So now we have the new combo of Star Wars and Angry Birds coming soon to consoles and PC......just because? I'm...I'm not sure what to think about this news.
http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/08/angry-birds-star-wars/ (http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/08/angry-birds-star-wars/)
I personally find the prostituting of the Star Wars license to just about anybody who will pay a cheap move but hey what do I know? :)
STAR WARS is a business, I'm not sure how licensing it for products is prostituting but what do I know.. ;)
Hey Dan, if Christianity© can license Jesus for sale, why would you begrudge George from making some money?
Did the pigs shoot first?
For the record I think Angry Birds is a dumb game...
I guess from a business sense, there is nothing wrong with this. From my perspective, its just one more reason not to buy this game. Attaching Star Wars to a videogame title =/= a quality experience. So if Rovio Mobile wants to be attached to Star Wars, that's their choice. But companies in recent memory that have done so have not had successful games and it actually helped kill at least one company.
I'm sure there will be plenty of people who will enjoy the game in this iteration, why deny them? As far as how attaching STAR WARS to a video game title is a =/= experience, that's your opinion. I have an idea for you...don't but it. There all better. :)
BORING............. I'm afraid the days when i get excited to read the words Star Wars has long gone.
I won't be, I haven't bought an iOS app for a long time now and this won't change anything. I'm nonplussed about this news more than anything.... People will buy anything Star Wars and that's their choice. And this is especially true on iOS so....yeah. Whatever.
Saying that I still like my lightsaber app :)
Meds....Brisksaber! Try that one. Too cool. Unless of course you think attaching the STAR WARS name to a game is a =/= experience and feel you should boycott it! :)

For one, I'm not hating on Star Wars, on iOS or on other big businesses. I wish people would quit using "hating" as a word to describe when others disagree with their choices or disagree with the companies' choices. If I was "hating" on it, I would be considered a troll on here and kicked out.
I do not hate Star Wars. I disagree with how George Lucas is running his business. (But also aware that I am not running his business too) I severely disagreed with the Blu-Ray releases. But I can and probably will watch the Star Wars movies at some point in the future. I do have a DVD collection of all Star Wars movies back home. If I hated Star Wars so much, don't you think I would have sold those copies by now? Beyond the movies, I do not care all that much about the Star Wars franchise anymore. However, if I ever went to your house and you offered to watch Star Wars with me, I'd enjoy it with you. I actually don't mind the prequels despite their flaws. And geez, I gave the Clone Wars 4 season's worth of dollars. I don't have a boycott on Star Wars games I should add. Those boycotts are reserved for other companies who are not being discussed here.
I do not hate Apple. But I disagree with their decisions to go on sue-a-thons, to lock down their OSes, and to practice in other anti-consumer behaviors. And I find the App Store to be a toxic place. I've had numerous developers attempt to force me into business practices that I cannot stand by and agree with. (Freemium being the biggest one that comes to mind). So this is why I have a poor opinion of the current Apple ecosystem.
As far as other businesses are concerned, I am not anti-big business. If you ever read my blog, I do talk positively about big businesses often. Problem is, that doesn't show up here in TSF because I get into far too many arguments. And that's my fault, because my tastes have changed since I first came on here. I am not into TV anymore. Not since the cancellationthon that happened several years ago turned me away from TV. I am not into Movies anymore, I don't find them as interesting/engaging and the price certainly doesn't justify 3D, among other things. And I am not a hardcore Star Trek/Wars person. And maybe that's my problem. I'm passionate about videogames and the communities in and around them. But I'm probably the only active member on here who is so I find myself in lonely company.
Is it stupid of me to expect businesses to have standards? Probably. And no doubt Bryan will chirp in that this is how the business world works. But I've seen smaller businesses do a better job. So why is it that when they suddenly get big that they lose that ability to do a better job? And why should we accept that as just a common practice? We shouldn't. But we do.
This is who I am. Like it or not. I wish I could be this passionate about politics or other weighty subjects that actually affected the world around us more than just our enjoyment of it. But those weighty discussions are impossible to have outside your close circle of friends. And that saddens me. So this is what I talk about.

