Title: Iron Man 3
Post by: ChrisMC on May 30, 2012, 01:12:23 PM
I didn't even know they were filming already! Guess I'm behind the times. Here's a pic of the villain from IM3, James Badge Dale as Eric Savin, who is Coldblood in the comics...it looks like they are giving him Norman Osborn's Iron Patriot armor from Dark Avengers. Pretty cool looking, and I loved James Badge Dale in The Pacific.

Cool pic. Looking foward to more Marvel movies! I need to watch The Pacific. I only got to see the first couple of episodes. I was able to pick it up at a Blockbuster that was closing for $10. 2 discs are DVD the rest are blu-ray.

"Iron Man 3" comes out in early May 2013 - so less than a year away!  Comingsoon.net also has another pic showing the guy under the suit with his helmet off.  Looking forward to this.  Maybe they'll toss a cameo in by Cap or Thor or another Avenger for fun too!

Yeah, I'm guessing they wanted to use the Iron Patriot as a villain, but Norman Osborn must be owned by Sony still for film rights...I guess. It doesn't really matter who's in the suit, it's cool lookin!

Iron Patriot, nice character but I was kind of hoping we may get a villain that is unrelated to the armor this time.

I'm still hoping we get Mandarin with all the "Ten Rings" references in the previous movies.

There is a rumor that Ben Kingsley will be playing Mandarin...let's hope that's true, he'd be great.

Sexy Beast is a great movie! I can really see him as menacing as a villain, quite different from Gandhi, or Schindler's List!

Showing off the new Mark 8 armor at Comic-Con...from what I hear of some of the footage screened they may be doing an adaptation of Extremis...which would be freaking awesome. Loved that book.

Still no confirmation of the Extremis armor. But it is armor that they say is the one that he just thinks about it and it begins to appear. And Ben Kingsley is Mandarin. Check out this link.

They delayed IM3 filming due to RDJ hurting his ankle doing a stunt. He needs to realize he's 47! I'm 38 and pull a muscle standing up!

I'm not sure I'm used to the gold being the primary color on the new armor...oh well, guess I was hoping for a movie version of the Silver Centurion, that's my favorite armor from the comics. I am so curious to see what the MarvelMovieVerse is like after the events of Avengers.

Saw the 9 am 3d show :) and it was great, my fav Iron man movie by far. Maybe the most fun I've had at a superhero movie since X2.
I'm so-so on the whole 3d thing, but this was a good movie for it. The air-rescue scene  :jawdrop was spectacular.

Ouch, it was hard to watch his beautiful house get blown to pieces. And awesome.

Guy Pearce was an excellent villain.

I thought it was great when extremis-pepper totally annihilated that suit, looked like good therapy for her.

Really a fun movie!  Robert Downey Jr. simply IS Tony Stark now.  Lots of very cool things in this one.  A definite movie to see in the theaters.  Don't let it pass you by.

P.S.  Stay until after the credits are over.  :)

The wife and I saw this in 3D today. We thought it was a little dark and the sound was to low during some of the movie. It was in the older part of our theater so it was probably mostly the room we were in. We have 11 screens and they were playing it on 6!! But we got stuck in the older part. Oh, well. The screens have all been updated so the colors were fine.
We may try this in 2D or just wait for the blu-ray. We both liked it and had fun. Like Rico said stay till the end.
I also really liked that part where he was saving those folks from plane and I thought that was Tony in the suit. I thought there seemed to be alot going on at the end and sometimes hard to keep up but that could be the 3D thing. Enjoyed the parts with the kid too. I liked the ending after credits but was expecting something about the upcoming Thor movie.
The darkness you saw is part of the price of seeing movies in 3D.  The polarized lenses darken the picture a bit.  I saw it in "normal" mode and it was plenty bright, even in the night scenes.  Sound was perfect too.

Here in Beijing, you're generally not given a choice of 3D or non-3D. If a movie is offered in 3D, you're kind of stuck with it. I'd personally have opted for 2D if I could. Definitely getting dark, and I had to bust open contact lenses to go to the movie, as the 3D glasses the theater offers don't fit over my prescription frames anymore.

Iron Man 3 did not disappoint me. Not much I can think of to say in brief about it right now. However, I can throw in some trivia that might be of interest.

Iron Man 3 was originally to be a US-China coproduction. Last week, I read some articles about how many Chinese bloggers were unhappy with the final results of the collaboration, citing the extra material shot for the Chinese audience was superfluous to the story (and not what was promised the Chinese actors) and not included in the cut of the movie shown to the rest of the world. I was curious to see for myself.

Well, I can say that the bloggers have a point. I don't think this is really spoiler material since I'm talking about scenes that aren't in the cut of the movie seen in the rest of the world, but I'll keep it circumspect.

