Looks like QMx is getting the chance to make "all things Trek." Cool news! My wallet is already screaming. :biggrin
LOS ANGELES, CA — September 28, 2012 — Quantum Mechanix Inc. (QMx) is pleased to announce that it has secured the rights from CBS Consumer Products to produce collectibles for all Star Trek movie and TV properties.
Among the QMx collectible items will be:
Ship replicas – both studio-scale and mid-scale limited-edition ship replicas.
Animation-style maquettes.
Novelty items – including jewelry, key chains, stickers and more.
Prop replicas and set props.
Lithographs
Plushes
Already in the works is the Artisan Edition Studio-Scale U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D, a 38-inch long, film-quality replica with working lights and a screen-accurate paint job. Like all QMx Artisan replicas, the Enterprise will be 100% made-to-order in the U.S.A. with the finest detailing and greatest precision.
QMx has pioneered the U.S.-based development and manufacture of licensed, made-to-order ship replicas. Each Artisan ship is assembled, wired and painted by hand in a working model-effects shop. This process, while more resource intensive and more time consuming than overseas manufacture, ensures discerning collectors get a replica of unsurpassed quality.
QMx's plans for Star Trek go well beyond high-end filming miniatures. The company also has a replica of the Star Trek: The Next Generation communicator badge in development that offers fans a unique way of fastening the prop to their clothing – using a magnetic clasp.
The company will also be releasing the next in its hot replica key chain line – the Enterprise D. Cast in metal with a pewter finish, the Enterprise D key chain is based on the same digital effects files used to create the big replica.
Taking a cue from QMx's best-selling Little Damn Heroes line of animated chibi-style figures, Star Trek fans can expect to see a full line of small-scale character maquettes that are as well-crafted as they are adorable.
"Working on Star Trek products is something of a dream come true for our team," said QMx CEO Andy Gore. "Whether it's a key chain, a screen-accurate prop or FX model, folks can expect us to put extra effort into surprising and delighting them."
Star Trek collectibles will be available in comic, collector and specialty stores around the country, and are also available directly at www.qmxonline.com (http://www.qmxonline.com).

Well deserved and hopefully the extra product volume can help bring down their prices on the high end ships!
And I told you this ship was big! And made to order in the USA, $5K.

Holy crap! $10K for the Enterprsie D and $7K for the refit or JJ movie ship!
I'm starting to think these type of prices might be a good thing for me. At $2k-ish or less I'd be really tempted. But even $5K or above is just too rich for my blood.

Yeah, I mean for $3K you can get TrekModeler to build you a refit that looks just as good, IMO.
Yep. You know what I am really curious about is if this increase in high end model pricing (vs. the good old Master Replicas days) is somewhat due to an increase in the cost of the Trek license? I'd love to know more about how much it costs to license a property like this. I wonder if it's some chunk of money up front and then a percentage of the profits on item sales.

...or is it just an attempt by QMx to see what the market will bear? Why sell a model for 2000 dollars when people will buy it for 7000? :) It also depends on thier pricing strategy, obviously since these are considered collectible they're aiming at low volume/high margin.
Yeah, I think with these they don't see the math working on enough volume at even a $5K price point and so just swing for the fences with a few high end collectors potentially and build these to order. MR quality and volume were great as the price was so low relative to this, but I question how profitable it was for them. QMx does have the TIE's finally shipping and those at $1K or just below, likely is where they can make these in China, get good enough quality, and sell enough to make it profitable. They can't make these Enterprise replicas in China like MR did.
Saw a Video of the JJ Enterprise from QMX, Looks like a lot of detail on it, though I found the way the wired to the power could have been done better. For all that cash you think they could have rigged it through the stand.

holy crap that's a beautiful model
It is very nice but you can have a model built that looks just as good if not better for 75% less.
Wow! Really a beautiful job on this. Costs a lot, but it looks like they did a great job. Love the packaging job with the registry number on the side. The wiring doesn't bug me too much. This ship and design has grown on me. I really hope she survives the next movie.
Really nice job on the mdel but I could sure never afford one and even if I could it would be a death sentence from the wife! :)
