I just treated myself to one of these beauties. I'm about to set it up now, I can't wait. Got a great night of geeky fun ahead.
There's an absolutely incredible sale going on for the next two weeks on these sets. They came out last September at $499.00 and I guess they didn't sell that well because they're practically giving them away now. I got the following bundle: the 24" 3D HDTV, two pairs of 3D glasses, and two pretty new PS3 games (the new Motorstorm and the new MLB the Show) all for $299.00!
I'll post my impressions later. Off to build a little mancave in my basement :)
So, can the PS3 display a 3D Blu-Ray film on this monitor too? Something like "Avatar?"
Yes there's no coax input but one component and 2 HDMI ports for your devices. So HD cable box, PS3, & Xbox 360 is my set up. The PS3 plays 3D blurays, and Comcast broadcasts some 3D content. I'll probably rarely use the 3D since my eyes can't really see it anyway, but we needed a 2nd set in the basement anyway so I couldn't pass up the sale
So just a quick update after a couple days enjoying this set. I'm very happy with the purchase. I wouldn't have ever paid $500, but for just a bit more than half that price it's an absolute steal.
Just a couple words about the issues with the set, which are few. The screen is small. 24" is just tiny these days, especially since I've gotten quite used to my 27" iMac screen over the past couple years now. If there was any way to run my game consoles using the iMac as a monitor, I would not have bothered with this purchase at any price. But my setup has me pretty close to the screen and when that is the case, it doesn't really matter how small it is because it's right infront of your face. It took some getting used to though, since I was playing on my 42" before. The only other problem is the lack of a remote. The buttons are kind of awkwardly placed on the set and it takes some fumbling to get things set up the way I want them.
That said, this is a great little monitor. The picture quality on this LCD screen is absolutely gorgeous. It blows away my off brand 42" HD set, everything looks much brighter, sharper, clearer. The speakers on the set are great too, directional sound is fantastic and I really feel like I've got surround even with just the stereo set up. I played a 3D game and wasn't blown away or anything, but as I've said elsewhere 3D doesn't really impress me and doesn't work for my eyes. I don't like how everything is darker with the glasses on, like watching TV with sunglasses. It's pretty dumb in my opinion but the kids and family might enjoy it.
The coolest feature is one that's unique to this set for gaming. Sony calls it Simulview, which is basically two players in a local multiplayer game can wear the glasses, and each player sees a different full screen of the action from their own perspective. No more split screen multiplayer, as long as games support this feature. I don't really understand the tech, something about an incredible 240Mhz refresh rate that allows 3D imaging for four separate eyes at the same time. I believe the benefit of this super high refresh rate though impacts how great the picture looks when watching normal TV though, especially with fast actions like sports and adventure movies.
I haven't picked up my new cable box yet so can't comment on how HD TV looks. I watched some Netflix through the Xbox but couldn't pick up an HD stream...standard def looks pretty bad. I'll get the box soon and see.
Oh right, I heard about these. The tech is intriguing, but I can imagine its not selling well.
King
I imagine at this price they're clearing stock and they'll be gone forever pretty soon.
Amazingly they have lowered the price again on these sets, and knocked another $100 off the price. For the month of July only $199 for this gorgeous HD, 3D 24" monitor. I'd say if you have any need at all for a small second or third television set, or want to upgrade an existing computer monitor, even if you aren't a gamer, this is an incredible bargain. The set comes with a pair of glasses, and I'm not sure if this rock bottom pricing means the bundle that I got at $299 (an extra pair of glasses and two 3D games) is history, but at this price you really can't go wrong.
