Title: Legend~ the Directors cut
Post by: PortlandJosh on January 12, 2012, 09:47:12 PM
Why Ridley?  Rico's podcast on the movie Legend, reminded me of how much I loved that movie growing up, and how it influenced me as an artist, songwriter and whathaveyou.  After the podcast episode, I immediately queued it up on netflix.  What followed was the ultimate pile-up.  The only version available from netflix was the Ridley Scott directors cut; orchestral score, additional scenes and lines, etc.  This version of the movie was a wipe in my opinion.  I grew up totally in love with the tangerine dream score, and the over-the-top artistic construction of the movie.  The colors, sounds and grittiness of the film epitomized high fantasy to my young mind.  Without them, it just wasn't the same story. :(

What are your thoughts?

I recall some additional lines from the scene with 'Meg' & Jack in the swamp that seemed to get dropped from the streaming version I saw on Netflix.  I'll have to check out this version through Netflix.

It is hard to watch a different version of something when you are very used to a previous version.  I feel the same way for many of the changes to the "Star Wars" movies.  Easiest thing is to pick up the Blu-Ray (it's cheap) - I think it has both versions of "Legend" on it (I do like the Tangerine Dream score too).
