The screening -- a first for Star Trek -- will be seen in nearly 300 theatres across the U.S. and Canada. A one-night only event, the screening will also feature a special introduction by Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry, son of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, plus a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Remastered series. "The Menagerie" screening is in part to promote the HD-DVD/DVD release the following week (Nov. 20) by CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment.

nuts, the closest screening is over 2 hours away for me
I've got a couple theaters near me. This is going to be so cool. I'm going to try and do something special for it. A special podcast event or something!
This will be my bday present for the whole family! We are going to go out for dinner in Olympia and then head over to the show. Olympia is only 45 minutes from my house.
We are all looking forward to this. How cool.
There is a theater about 40 minutes from us and we plan to attend! This is so COOL!
Kevin
Oh...there are two in Austin. Just a hop, skip and a jump away. Definitely going to watch this!
This is cool news, they have not mentioned the Canadian Dates, yet, hopefully my city will get it, though my gut tells me most likely only Toronto/Vancouver.
Why dont they do anything like this in toronto canada
Trailer for this now up (posted by me on YouTube):
I just bought my ticket. Yup, singular ticket. :(
A bunch of my geek friends are going to see it, but they live an hour or more away and I'm too lame to be out late on a Tuesday night. There's a theater less than 10 minutes from my house which is playing it, so I'll see it there.
I offered to buy a ticket for my wife, but she passed. She's a TNG-DS9-VOY Trekkie but isn't a Kirk fan. (Nobody's perfect.)
Just bought a ticket for my daughter and myself. I am really looking forward to seeing this on the big screen!!!!

Well if they'd do it anywhere in Canada it'd be in the T-Dot.
Its a pity I can't see it here in Kalamth....*whaaaa* I'd love to see it. But its an hour long drive to the nearest theater and I have no car. :(

A second night has been added! Now on both Nov. 13th and 15th! :metallica:

