RoboCop (2013) "Omnicorp Product Line" Viral #1 [HD] 720p (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dztELFt8uUU#ws)
Cool! I'm interested to see how this movie turns out. The original is a classic.
Didn't realize this movie was filming here in Toronto, came across some photos of the action:

Couple more pics, though I do like the red eye line, I'm still kinda blah on the rubber-looking bat-robo suit.
I don't want to be a bit down on it but blimey that suit looks awful.
It just doesn't read "robot" to me in these pics. No telling how it will look on screen.
That suit needs some chrome on it.

Yeah. It's a bit odd looking to me too.
Someone photoshopped some chrome-ishness onto the new suit. At the very least it breaks up the black and adds contrast....looks way better in my opinion.
Does look better. He's suppose to be Robocop darn it - not Batman. :)

Exactly.
I wonder of that guy can photo shop some ears and a cape on to the original picture just to satisfy curiosity :)
Ok, I'll give it a try.

I don;t know, just looks like a poor facsimile of the original without the wit, humor, satire, and over the top violence that made the Robocop such a fun film that was unapologetic about itself.
The helmet on the poster reminds me of a Cylon.
Streethawk..... Enough said. Meh!
i am in on this one. One of my friends from high school was in robocop 2 as an extra.
I went and saw this today, and have to say, I quite enjoyed it. To me, I really felt bad for him when it came to his family, and how he was being used by so many to push an agenda. I have to say as well, even though it was a smaller role, I felt that Jay Baruchael did a great job, and really played to his strengths. I have really only seen him in some comedies, but really felt he fit well in this movie, as I never really thought in the past he had these types of movies in him.
I went with my wife and friend, and I enjoyed it more then they did. My friend preferred the original, which I did as well, but I enjoyed this as well. My wife never saw the original and just found this ok. I think it ended up being more then I was expecting and maybe touched me in a spot I was not expecting.
I have to say, there really was not much left of Alex Murphy that became Robocop. Sort of reminded me of General Grievous in a sense where they just stuff his head, heart and lungs into a cyborg body.
Thanks for the review Jeff. I do want to see it. The funny thing is, I'm not as much a fan of the original as many people are. I have a hard time with how violent the first movie is - hard for me to watch it in places. Hope to see this new take sometime soon.
I saw it last night in a break from the convention circuit. It's about 99% less violent than the original, but far more entertaining with the story aspects. I think it's also a commentary on our world today as the first Robocop was a commentary on the greed culture of that era.
This version seems to focus more on the man behind the cop and how becoming Robocop changes his reality. It's also a very good story on freedom, security, and freewill. I'm not going to say the story was some cinematic greatness of storytelling, but it's a damned good action film.
Thanks Chris. Glad to see all the folks out there condemning this film before they even see it and give it a chance are as usual just jumping on the bandwagon of trashing something before they even actually see the movie.
Well you know my feelings on re-makes. I think its lazy producing, lazy in ideas etc and I am not impressed by the pictures I have seen but......... I have read some very good reviews, from people who like me love the original. So I may (for once) push my remake hatred aside and pop to the flicks to see it.
I don't think there is a 'jumping on the bandwagon' thing going on here Rico I think a lot of people are just tired of lazy Hollywood antics. Look if someone made a film from a book and then totally went away from the source material then i can justify a remake as long as it comes out near to the source material. Re-making films just because they can i do not buy. But as I say I think I will go and see this and then compare it to the classic 80's film.
All I was talking about with my "jumping on the bandwagon" was judging something without seeing it. Whether you are in favor of remakes or not wasn't really my point. I just hope people give things "a fair shake and chance." That's all.
LOL 'a fair shake and chance' Are you making these up ;) you are becoming the master of the one liners lol. I agree with you about people moaning about a film when not seeing it, as I said earlier i'm quite looking forward to seeing it now especially as people have been saying about the new social angle.
The original was so great because it was so violent and over the top, that was the intention. It's an incredible satire of US society in the '80's. Verhoven returned to this concept brilliantly in Starship Troopers, which was a send up of just about every trope out there.
I just wish he had not let himself down with Showgirls lol

Seriously, the formula didn't work, although he was clearly trying do the same thing for strippers! Over the top only works with actors who can pull it off. Gina Gershon was solid but Elizabeth Berkley and Kyle were utter crap. But man, i love Robocop and Starship Troopers. Would you like to know more? ;)
You should do a podcast on Showgirls ;)

"...and there is some more naughty bits..."
I think that the commentary of today is why this movie worked for me. This entire story was bookended by on screen commentary on what we should sacrifice for safety. This movie was a commentary on the now as much as the original was a commentary of the then.
I was fully prepared to hate the movie. We went on Saturday and absolutely loved it. It's not a remake...it's a re-imagining! It's true. Still love the original, but this is a good one. Listen to our review on episode 11 of the rusted robot podcast!
Happy to know that I was not the only one who enjoyed this movie :) . I agree, the commentary on the debate on what we are willing to give up in terms of safety is interesting, and how in the movie, people were quite split on it.