There are three (if memory serves) scenes shot completely in Chinese, featuring only Chinese actors. While there is a connection to concerns of the protagonist, the scenes are clearly held onto the movie with gaffer's tape. It doesn't quite drag the whole thing down, but it's puzzling that any of the studio execs could think this wishy-washy compromise was a good idea. A pity, really, as a little more collaborative effort could have dovetailed the additional material in much more gracefully.

Iron Man 3 is a really good Iron Man movie, but a rather lame excuse for a coproduction.

Saw Iron Man 3 yesterday, had a chance to get my thoughts all down on it. First off I really enjoyed it. I felt like it had the feel of the first film again without the origin story, and ramped up a lot. And it was a lot more cohesive as a film than Iron Man 2. Lots of action and lots of great dialog and of course Stark moments.

Here's my spoiler filled take on it...
I really enjoyed the movie as a whole. Definitely as an action film it was very good, it got a little crazy with all the Iron Man suits, but you know that's fun too. I think it really ties it all together well at the end though when Stark says I am Iron Man. It kinda makes that point that it's not the suit, but it's the man, and that's kind of how it all started in the first movie. It will be cool to see what comes next in Avengers 2 (or sooner perhaps in other movie franchises prior).

My big gripe is I did not get the bad guy. Was it just me or did I miss something important about what in the world his motives were. He got stood up by Stark and so than decides he wants to be a terrorist instead. Yeah I didn't get that. He seemed too unbelievable to me. It was cool the false face and the idea of making an false image of terror, but the Mandarin himself so unbelievable to me as a character. (Same with the scientist girl. I didn't get her character either for much the same reasons. I think they were trying to make her more sympathetic, but I just felt like she was a weak character.)

Otherwise I still loved the movie.
Dan...
Yeah, I kind of agree on the motives of the bad guy.  I want to see the movie again so maybe it will become clearer to me then.  But the movie was a blast.  What I loved was you got to see Tony do more without being in the suit all the time.  I loved it when it goes shopping and builds all that stuff to bust into the Madarin's lair.

I know he talked about his motivation or the why in the film, but I still just didn't see it and can't remember enough of what he said. I think it should have been made more clear if it was anything more deep. Let me know if you figure it out on rewatch.

Totally agree with the scene of Tony going through the store, even more the scene just before it when the kid tells him "Why don't you just build something?" and his response "Ok." It's just so Tony to build something, he's a genius and I love how it's so simple and obvious, and kinda foreshadows his tinkering and creating all the suits that show up later.
I am a bit late to the party on this movie, I was oncall when it came out, so had to wait a week. It was super busy, we went to the first showing of the day in 2D and the theatre was packed. It was a smaller theatre, but they were also running it in two other as well, so I suspect that this will be the Box Office champ again.
I am not sure how I felt about the twist, I guess for a good part of the movie, I thought that Mandarin was some real cold bad guy, and then to find out he was just an actor playing a role was a bit of a let down for me. I am not sure if the prime villain in this I really clicked with and like Rico and Dan indicated, not sure what his motivation was. Even the female scientist I did not really get, she was quoting all this stuff about not being able to do what one started out pursuing, so not sure if I was to feel sympathetic for her or not.

All the Iron Man suits got a bit much for me, but I guess at the end it drove home the point that there is only one Iron Man which is Tony Stark, so hopefully the remote control suits don't come back. I felt the scene where he was saving all the people from the plane was great and sparked a bit of emotion in me, but then felt cheated in the end when it was just remote control. If it was a setup for the gag of him getting hit by the truck after, I would have preferred to leave the scene on a high of heroism of Iron Man/Tony Stark. I guess call me old fashioned by I still find myself rooting for heroes to do heroic deeds.

The end felt a bit rushed as well, reminded me of a TNG or Voyager episode where they would get to a point and wrap everything up in a few minutes. I felt maybe a few more minutes spent of the end would have been beneficial to me, as am still not really sure how Tony Stark got to the point where he was at the end, or what brought on removing that part from him. Maybe I missed something so if someone could explain.

That all said, I really enjoyed the movie, and has me excited for Thor in November and then the next Captain America movie leading up to the Next Avengers movie.
Just got back and I loved it.
Saw it in 3D in magic lazy-boy chairs. I really liked what they did with the story. I also enjoyed the villain. Some people said they they didn't get his motivation, but I think it was pretty cool. He wanted to rule the world from the shadows. The Mandarin was a stepping stone for him to get the puppet that he really wanted. He wanted the country and would have had it if the President was killed and his pawn was made president. From there, his control of the war on terror would allow him to make more money and direct the conversation of the world. Using the guise of terror, he would be able to move the work of AIM where he wanted, and right before re-elections, he could discard the Mandarin to secure his control of the president for 8 more years. So, he gets funding for his pet projects, shadow control of the USA, and a means to eliminate his enemies using the terrorist aspect of his plan.

That worked for me.

The plan was fine, I just didn't see a motive. The villain just didn't feel believable to me without a good reason for what he was doing.
I can let it go a little because I did really enjoyed the film, and I still think it's better than Iron Man 2.
