New OS version coming for Mac's. Looks like they are making them more like iPad's and iPhones with some of the same App's, etc.

I have the latest version of Lion and really like it on my iMac.
It's interesting they've stopped marketing it as "Mac" OS X, just plain OS X now.
I wouldn't be surprised if Macs were phased out in 5-10 years and the whole business became an iOS hybrid of some sort. Interesting.

No way. Do you know how much money they make on iMac, MacBook, and high end towers they sell to the graphic design and film business? And they do so with huge margins.

Well I meant software wise. No doubt there will still be Mac desktop computers. I'm saying that eventually we may see iPads and Macs running pretty much the same software with a few specific bits and bobs relevant to the particular architecture and use case.
Oh, sorry, you said Macs, which is the hardware.
Actually Bryan, Jobs states in his biography that his ultimate vision was to make the experience less desk top and much more mobile. He envisioned the "desktop" as being just a hub, and everything being done on devices like the iPad. In fact, he dreamt up the iPad many, many, many years before it was developed! So, in a sense I see Apple moving away from the traditional iMac, Mac Pro and things like that.
Oh, mobile is the future for sure, but the desktop business will be around for a long time.

I know, confusing. Lol I was referring to removing the Mac name from the desktop OS therefore disassociating the software from the hardware.
I could see future Apple computers not using the Mac name though. Current Macs will run OS X 10.8 but a future Apple computer which isn't a Mac might run OS XI etc.
I can see like I said, eventually we may have some synergy between the iOS and OS X operating systems. Maybe when the iOS version number matches the desktop OS number we may see a rebranding then.
So we basically have Apple merginging iOS with OSX and Windows throwing 7 out the window and forcing 8 and Metro UI on us and a whole new coding scheme. It's interesting how both are approaching mobile and desktop integration in similar ways, but completely different executions. But I cant help but think that MS is shooting themselves in the foot now, especially as far as developers go, with Apple announcing this new OS.
Anyway, Mountain Lion looks good, but I hope that isn't the extent of all the features. To me, (and sorry if this sounds entitled), but these are basically just apps and nothing OS changing really. Almost seems like they could just do a free upgrade on this. Idk, just a thought. But, these are very cool. Certainly tempts me more to get an OSX computer sometime in the near future :).

I think you're right about that. It's a similar move to how they dropped "Computer" from their name and how they dropped "Phone" from iOS (remember when it was called iPhone OS?). If there's one thing Apple is good at, it's realigning themselves both operationally and in name.
Yes, that will be the long term goal. They are discussing it right now on CNBC....