On Tuesday, November 13, and Thursday, November 15, the two-part Star Trek Remastered version of "The Menagerie" will beam onto the big screen in a special engagement with selected theatres. The screening — a first for episodic Star Trek on this scale — will be seen in more than 300 venues across the U.S. and Canada. This two-night-only event will also feature a special introduction by Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry, son of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, plus an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Remastered series.
"The Menagerie" will be presented in its digitally remastered, high-definition format and in Cinema Surround Sound. The screening is in part to promote the HD-DVD/DVD release the following week (Nov. 20) by CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment.
If you recall, the two-part "Menagerie" is the only episode to feature the casts of both the original pilot and the regular series, with Spock the only character to make the transition from from the pilot to the series. Much of the footage, of course, is taken from the rejected first pilot "The Cage." The story sees the Vulcan hell-bent on returning Captain Pike to Talos IV, the intention being that this is where his injured former commander can peacefully live out the rest of his days. Spock risks his career in Starfleet by hijacking the Enterprise and faces a court-martial for his actions. All this is eventually revealed to be an illusion, courtesy of the Talosians and their very strong telepathic hallucinations. Spock is then exonerated, Pike is returned and everything works out in the end. (Oops! Sorry to give it away!) "The Menagerie" was the 16th episode of Star Trek produced, and the 11th one to air.
I purchased my tickets this morning, so I am good to go :) Really looking forward to it. Happy to see a lot of Movie Theatres in Canada are showing it.
That is so cool that you get to see it on the big screen Jeff. YAY!
I was hoping they would do that in Canada.
How great. :vulcan
GO CANADA!
$12.50 !!?? Do we get a free phaser (type 2 -- no stinking type 1) ?
I think it's funny that you guys complain about $12.50 for a movie ticket.. that has been the price of a movie for a few years if you see it at Mann's Chinese Theater in Hollywood. And if you go to the Archlight Cineramadome it's $14.00 per ticket. And those are for regular movies.
I generally go to matinées here in Michigan and it costs about $7.50 for those. Night time is about $10. Yes, in California these prices are inflated as is housing and other things. But I live in Michigan. Keep in mind these prices are getting very close to the cost of a DVD. And the studios wonder why people aren't going to the movies as much anymore. They really need to rethink this or they are going to continue to keep people away. I love seeing movies out, but now I generally only go to things I really want to see in the theater. I used to go out to movie almost every week. Not anymore.
Here in Aberdeen matinees are only $5 and regular times are $7.50.
It's different everywhere I guess.
Well we are all ready to go for tomorrow night!
I am meeting a bunch of fellow fans at Red Robin for dinner in Olympia at 5:30, then we are headed over to the cinemas for the show at 7:30. Oh boy! How cool.
Maybe we can all talk about our experience on Wednesday. Don't forget to wear your treks in sci fi shirts and take a few pictures. That would be cool to see everyone going to this!
Sounds great Rick. My son and I are going tonight and I'm going to try and record a little audio during the experience, also before and/or after the show.
My daughter and I are psyched!!! This is going to be a really fun night. One of us will definitely be wearing the Treks In Sci-Fi t-shirt.
4 1/2 hours and counting!!! Whoot!
Duffster
Damn closest theater is in Buffalo, NY. 2 hour drive increased by crossing the border. A note must be made to include Canada in these events!
I thought they did finally include Canada? Maybe just not a location close to you.
OH. MY. GOD. I didn't see the Canadian locations link! There's a show 10 minutes from here! I'll be booking tickets for the 15th I think (if it's not sold out!)
Thanks for making me look twice Rico!
I was really annoyed about the whole $12.50 thing. I think it's crazy that a normal movie costs $9, but was really annoyed that they're extorting extra cash from Trek fans. My wife, however, said that I guess fandango (where you get movie tickets) has a deal where if you use your discover card you can get 2 for 1 tickets. I'd post a link, but I'm at work and their site is blocked. Just thought I'd report in case anyone wants to check it out. It's not a big savings, but I feel better about it.
She just got our tickets from fandango. There was a $1 something service charge per tickets, so 2 tickets for $14 something.
I'll be curious to know. Was there anything you saw that you..
1. Didn't know
2. Never saw before
In oklahoma, the are like 13 dollers per ticket only showing in 2 theaters that are both over 60 miles away.
I'm not going!
Off to the movie in about 30 Minutes, looking forward to it.
It was great seeing the big-screen presentation. The new FX shots look great blown-up. The comparison shots of the original footage and the new really showed off both the new FX and the great job they did cleaning up the footage and enhancing/restoring the colors.
As a once-in-a-lifetime thing, it was well worth the money I spent.
I had a great time as well, and felt it translated well to the Big screen. I am not sure if it was that I was watching it on the big screen, or with a group of other Trek fans, but there were a few humourous spots that I nver really expected. I have seen the menagerie a few times, and never laughed at parts, but this time I did. I think the biggest laugh of the night came when they Showed Vina as the Orion Slave Girl, then panned to Kirk and the look on his face, everyone got a good chuckle out of that.
This was a lot of fun, I hope it is successful as would love to see them try another one in the future.
We just got back from Olympia, and it was a great show! Yes, Jeff, I thought it was really cool watching this with a large audience. We probably had a couple hundred people in the theater and they laughed at the part you said, and then when Spock yelled "the WOMEN!" and when the aliens started talking about the young woman having desires. We all laughed at her expression. Many times when Spock would display emotions the theater would break out laughing. THen at the end... the whole place applauded. That was kind of cool.
I really enjoyed the making of the enhanced episode feature and Gene's son did a great job hosting. The promo at the end was nice too. Overall, a very pleasurable experience. As has been stated, a once in a lifetime opportunity! How awesome!
Take a look at our pictures.
Great pics Rick. Glad you enjoyed it. I'm jealous.
There were a few moments of laughter, mostly concerning Kirk's libido.
When Spock was admiring the plants, there were comments in the seats around me. "He smiled!"
My younger son Eric and I went last night and had a fun time. We were lucky and one of the theaters showing it in Michigan was only like 15 minutes from our house. The theater wasn't the largest and when we walked in about 10 minutes until show time it was pretty packed with geeks! We found a couple of pretty good seats. It was great seeing it on the big screen and the intro stuff was very cool. As well as seeing the new effects on the big screen.
To answer markinro's question, yes even I noticed things I hadn't seen before in many TV viewings. On top of that the new effects for this one hadn't been seen before nor had the intro stuff and behind the scenes footage. The theater was having slight trouble with the sound but it got worked out. All in all it was a once in a lifetime experience.
I recorded some audio of our trip to the theater and there as well. Going to try and do a mini podcast about it all later this evening. Still one more night of showings for those that haven't gone yet. If you are a Trek fan - you will really enjoy this.
My daughter and I really enjoyed the evening. It's pretty funny that all the parts that everyone has already mentioned, were the parts where everyone in our theater laughed also.
I was really packed here also, and it was great to be with our fellow geeks watching this once in a life time opprotunity.
Geeks rule...Trek rulez!!!!