LOL!! Problem is, Tim won't buy it! :)
I agree, I don't think you are a hater. As you said, your just disagreeable. :) You know we love you, you big lug. Your young, be optimistic, someone need to be! :)
Well King, I must say, that was eloquently written. So my question is: who wrote it for you? :) JK
Dude, you think you're all alone in the world. Guess what? Not always a bad thing, is it? I'll let you paint your own answer for that statement.
I zing on you because it's easy to. You're young and sometimes you make statements that we all KNOW mean one thing but sound like another so you leave the door open. I know that I'm not one of the fav's here because I like to debate things, question the status quo, take the opposite side to most discussions but I'm fine with my place in this little ecosystem. I do have to say though, I too am not a die-hard Star Wars, Star Trek, Buffy, Katie Sackoff, Vampire Dairies, what ever, fan. I LIKE these things, but don't give a rat's buttocks if they exist or not. And I know that makes me not fit in here as well as most. So, in that regard, you and I are alike. However, I have much more hair and can grow a very impressive beard!
One thing I hope people get from me, with the occasional nutso moments, I'll have fun here, poke fun at people (especially Bryan when he refuses to wear a SHIRT), and even rile you up but I hold no grudges. Like is too short to be devoted to a THING to the point of anger. Yes, I do forget that once in a great while as well. But if I can't have fun here, especially at your expense :) then kick me off the forum and ban me for life! But it better be a long ban because I'm immortal.
And for the record, you do come off as seriously bitter against a lot of things, but like you said: that's who you are. And regardless of what you may think, I accept you for that. You'll notice that I generally don't ignore you here! :) If I didn't accept you or didn't like having fun "with" you, you'd never see me post to your comments.
Anyway, stop hating on George. He's a genius, I'm totally devoted to all his does and someday want to have his baby! :) Seacrest out!

I just hope it is better then Angry Birds space.
King, let me be the first to tell you that you are not alone. I grew up with very eclectic tastes in things that continued on in my adult life. I've never been a mindless fan of anything and accepting of all that comes out under a certain banner. I was into sports, roleplaying, comics, dating, sci-fi and clubbing. Since I've grown older, I've dropped the clubbing and my wife would seriously frown on me going out on dates.
I think that your main problem is that you grew up in a time where there was no shortage of excellent stuff happening and unfortunately, the glories of our past is oft to color our futures and we tend to build myths in our minds on how those things were beyond great. Then you get to the stuff happening now and it just seems to be either more of the same or not as good as it could be.
Here is a bit of advice from me to you. Don't look at things outside of the context of the package that they present. If you do decide to look at it from the past, remember that some things aren't trying to copy other things, but to pay homage to the things that they grew up loving.
X, well said. You and I have stuff in common. I was never one to give my all to one specific thing, I'm into a lot of very different stuff.
Tim, here's another bit of advice: be mindful when trying to find deep meaning in everything. Sometimes a thing is just a thing. Remember, you can spray paint a dog turd gold, but it's still just a turd!
Well another interesting Star Wars debate lol.
I just wish George didn't sell out the brand so much. Does he need the money? Seriously what's his cut going to be from this in comparison to re releasing the box sets again? ;)
Star Wars is becoming its own parody and soon there will be a generation that just remembers thus crap and won't have a clue that it all came from some really cool movies a long time ago....

Dan, Lucas has been selling Star War to anyone willing to pony up the licencing cash since the beginning of the brand. Nothing at all has changed. Toys, books, rpgs, board games, video games, legos, burger and drink wrappers. How many re-releases are we at now for the same six movies?
There is absolutely nothing that would remotely suggest that this move is out of character and everything to suggest that it is perfectly in character. The question isn't why he did this, but rather did you expect him not to? Angry Birds is a hot property and it keeps the brand in the eyes of people.
It's actually some pretty good marketing and when you explain to the kids that buy the game who the characters are, you are probably inclined to pick up the movies or clone wars to bring them deeper into star wars.
Not to state the obvious, but it's a win-win for Lucas here.
I don't disagree with that but I don't think there is another brand that does this to this extent. Also it seems to me that the quality of the licensing has dropped in recent years. Perhaps it is because I'm looking at this as an adult now?
Merchandise! Lovely :-)
http://mashable.com/2012/10/08/angry-birds-star-wars-merchandise/ (http://mashable.com/2012/10/08/angry-birds-star-wars-merchandise/)
My only point of contention is that although this might not be your cup of tea, there are lot's of other fans of the franchise that will derive fun from this and that makes it 100% ok in my mind. I was over at my coaches home yesterday and his 4 year old son loves Angry Birds and STAR WARS. He was so excited when I told him about this. Seeing a young kid getting excited about a STAR WARS tie in for another property was terrific. And I think as adults we need to not be so defensive and judgmental of our childhood pleasures. Your welcome to your opinions but I'll go with that smiling kid every time then a lot of whining about Lucas ruining STAR WARS when in fact he is keeping it relevant so my kids will know of it as well. Future generations are going to need their own gateways into the franchise, not just some really old movies that will seem very dated tot hem.
Good points.
dan, to answer you question about other properties that do something similar, most properties directed at kids are flooded with licensed merchandise. Sesame Street, loony toons, and the Muppets are only a few that come to mind.
"I'm passionate about videogames and the communities in and around them. But I'm probably the only active member on here who is so I find myself in lonely company. "
Tim, you know that's not true...although the gaming forums here are pretty quiet, of active dedicated gamers here there's myself, Joe, Chris X, Chris-El, Rico, Paul (a Lionhead dev no less) and that's just off the top of my head. For the record I find myself agreeing with you about as much as disagreeing so that's pretty good right?
Angry Birds is an interesting anomaly for me. That game has been on my phone for years now and although I've never played it for more than maybe ten minutes at a time, I've probably booted it up and played it at least fifty times when bored on the train, in line at the bank or whatever. I've never bought any of the sequels or add ons, so for a grand total of 99 cents that's a pretty good gaming value in anyone's mind. I wouldn't mind seeing what they do with the Star Wars branding and it's certainly not something that upsets me in any way. The fact that the game is so incredibly popular across all groups of people: gamers, non-gamers, old people, young people, men, women etc., makes it really the perfect franchise for GL to hitch his wagon to. In fact, Star Wars is a sci fi franchise that appeals to non sci fi fans much in the same way that Angry Birds is a game that appeals to people that don't really like video games, so this is actually a match made in heaven.
good point Joby! Hell, I've put more hours into video games this week alone than into some sci-fi properties for the past year

