Kind of funny that after that movie, Entertainment Tonight sorta highjacked the the name by referring to themselves as E.T.

I think I'm going to take my little girl to see this tomorrow night, she's never seen this yet.  Hopefully the wife will let us out on a school night ;)  thanks Vartok for posting this. 

When I was looking for showtimes, I read a little blurb about a treatment proposed by Steven Spielberg in 1982 for a sequel called E.T. 2:  Nocturnal Dreams.  It was supposedly a darker storyline where a race of evil aliens from E.T.'s planet come to Earth and start terrorizing the planet, until E.T. comes back and saves the day.  Sounds like it could have been pretty good, actually!
