight Musings series continues with the 5th group of games approved to show up on Steam. Feels a bit heavy on the RPG side though...

Gareth and I continue our Portal 2 series and having lots of fun with it. We also find out that walking through Portals is dangerous...

Finally, I failed something fierce in this latest episode of Cthulhu Saves the World.
[embed=425,349]http://youtu.be/12x1ENioJDc[/embed]
School continues to remain busy but I've been doing this stuff on the side to keep myself sane. Some of this is long overdue for publishing.
Enjoy!
At long last, I finally post my first videogame review of 2013. Its an interesting sidescrolling game with a mix of strategy and platforming genres: A Valley Without Wind 2...
http://kingisaaclinksr.wordpress.com/2013/03/09/kings-videogame-review-a-valley-without-wind-2/ (http://kingisaaclinksr.wordpress.com/2013/03/09/kings-videogame-review-a-valley-without-wind-2/)
I've also been busy overhauling and updating my website for the past couple of weeks. It now has a new design and look with a new home page. Check it out: http://kingisaaclinksr.wordpress.com/ (http://kingisaaclinksr.wordpress.com/)
Enjoy!
I've published a few more vids since last I posted about them:
Latest Portal 2 episode has Gareth and I falling into a bunch of pits. Dunno why that happened this episode, but it did. Its also the first episode where I do not have mic issues.
[embed=425,349]http://youtu.be/sHWZIAcEEKA[/embed]
I also do more exploring in the Heroes dungeon for Cthulhu Saves The World here:

Enjoy
I have a new series up on my channel about this different kind of game called Shattered Haven. Enjoy!
[embed=425,349]http://youtu.be/d-lVPaT7Z20[/embed]
I've also been uploading quite a few Portal 2 and Cthulhu Saves The World episodes since last I posted so you can check those out on my channel here:

Thanks for watching! Nothing really new on the blog front, been focused on this for a while. I'll get back to it soon enough.
And another new, occasionally released series has been started on my channel. This is a series on FTL: Faster Than Light where I focus on the modding community and highlight some great mods that have been created. I've already uploaded two episodes with more to come soon(TM). These episodes are on the Star Trek Universe mod and I get to command the USS Enterprise E. :)

It's back to the blog and school this next week. Yay for Spring Term.

I haven't posted here in this thread since March 31st. Ouch. And I haven't posted on my blog since mid April. Double ouch. The very basic version of why I've been gone is due to college obligations, some serious real-life stuff that I don't want to talk about right now and being just plain busy. Life just hasn't been the same since January... But I'm coming back soon and hopefully stronger than ever. So I wrote a ridiculously long post about my future plans for my internet-related stuff and a few other tidbits.
http://kingisaaclinksr.wordpress.com/2013/06/01/tims-update-about-my-twitter-account-my-youtube-channel-the-blogs-course-and-much-more/ (http://kingisaaclinksr.wordpress.com/2013/06/01/tims-update-about-my-twitter-account-my-youtube-channel-the-blogs-course-and-much-more/)
My channel has been (barely) holding up in the mean time. Been posting more Portal 2 fun with my great friend UKGareth316, more adventures in Cthulhu and Shattered Haven with a light topping of FTL modding experiences of a Star Trek theme. You can check it all out on my channel as I'm not going to link every single vid here. That's just spammy and I think the mods will slap me for doing that ;).
