Title: Job Loss
Post by: Jen on May 01, 2012, 11:37:39 AM
Could you guys keep my family in your thoughts and prayers? My husband Dave, lost his job last Friday.

He's currently looking for work in the oil field now, which is really booming now in Texas. He has several leads... nothing has panned out yet, but it's only been a few days. If he does get a job working for an oil company it will very likely take him away from Aaron and I, for long periods of time.  Aaron is only 21 months old. We're not looking forward to that but at the moment it's a much better option than having no job at all. You gotta do what ya gotta do... I know Rico understands that.

Sorry... just venting. I'm still working and that's good.

Good luck to you Jen.  I don't know you very well but from what I can tell, your family's bond is very strong and you will both get through these trials with love and faith.  Bad times make the good times so much sweeter.

Good luck.  I know there are lots of jobs in that field now - but they are usually remote and require being away from the family.  Double edged sword...

Sorry to hear this news Jen. We will be thinking of you both, we know how you must be feeling. Laura lost her job a few months ago and she's still looking.

Keep your chin up.

Sorry to hear about Dave's job.  I certainly know how that feels and wish you guys the very best.  As far as working farther from home, it can be hard but maybe not as bad as some might think.  Just hang in there and I'm sure everything will work out in the end.  Feel free to vent over here anytime too!  I also find it makes things better after letting things out.  Just ask my wife Lynn.  She is a very good venting listener for me.  :)

Ugh, so crazy.   I know you guys will be ok.  You have a lot going for you.  You are both hard workers and are cool people.  I'm praying that doors open for Dave.  In the meantime if we can help in any way, Amy and I are here for you.  :)

This is one of those times I wish I was rich.  I'd form a company and hire all of you to do the work you enjoy and do best.  Jen & Joe would do web stuff, Al would create the Rico-Theme Park, Mr. Moyer of course would do all music and audio work, Kenny would handle all video production, Joby & Tim the video game sub company, and Bryan would just walk around the place shirtless all day and also handle all company investments!  :)

I'll be sending you my resume Rico, ASAP.  I've got some great ideas on the future of our company and I think we can really make it work.

Hey Jen,

Hope that things go better for Dave and for your family in the time to come. It seems like people I know left and right have been losing their jobs lately. I do hope that Dave finds a position in the oil industry and that he is safe. Please let us know how you and your family are doing. Congratulations on still having a job.

All the best!

Z

Thank you all. I appreciate the encouragement, well wishes and prayers. Dave has a job interview tomorrow morning. It's an entry level position, which he is more than willing to take if they offer it... I think it would be difficult for me if I were him. He has a degree in business management and has been putting it to good use for 15 years. That won't be the case in this job...at least in that position. But it pays really well and there's room for advancement. A family friend owns the company, and the job will probably be his if he wants it. I guess we'll see how it goes.

And Rico, I wish you were rich too. I think I'd like working at your company. :)

Good luck to Dave with the interview.  One thing to keep in mind that you probably have certainly discussed is, you can always continue to look even if you take a job that isn't the exact thing you want.  It's hard to look while working full time, but it can be done.  Anyway, I'm sure it will all work out in the end for you guys.

Dave got the job. He starts on Monday. I'm not sure how long he will be gone, but at least he's employed again. Thank you again everyone.

Yeah, quality people are obviously still employable in some places. Well done. (At least you now have a breather to consider wider employment options if you need to).

Good news.  Better to take it and keep the wolf away from the door.  As Rico says, he can look in parallel for something more suitable.  But in this job market, he has already been lucky.