Yeah, Dan you might be biased simply because you are a STAR WARS fan and therefore more cognizant of it in the broader cultrue. I know this is not unique to STAR WARS.
I would pay for a Star Wars themed 'Space Quest' where Roger Wilco - as a space janitor - must penetrate a Death Star. Maybe drop an old 'M80' into the plumbing to blow the place up..
One thing for me after having an iPad for a time now is I have discovered I'm not really much of a casual gamer. I'd rather play WOW for an hour than Angry Birds. But I can see the mass appeal ($$) of slapping Star Wars on a game.
There is something to be said for the quick, easily disposable experience. By disposable I don't mean play once or twice then trash, but rather pick up and play for a couple minutes then quit without worrying about losing progress, messing up long saved games or whatever. I recently discovered a really fun iOS game called Temple Run (late to the party probably if there's any iOS gamers reading this) and have gotten fairly addicted to collecting coins and progressing in this "endless runner" type game. Funny how I discovered it...my daughter downloaded the free version onto my wife's phonr and was playing it non stop. This is the first ever game recommendation I took from one of my kids, pretty cool!
So many things to quote, but I'll just try and hit on everything I can.
Bryan: Well, I'll try and be more optimistic then :P. But I do understand your view of "if someone enjoys it, that's enough".
Quadshot: Thanks and while I may not understand your want to have George's kids, I won't judge you ;).
X: I've never really had the problem with things "copying" or paying homage to past things, such as videogames copying mechanics or movies maybe taking certain plot points. Its when it gets blatantly copied (art & sound & feel) that I start getting a bit annoyed.
Joby: You make good points and yeah, if you fully agreed with everything I said, I'd be concerned ;). While I agree, there is something to be said for disposable experiences. But that doesn't mean I need to get skinned alive to play those experiences. I did play Temple Run, but got bored pretty quickly. Probably because I'm really not into score-attack games like Temple Run.

I'm a pretty dedicated gamer, (X-Box and Iphone) and my main gaming is done on teh X-Box but i do love my games on my iphone. Angry Birds is a stable game, I still play it, i go back and re-do levels. Catapult King is another winner and I quite like the flick games. Although I am pretty vocal on my boredom of Star Wars (stupid vodaphone adverts etc lol) I have to say I really do Like the look of the Star wars Angry Birds game. And with Dan giving athumbs up I think i'm going to have to spend some money and have a go. :)

Love that the Han bird can fire his blaster and Luke cuts things up with his lightsaber! It's done well and a great refresh to the Angry Birds formula.
It's more fun than it deserves to be and for .99 it's a bargain. I can't get Jack off my phone now.
Buying it now! Happy Birthday to me!
I just bought it as well for te iPad and phone!
I love it. I'm only up to Obi Wan Kenobi and using the Force, though, but it's FUN! I played that first level like 5 times just to fool around with the Force.
might have to get this one for my new iPhone 5!!!
I have to say I really like this, the little Star Wars touches with the sound effects and the panels add to the game. The different abilities that the birds have are great as well. I like the Lightsabers and Hans Blaster, still trying to get a hold of the force with Obi-Wan.
Yup, I got it and flying through it. Damn you Angry Birds...
Oh dear. I really don't want to like his (angry birds bores me) but it sounds like it might be just the switch around the game needs to make it interesting.
I have a bad feeling about this... like I'm going to have to go and buy it.
Edit: Oh dear, lots of In App purchases. Not so interested now.