OMG - geeks to the left of me, geeks to the right of me. Its like watching Big Bang Theory. :D
My wife and I went last night and had a great time. The theatre was one of their bigger ones and was almost half full. I don't live in a big city so half full is good for this area and Sci-Fi. As with the rest of you. The laughs came at the same times. Very glad I went to this and hope to see more events like this in the future.
The one thing that did bug me was that three people had to go out and ask them to turn off the lights in the theatre. Then when the movie was over they never turned the lights back on. I think they just forgot about us geeks in there.
I'm really looking forward to heading to the showing tomorrow night with my wife. I'm amazed she agreed! She's really not a TOS fan.
That is great everyone had great experiences as well, and sounds like the audience reaction was similar for everyone. We had some Klingons at the theatre as well, who were patrolling the door, and made the showing a lot more fun. They cut off the season 2 preview at the end a bit early, so it must have been they wanted us geeks out of the theatre ;)
I'm really glad I got to see it. I took my wife who is not a Trek fan. I think she maybe thought it was better than she expected, but she's not ready to watch all my DVDs (I'm not sure how that's possible). For me it's my all time favorite Trek story, and it was a lot of fun to see it on the big screen. I did notice details that I hadn't seen before, and people seemed to laugh in the same places that everyone mentioned...places I had never really thought were funny. I wish all the behind the scenes stuff was new. Some of it I had seen in the trailer for the Enhanced episodes...no big deal though, I still liked it. Didn't they say that you could flip the HD-DVD's over and watch in DVD? That's pretty cool for people that haven't upgraded their systems yet. The original effects never really bother me, but boy you could see the difference when they showed the original Enterprise and then went to the new version on the big screen. The theater had a decent crowd for a Tues, but it was nowhere near being crowded. We had maybe 40-50 people. I was hoping some fans would go all out and dress up or something, but nobody did. It was a great way to watch a great episode. I wish I could see all my Trek like that. It'll be interesting to hear how it does.
us too, it took them like three minutes to turn down the lights, and they never did turn them back on again.
What???
We had a similar light problem. I used to manage a theater years ago. I never worked in the projection booth, so I'm not exactly sure how it works, but I think normally they splice something onto the reel after the feature presentation clip that shuts off the lights. This had no trailers or clips like that so the projectionist probably had to do it manually.
I thought the show was great. I have not watched this one in quite some time. Now i am going to watch it and see how it compared to last night :)

I thought it was cool to get to eat dinner together! It was a fun night. Thanks for coming with us coastgames. :)
I saw it with a buddy last night. I thought it was fantastic. I was a bit disappointed in the size of the crowd, probably about 60 people.
Otherwise, it was great. It looked awesome on the big screen.
So basically I probably shouldn't be worried about huge crowds tonight?
My Guess is it will not be as busy as Thursday. I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and we probably had about 200 people on Tuesday. I am not sure what the theatres are like in Toronto, but the one it showed in here was the older type theatre, and not the Stadium Seating type, so you might want to get there early to make sure you get a decent seat if it is an older theatre.
There were still alot of seats when we went. I was worried we would not find space for 8 of us to sit by each other. But when we got there I changed my mind. Still it was worth going :)
And yes dinner was great moyer777, thanks for the invite.
I went to a play of Oklahoma last night instead.
Playing again tonight.
Wonder why they aren't showing it on the weekend?

Wonder why they aren't showing it on the weekend?
I'd say because they probably got the theater cheaper during the week and it won't cut into the weekend box office. Some big movies are starting to come out now for the holidays.
I would have gone to see it if it would have been in my local theater, which is 33 miles away!
It bothers me when they show trailers for stuff they won't show in their theater. They did run the Menagerie preview but I would have to drive 70 miles to see it.
Seems like a false advertisement.
They also won't show Michael Moore's movies. They have the right not to but I think it's wrong of them to show the previews and not show the movie when it comes out.
Gateway Stadium 16 Austin TX 78759 ... ugh i missed it. :(
I just started listening to the podcast on the 14th..i miss everything. :/
Yeah, I had planned to see it in Austin too...got busy with other things and didn't go. It sounds like it was a great experience. I wonder if anyone dressed up like Klingons...OH, who am I kidding? Of course they did! Austin's unofficial motto is "Keep Austin Weird."
We just got back, it was a lot of fun. Not too many people showed up but it was a good group. A lot of giggling at Spock and Kirk. Overall I'm glad I went!
mann.. i wish i could have seen some klingonz. :D
I think the premiere of the new star trek movie should have an interesting crowd show up. :]
And i hope they sell shirt for the movie because I can't ever find any my size on ebay. :/
I had a lot of fun watching the "movie" this past Tuesday. I managed to bring a girlfriend of mine who has never watched Star Trek before. She said she really liked it so now it's time to show her more episodes. Hopefully, she'll get hooked.
"The WOMEN!" That was simply too funny.
As you can see, I sported the podcast t-shirt that evening.
lol that's great...most girls i know like the old star trek series more...not sure why but i guess it's because shatners hot..haha.
She actually said that she'd rather watch TOS rather than the newer hi-tech special effects series. And yes she did say that Shatner's "very handsome."
I like that you wore your Treks In Sci-Fi shirt! Glad you guys had fun. :)
One thing I noticed is a LOT clearer in the enhanced version is how they soften the lens when they do closeups on the "woman of the episode". It wasn't as apparent in SD but in HD blown up on the big screen I could really see it.
