Title: 2013 Academy Awards Contest
Post by: Jobydrone on January 10, 2013, 07:34:08 AM
The Oscar nominations came out today for the best films of 2012, and I'd like to propose our third(?) annual contest for picking the winners this year.  If Rico doesn't mind I'd be happy to give him a break and offer the prize this year: For the person whose picks are the most similar to the Academy voters, I'd like to offer a DVD or Blu-ray copy of one of the nominated films of the winner's choice.  I'm going to throw caution to the wind and open the contest up to everyone who wants to participate this year, since I seem to recall our British compatriots were a little bummed they couldn't participate last year.

Here's the nominees included in the contest, just pick who you think will win in the categories listed below and post them in this thread.  If there's a tie we'll work out the tie breaker in a fair, random way.

1. Best Picture: "Amour," `'Argo," `'Beasts of the Southern Wild," `'Django Unchained," `'Les Miserables," `'Life of Pi," `'Lincoln," `'Silver Linings Playbook," `'Zero Dark Thirty."

Well, at least I have seen "Beasts of the Southern Wild". It wasn't really THAT good, IMO.

I loved Lincoln - hope that wins.

YES!  I have seen exactly zero of the Best Picture nominees!
I heard there is a lot of controversy over some of the over-looked folks this year - especially in the directing category.

P.S.  Joby - feel free to roll with your contest.

I've seen four of the nine best pic nominees:  Argo, Django, Zero Dark Thirty, and Lincoln.  Also seen Wreck It Ralph, Brave, and Paranorman in the animated category, Hobbit, Prometheus, Avengers, and Snow White in visual effects, and Flight in its various categories.

Also, just to clarify, you don't have to have seen all the pics to play...for the purposes of the contest you're just guessing who you think will win, not who you think should win.  Guess away and win a free movie!

We are getting the show and pre-show programing live on one of our movie channels.  Because of the time differences between us, the actually show doesn't start until 1:30am Monday morning here, which is a little past my bed time!  No work tomorrow, so will avoid the news and catch up on the show via Tivo in the morning...can't wait!!  :)

Most of the people doing the interviewing are terrible.  Most of the podcasters I know (including me) could do a much better job.  Plus, they need taller men doing the interviewing.  These guys are all shrimps!

Lets not go nuts here, the structural integrity field on that uniform was going critical. ;)

I enjoyed the show but they really need to start it about 6pm Eastern time! Loved the Shatner part, and Jennifer Garner and Sandra Bullock! I thought Seth did alright. I thought that the James Bond tribute was lacking something even though I did enjoy Bassey singing Goldfinger. And Adele later in the show with 'Skyfall' was very good.

Rico's speech continued:  'A shout out to all the ladies on Risa who helped me through some tough times.  Thanks to the inventor of the agonizer - it helped me gather so much information for my character.  Thanks to Harry Mudd for keeping the wheels moving on the whole operation..."
