Zombies look like ants. Weird!

That trailer makes this look like an original story with the branding of the novel.  I didn't see anything at all recognizable from the book.  Hope it's good, hard book to make a movie from, of course.

You're right. I read that they pretty much tossed out the novel but kept the basic concept and the branding.

The novel was wonderful, a collection of "eyewitness reports" from the Zombie War...hope this is good. Looks weird.

Indeed, the movie is set here in Philly but was filmed in Glasgow, Scotland.

I'll be convinced they are Philly zombies if they put mustard on soft pretzels..  ;)

I saw the movie this morning and have mixed feelings about it!  I think we
have been spoiled by the excellent Walking Dead!
Seeing mixed reviews, some love it some hate it. I'm going to try to go tonight for a late night show.

OK, I went to a 3D matinee today!
I just got back from seeing it and I agree with others that have said it is certainly two different movies. The first half was really fun and tense. From Philly, to Newark, to South Korea, to Jerusalem, were all fantastic action set pieces sort of strung together by the thinnest of narrative. Things happen, for the sake of brevity and to the detriment of the movie when it slows down, where you get quick, convenient situations and character introduction to hustle us along. Like random but REALLY helpful CIA toothless dude, The Mossad guy, and the Soldier leading the troops in South Korea. And I did have a hard time with a 4 engine prop plane traveling from the east coast of the US to South Korea and then on to Israel apparently on two tanks of gas. Must have been designed my Elon Musk.

But despite that, I really liked all of it. When they arrive in Scotland, we hit the breaks and go from an action movie to a haunted house thriller, and this wasn't as good. I felt more tension during the kinetic scenes of the hordes of zombies as opposed to the few in the hallways and rooms they were trying to avoid. And I am glad I knew they are planning a sequel otherwise it just sort of...ends. I didn't miss the gore, I think they danced around that fine. My only gripe about the zombies is the amount of damage they seem to be able to take, like falling from great heights, and still seem ok. I can understand being ramped up on adrenaline can make them fast and super strong but there are limits to the human bodies ability to absorb impacts that no virus can help.

All in all, I had fun, will go and support a sequel, and give it a B-.
Saw this today and enjoyed it quite a bit.  Not read the book at all so didn't know much except what I've seen in the trailers and a few things I read about the film itself.  I'll chat more about it on the podcast tomorrow, but if you like zombies and a different take on things go check this film out.

This bears no resemblance to the book at all. The book is a thoughtful exploration of what the world would be like in a post-apocalyptic scenario...not sating it's not good, but the book and the movie are miles apart.

Yes, but I never read the book.

Yeah, I knew the book was pretty much completely different.  I'd be curious if a few elements got carried over or not.

I saw this yesterday, I would say it was ok, but I found the ending to be a bit obvious.
In the end, it seemed like they were able to solve this through observation, which they could have been done from afar, and then just stormed a research facility to work out the details. The facility they were in at the end, was not really that over run with zombies that a small army could not have taken out. The communications seemed a bit spotty, but seemed conveniently available when needed, so they could have organized something.
I really enjoyed it!  More suspenseful than scary, which I appreciated since it didn't really care to see another gory bloodbath. I thought Brad Pitt did a great job.  Having read the book and loving it, I can say that there's a few nods here and there but it's really nothing like it. The only real similarity is how the book jumps around from place to place across the globe, similar to how the movie does.  It fell apart at the end for me, I thought the last sequence went on too long and wasn't very interesting, but up to the third act I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

I finally got to see this and I must not like Zombies because I'll be honest I was a little spooked by those things. I thought the movie was ok and I'm glad there wasn't a bunch of gore. My favorite part was probably the Israel scenes. I liked the soldier he saved from Israel and they teamed up for the rest of the movie.
And why didn't somebody tell those folks to stop singing. And why would you have a sound system set up anyway! Your fighting zombies not putting on a concert!!
I never read the book, and watched this on Netflix last night (the unrated version - not sure how that differs from the theatrical release).

It was ok, but not great.  I give it a B- (more or less).

Liked the Philly scenes.

Yeah even though none of that was really Philly, Pete?  It did seem a heck of alot like Market street...You should seek out the book, a way better read than the movie was a watch.  Not a slog at all either, a really quick read.

Is it a book or a graphic novel?  Maybe I'll check it out.

Reg'lar ol' book.  Written by Max Brooks, son of Mel.
