Title: The Wolverine
Post by: ChrisMC on July 30, 2012, 05:35:08 PM
They finally started filming this today in Australia. It's gonna be set in Japan a'la the Frank miller mini-series from the 80's, quite possibly the series that helped propel the comics version of Wolverine to the top of geek charts back then. Gonna see Silver Samurai on the big screen! From what I hear they are aiming to make this a more adult, R-rated version of Wolverine. The director James Mangold has made 3:10 to Yuma, Walk the Line and Cop Land. Hoping for a cool movie! The video below shows the first day of shooting.

Can't wait!  A Wolvie movie done right, set in Japan and that story should be awesome!

Hugh Jackman might start to have Brent Spiners problem if this becomes a trilogy...Wolvie isn't supposed to age.

The director is a real talent, I really loved all the movies Chris mentioned above, especially the remake of 3:10 to Yuma.  Bruce Wayne was awesome in that ;)  And his last film, Knight and Day with Tom Cruise is underrated and a pretty entertaining action flick.

I'm sooo in love with Hugh Jackman!  :love He's so great! Can't wait to see him in Les Miserables. That should be interesting.

Is that a real pic from the filming of the movie?  It looks not in proportion - especially his head looks too big.

I hope they don't make it with an R rating. PG-13 would be fine but don't you think with an R rating it would lose some of its audience. Wolverine it still very popular with I'm sure all ages. I think it would be a mistake to make it an R rated movie. And to be perfectly honest I don't think I would go see it if it is R rated.

I'm really looking forward to this movie.. Wolverine was never a favorite of mine in the comic books but ever since Hugh took up the role in X-men he's just been so amazing.

Just from this trailer I can see that it will be steps above X-Men Origins. More serious tone and let Wolverine kick some ASS. Silver Samurai?? OK!  :ninja

Oh, and even the Hiroshima bomb can't keep Logan down.

Probably the fairly average X-Men Origins:Wolverine coloring your perception. Hugh Jackman seems aware how that movie wasn't the greatest and has said he did this one to sort of make up for it. So it could be very good.

This one looks very true to the Wolverine comics of the early 90's, so I'm going to give it a chance. No previews, no reviews, I'm just going to walk in blind and hope for the best.

I was hoping it would become a trend and X-Men Origins would focus on some of the more interesting origin stories in the X-Men universe.  I could see a Cyclops and Jean Grey movie being really good, Nightcrawler would be cool, Magneto, so many possibilities.

Saw this today - great movie! One of the best mutant movies in awhile. Solid story, great cast & solid performances, great action. Jackman was fantastic. If you like Wolverine you have to see this movie. Also - don't get up right away during the credits. Stay put.  :)

Saw it yesterday and I loved it. There were a few "what?" "why?" moments, but really enjoyable. Picking up after The Last Stand it really makes up for it. And like Rico said stay a little while through the credits. You won't regret it.

Speaking of which...
That was so exciting seeing Magneto and Professor X at the end. It makes me so excited for Days of Future Past. Can't wait to see how that fits together with this timeline.
You know even though we won't be seeing X-Men in the Avengers universe (I mean likely not) I'm actually kind of ok with that. I think they work so much better separate. They are both such broad universes and I don't think these two universes would play well with each other.
Title: Re: The Wolverine
Post by: Rico on July 30, 2013, 12:25:11 PM
Glad you liked it too Dan.  You are kind of right about the X-Men and Avengers getting together being pretty big.  The odd thing is currently in Marvel comics they have been working hard to mix the teams together over the last year or two.  With newer titles like the Uncanny Avengers and so on.  I'd like to see it attempted someday on the big screen, but for now it's ok the way it is.
Title: Re: The Wolverine
Post by: ElfManDan on July 30, 2013, 01:13:24 PM
I think it would be cool someday too, but if they merged the two universes one of them would have to scale back. They both are just so big in scale and have full timelines built I just don't see them being able to merge these two current incarnations of the universe. Would be cool though. And I heard somewhere there may be some lesser known X-Men characters in the next Avengers, but they wouldn't be defined as mutations or being from the X-Men universe.

I think Hugh Jackman might be tougher and more of a man that Wolverine!  He dead lifts over 400 lbs. here - with no mutant powers!

Saw last night. Enjoyed it! Very cool to see some elements from the Frank Miller Japan story. Question: was the poison lady from any comics?

Deadlifting is full-body exercise. It's the best. Back, traps, forearms, abdominals, glutes and yes legs too. Hugh is a beast...I'm sure upper body was prioritized because that's where the screen time is.
The vein popping tree chopping scene was crazy.

Two thumbs up here for Wolverine - great action and stunts.  Tao Okamoto (Mariko) at 5' 9¾" looked tall and willowy to Jackson's 6' 2", a good match.  This is her first movie.

Hey that would be my normal routine (well except for the days I do more like 6 hours), but I do a lot more running and cardio and aerobics I'd guess. I'm not exactly bodybuilding.

I saw this last week.. here's my review from my blog
Here is my review (There will be SPOILERS)... First let me say that I actually enjoyed Wolverine: Origins. I mean some of the claw sfx looked unrendered but I enjoyed it overall. As for The Wolverine, I have to admit that the previews did not look appealing to me. I don't know what it was but they just didn't click for me. Now that didn't mean I wasn't going to go see it.. of course I was being a huge fan of X-Men and Hugh Jackman. So I walked out of the theater and thought to myself.. that was good. The effects were amazing, the acting superb and the story was good. They really delved into Wolverines psyche. I love that it picks up right after the events of X-Men 3 and the fact that he killed the woman he loved and how that's messing with his head. I didn't like that the guy he saves at the beginning turns out to be the "bad guy". It was cool seeing Logan's bone claws in the beginning and the end....looks like he's stuck with those now. I did think that there were enough mutants. There were two other mutants in this movie, the girl who could see visions of the last moment of peoples lives (that would be horrible) and then the snake lady whom they called Viper. I did like they little scene in the middle of the credits, with Magneto and Professor X.. a little preview of X-Men Days of Future Past (which I can't wait for). Overall it was a very enjoyable movie, much better then the trailer made it look.. at least to me. I give The Wolverine a solid B
This movie made me happy. Finally saw it today, much closer to the source material than Origins. Really enjoyed the story, amazing,a superhero movie with quiet reflective moments that say alot about the main character. Wish this had been the immediate follow up to X3, might have gotten a little of the taste of that entry out. I'm now very hopeful for Days of Future Past.

Finally got to watch this on Thursday and I really liked it! The Japanese actress' I thought were very good and very pretty. Great story and I really liked the train scene. I thought that was very well done. Going in I didn't know if I would like the fact that it was set in Japan but I thought that made it even better. Glad I got this from Netflix now I need to go buy it!
