Title: BlueStacks Android App Player hits beta

Post by: Rico on March 27, 2012, 08:35:14 AM
This is pretty cool.  This software will allow the playing of Android App's on PC's (running XP, or Vista, or Win 7).  So if you are a big PC user, this might be something worth looking into.

P.S.  I know Apple wants to see iPads and Macs, etc. but if they had an emulator for PC's to allow for iOS apps to run there they could make an even bigger killing selling App's for PC's.

Cool so it's like a commercial android emulator.

Yep.  I'm shocked it's taken them this long to get it close to market.  There are a TON of PC's out there to sell App's to.

Looks interesting. I've played with x86 versions of the Android OS itself but something like this to run apps only seems a lot more useful.

The only problem I see with this is that most apps are designed with touch-interfaces in mind, not mouse and keyboard and as such would be a bit awkward to use.

That said, it would be nice if the Mac App Store arrived on PC.  But I doubt we will ever see it happen.  Especially if Microsoft is doing an app store for Windows 8.

Playing Angry Birds on it right now. Works really well :)

Well, that's easy ;).  I mean, we already have Angry Birds on the PC in several different forms.  Let me think....oh right, yeah, try doing Infinity Blade on the PC, that would be a bit too hard.

There's nothing you couldn't translate from touch to a mouse and keyboard - and probably make it easier to control too.

Probably.

So I tried it out, its...ok I suppose.  Granted, I'm not all that familiar with what's on the Android market so if I knew, I could probably bring some cool apps to the PC.

Tried a few different apps. Works pretty well. Tried to hack to Google Play APK to work on it, not succeeded yet.

It is a pretty fun piece of software. I'll play with while it's free in beta but I doubt I'd have a need for it when t comes to the finished product, unless it's pretty cheap.

Yeah, I think on of the reasons this has been slow to market is that developers, rightly so, are focused much more on the mobile market. That's where the future growth is. Apps are really designed to tablet and smart phone use and are designed to take advantage of that format.
