Marvel has released 2 new series this month based around the Avengers movie coming out in May. The 1st one is 'Avengers Assemble' which includes the 6 main characters from the upcoming movie. I believe this is going to be a ongoing series. I didn't find any info to dispute that. The series is written by the writer of the main Avengers title, but Brian Michael Bendis is not going to continue with the main Avengers title so I don't know if he will continue to do 'Avengers Assemble'.
The other new Avengers title is a 4 part prelude to the movie. So read this before you go see it. 2 issues have already come out and they have a completly different creative team from the other Avengers titles. It's called 'Fury's Big Week' and does center around him and S.H.I.E.L.D. Check out these new titles to get your Avengers fix until the movie comes out!
Just picked up Avengers 24.1, which as a prelude to the Avengers vs. Xmen event that starts next month, details the fallout between the newly alive Vision, and his reaction to hearing how he died and that his wife, the Scarlet Witch, was ultimately responsible. There's a really amazing confrontation between Vision and Magneto...a great, great little story that makes me pretty excited for this upcoming Marvel event.
I'll have to check that out. Two of my favorite teams going at it!
Yeah there's some great buzz and excitement being generated about this event series. Looks like its going to be huge.
Here is a pic of Avengers Prelude #3. Avengers Assemble #2 is supposed to come out next week.
Picked up #2 of Avengers Assemble Wed. I read both of them and they were both good. The story does take place in the current timeline of the comic series already being done. They come up with a cool way on keeping this seperate from the other Avengers books though. If you like the Avengers comics you would like this series.
Check out the HULK getting ready to 'SMASH' on the cover of issue #2.
Issue four came out this week of Avengers Prelude and concludes this mini-series. I will be reading this soon now that I have all the issues. Which shouldn't be a problem while I'm on vacation!! Here is a pic of issue 4.
Fury's Big Week was a really good story taking place during Iron Man 2, Thor and The Incredible Hulk. It was a very well done mini-series. They came out with a new 3 parter also that is a prelude to The Avenger's movie called "Black Widow Strikes'. I picked it up Sat. Here is a pic. Please no drooling over Scarlett.
Avengers Assemble #3! This one wasn't quite as good as the first 2 issues. Does have a great cover!!
Avengers Assemble #3 - 7.
I've read the fist two issues of "Hulk Smash Avengers" which is another limited series that retells some of the iconic meetings between those characters over different periods of the Marvel timeline. Fun stuff so far.

I read about those on Marvel's web site but didn't see them at the comic shop I go to. They did look interesting.
Joby, I did see the latest issue of the Hulk Smash Avengers on Friday. It was #3 of 5. So I didn't get it since I din't have the other 2. Also this week #2 came out of Black Widow Strikes. The last issue comes out on June 6.
They are all stand alone issues so you can easily pick up in the middle and enjoy
I'm surprised I didn't think to check that but I did have my sister in law with me and she was getting bored of being in the comic shop. I was taking her home from work, we both work at the same place, and I told her I needed to stop at the Comic Shop first. I don't think she had as much fun as I did. ;D
Avengers Assemble #4 comes out June 13.
The last issue of "The Black Widow Strikes" came out Wed. I plan on reading this series this weekend now that I have the last part. Another nice cover with a pic from the movie.
Will - which ongoing Avengers comic series do you like best currently?
There are alot of Avengers series out there with Avengers Academy and Secret Avengers to name a few but I am reading The Avengers and Avengers Assemble that I have talked about on here. I like the team of the Avengers Assemble a little more that The Avengers team but I do like how on the Avengers comic the team members do change around some but they normally keep a good core group on the team. Cap, Iron Man, The Protector, and Spider Woman.
Having said that in The Avengers latest issue a lot of new faces show up from other Avengers teams. If I remember correctly The Protector and Cap have been the only 2 in all 26 issues. Also The Vision has came back so thats pretty cool. So if I were to rank them...
1. The Avengers
2. Avengers Assemble
The newest issue of Avengers Assemble came out Wed. #4 was alot better than the last issue and as you will see in the pic of the cover Thanos shows up! I didn't think he was coming till the next movie so maybe the Avengers movie was setting it up for him to return to the comics! OK, probably not. Anyway another cool cover and a great issue.
Avengers Assemble #4 - 9.
Avengers Assemble #5 features The Guardians of the Galaxy. It was a very good story and the Guardians will be in the next issue. The team is Quill, Rocket, Drax, Gamora. I never saw the bug looking character's name.
Avengers Assemble #5 - 9.
Here is a pic of #5 along with a pic of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Some big things happening at Marvel with "Marvel Now" coming up. A few books cancelled / postponed & restarted and a few new ones including "Uncanny Avengers" an Avengers / X-Men melding and a new X-Men book where the original X-Men team from the past travel to our present! Exciting stuff.
Just picked up the atest issue of Avengers Assemble it is #6. Cool cover with the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy. The Guardians seem to be in the forefront with The Avengers in the background. That seemed a little odd to me but I still think its cool. Check out this pic.
I read issue #6 & 7 of this series and I don't know for sure but I believe this series will also be ending. I did enjoy both issues.
Avengers Assemble #6 - 9.
Avengers Assemble #7 - 8.
Here is a pic of #7. I don't think Thanos will be in the next Avengers movie. I think he's going up against The Guardians of the Galaxy.
Just read the latest issue of Avengers Assemble and it was a very good one. There's a panel in this issue that I thought wa Awesome! It showed many of the Avengers going after Thanos. Very cool. This issue rates an easy 10!
Here is a pic of the cover.
Just read issue #9 of Avengers Assemble. I really enjoyed the story even though a lot of it takes place in Avengers Tower with a few of the Avengers sitting around a table. This issue also begins with a new creative team. The new writer is Kelly Sue DeConnick and the new artist is Stefano Caselli. They both do a good job with this issue. I normally get worried when they change creative teams on books I have been enjoying but nothing to worry about here.
Avengers Assemble #9 - 9.
Cool cover and I love the Hulk on this cover. Check it out for yourself.
Here is issue #10 of Avengers Assemble and it has another great cover. Originally I thought this book was only going to feature the characters from The Avengers movie but they have featured many different Avenger characters. Very good series to get into if you haven't already. Here is a pic of #10.
This has been a fun series and they have started to bring in other Avengers that were not in the movie a few issues ago. I have read issues 10 and 11 but haven't got to the Annual or #12.
Avengers Assemble #10 - 8.
Avengers Assemble #11 - 10! Very good issue!
