I found this kind of amusing. I guess if you are going to advertise a "foot long" sub, it better be 12" and not only 11". Come on people - really?

Between that and the fact that Subway has somehow convinced people they are a health food, there deceptive hubris knows no bonds!

I don't know anyone that thinks it's a "health food." But I'd say depending on what you get there it's healthier than a Big Mac. I prefer Jimmy Johns for subs these days.

Just based on the Jerad ad campaign. :)
Subway is a much smarter choice for me than the other fast food places. I can order my sandwich on whole wheat, with spinach, green pepper, onion and pickles... a chicken or veggie sub and it is lower fat and calorie than most things on the menu at other places. PLUS I don't feel like crap after eating there.
Yeah, in comparison to other fast food there's no competition as far as what is more healthy. But nothing beats a real deli sandwich, which Subway isn't.
I say that they should offer ~8% off of the $5 price...
No to get too nutrition geeky but sandwiches made with even whole wheat bread (another nutritional health fantasy, all wheat based products create a glycemic reaction in our bodies of fat production) and and sliced deli meat (loaded with sulfides and preservatives) are categorically unhealthy.
And categorically delicious. I'm a bakers grandson...I love bread!

And you are healthy and not overweight. :) Neither is Rico. There's a genetic predisposition to gaining weight associated with complex carbohydrates (bread, pasta, wheat based products) are converted to sugar and stored as fat. If you don't have that biological adaption wheat in and of itself is ok (still causes internal GI inflammation and the build up with gluten by-products in your gut) but if you are diabetic or sedentary in your lifestyle it's very problematic.
Yeah, I know that bread and carby goodness are generally bad for you. My wife and I have slowly been phasing out foods and drink that we don't want to have anymore. I am 2 months caffeine free! Where's my chip?
This addresses exactly what your talking about...

Congrats on being caffine free Chris!!
Harder than quitting smoking, Dave. Did that 13 years ago.
Believe it or not caffeine, at least in moderation, isn't all that bad for you. Two cups of coffee in the morning is fine. It's drinking it all day or getting it through soda that;s bad. I smoked in my twenties as well but was never really that addicted and quit pretty easily. Good on' ya Chris!
1 inch and everyone goes nuts...
Hey now!

"Size matters not!"
As much as I agree with Bryan about the dubious health benefits of Subway, if they advertise a foot long sandwich, they should supply one.
Here is the problem with that. There is a footlong size and a foot long style. They have been selling footlong style subs from the beginning which is how you can get away with calling something a six inch footlong.
That being said, if the dough was pulled to 12 inches and shrunk in the process, it's still a 12 inch footlong by law because of the prebaking length. Sort of how a quarter pound patty is a quarter pound pre cook weight.
And people freaked out over this issue....*sighs*
Ah yes, I forgot about the pre-cooked length.
I demand that they place a ~ before the foot long moniker. :)
Try our new footlong (+/- 1") sub!

The legal dept should approve that new advert. ;)
Not that I eat there, but I am tempted to go in and offer them $4.58 for their 11".
Some people need to get a life. Weight in food like when you order a steak is pre-cooked weight so a footlong would be pre-baked. I always like a subway and i have it as a treat. Today i hit my goal of losing 5kgs in weight (18 days) so i treated myself to a nice sausage sandwich. Tomorrow I may have a subway and I may say give me extra cheese on my 11 inches and hope not to get arrested lol
Is Medz raining on our mock-a-palooza? I always like to have a side of schadenfreude with my take-out. :)
Congrats on the weight loss.
"I've never seen so many people in an uproar over an inch. Wow," read one Facebook post. "Let's all head to McDonald's and weigh a Quarter Pounder," suggested another poster.
Yeah - I would opt for the 11"

I don't care for Subway that much but my wife loves it. Anyway I get their little pizza's anyway!