I'm refusing to buy it because it's a stupidly expensive app.
You have to buy separate app versions for iPhone and iPad. This practice needs to stop and I wish Apple would force it to stop.
Ads are in the paid-for version (not cool)
Multiple unnecessary in-app purchases. Might be a freemium system in there too but I can't tell without buying the apps. But I saw it in Angry Birds Space and it wouldn't surprise me to see it in here.
I don't blame Rovio for extracting as much cash as they can out of the Star Wars brand. Doesn't mean I have to support it though.
There you go, dine away ;).
I see your point on the multiple version thing Tim - which is why I simply only buy the iPad version.

Which is why this one only costs $2.99. You don't HAVE to pay for all the in-app things you know. (there, dessert is served :) )
Expensive app??? Really at .69p, you can just about buy a chocolate bar for that. I've done two levels, not paid any more.
So what are the in-app purchases for? I can't tell from here, but last time I played an Angry Birds, it was a "not required, but heavily encouraged you do pay-for IAP"
I've not seem any in app purchases, well nothing that's stopped me playing.
This is an awesome game, I don't care if there are ads or not. It rocks. And is way fun... and I hate Imperial Pigs!
Yeah, it's funny what people focus on, I never even noticed or cared about the ads. The game's alot of fun.
Well I have got the Android version. There is a regular version and an "HD" version for tablets. The regular one is free and looks great on my phone. I not see any ads at all (that i have noticed) or in app purchases although occasionally at the end of a level one of the symbols you get is a shopping cart so I'm guessing this is it.

I've been playing the free version on my 10" Android tablet and it looks good.
I dunno what Tim is talking about...I bought the .99 cent version for the iPhone and it plays perfectly well on my iPad at no additional cost, the same way every iPhone app does, blown up at double size. I haven't seen any in game purchases, and the ads are for other Rovio games and are only on the pause screen, unobtrusive and fine in my opinion. Fun game.
So...*coughs*...yeah, I'll just let myself talk from last night since I am really tired right now and running off of 4 hours of sleep:
"A good friend of mine, Rick M, gifted me Angry Birds: Star Wars edition. That made my day. Despite the harsh words I had for Rovio over the game, Rovio isn't on my blacklist and I wasn't not going to accept a gift from a friend who wanted to brighten my day after a really rough time of things. I have played it a bit so far and I have to admit, its a pretty good game for iOS. Its probably one of the best AB games too from what I've played of it so far. I can also say its one of the better Star Wars-branded games to come out in a while. Rovio actually took the franchise name and didn't use it as a crutch for a bad game. They actually enhanced the game with it. Well, kudos to them. Far too many movie-videogames come out half baked and use the brand as a crutch to excuse poor game design and sloppy mechanics. From what I can see of the game, they put in some unique features plus the story isn't too bad either. I still don't like the freemium system in the game, but it seems to be entirely optional (thus far). I still don't like paying for separate versions of the same app for iPhones & iPads, but also acknowledge that the combined price is $3.99, which is a fairer price for consumers that just have an iPhone/iPod touch since they only have to pay 99 cents for it. So all in all, my attack on the game was unfair. (I didn't attack AB: SW on the blog, but rather on Twitter and a forum I frequent) I think I've been a bit too trigger happy on iOS apps since some previous incidents with iOS developers happened and that would be my bad. I really should get these games before I go out and berate them, but I'm not exactly rich enough to buy every app there is so I make judgment calls quite a number of times. This would be one of those bad calls. You should consider getting it if you have any interest with either franchise."

Again, if u have an iphone and an iPad and don't care about having the "HD" version, you can pay .99 and install the iPhone version on the iPad as well at no additional cost. You don't have to pay for a separate version.

True enough, didn't think about that when I was writing that up last night.
Now waiting for the free Hoff update.
There is a free version on windows 8 for download to try, but if you want to buy it, it's 4.99. However, you can install it on up to seven windows 8 devices.

I'll be annoyed if the Obi-Wan bird is used in that. Continuity please! ;)
Hoth update has landed! Happy tapping!!!
I saw that! Can't wait to play that level!
Leia bird's tractor beam is pretty sweet! Love knocking down walker pigs.
I can't wait! I finished all the other levels to almost all three stars and it's so much fun!
I did try this the other night (like I said I might) but I just can't get into it. From what I saw I like the SW spin on things but I guess I just don't find Angry Birds a compelling enough game to join in with it. Admittedly, I only played the free levels on the iPhone. I didn't try the iPad version.
I'm still working my way through the first levels and enjoying it. But on some of the harder screens sometimes it almost seems to be blind luck to complete a level. The gravity effects really make things tricky at times. But I'm enjoying this game quite a bit.
