Will run the Star Trek Newest Generation saga here. As mentioned in the Comm Panel there is a movie afoot at Vartok Studios. The Vartok offspring has decided, along with a number of other high school students, to make a Star Trek video, that I think will end up on Youtube before it's all done. They have been busy the last week making props and costumes and started principal video taping this evening. This should be fun to watch. I snapped off a photo of part of the cast here tonight (several more show up tomorrow apparently). Take a look below. LLAP.

This looks great!
AWESOME! Classic Trek!!
Rick - you guys didn't get dressed up when you/dave/rob and alan did those tapes - did you?

Not during the recording sessions, but we did for some early conventions. Still have my old uniform - somewhere.
I'm all for anything that will keep kids off the streets and doing something productive. Good luck with this project!

I had a home made TOS top when I was 13 and a better version today...with a cuter girl as well. :)
Classic Bryan! Vartok - love what you are doing and everyone involved. Make sure to keep me posted and send me some type of audio stuff to play on the podcast about what you are up to. People love hearing about fan productions.

I'll capture some Actor's comments on my H2 recorder and provide an audio segment about fan video production for this week's podcast.

"Star Trek The Newest Generation" (my title since they haven't thought one up yet) is into its second day of filming and will apparently continue over the weekend. I was able to sneak in some short interviews with the cast and crew and will submit an audio segment to you Rico for this weekend. I think they would get a kick out of hearing themselves on iTunes Sunday afternoon. Who knows, you may have 9 new podcast fans after they listen in. ;-) If you look at the photo below you will see there are six females and two males in the cast (they have two other male extras). Is the tide turning?
Their answers to my ST awareness questions were interesting to listen to as it showed a wide range of ST knowledge with these 17-18 year olds. I think it's going to be several weeks before the video is complete. The plot, as I discovered during the interview, is well not your everyday ST plot. Wait and see.
Vartok
so cool. Need any music?
Thanks Rick, going to put it together tonight and well it calls for old fashioned Sandy Courage music - but thanks for that kind offer and I will bank it for another time! Although I will listen to my expansive Moyer music collection and maybe end it on a snippet from one of your parodies which I really love so much, if that's ok by you.
By the way, if you see a Scurrilean looking creature in the video when posted know that it was NOT Vartok, but from another house on Scurrilea.
V
of course! :)
That's just great Vartok! Can't wait to see more! Definitely send in some audio for the show this week.
Hi all, I wanted to correct the notion that Vartok had much to do with the fan movie - couldn't be further from the truth. My "spawn" came up with the idea all on her own and recruited nine other students and friends to play all of the parts. They wrote the script, made the costumes, and prepared the sets all on their own. I only helped a bit on the sliding door to the bridge and that's about it. So they get all of the credit!
So I am as surprised as anyone about how this just came about.
V
enjoyed your segment on TSF.
Indeed, really interesting segment - paused listening to the podcast to see if there were any pictures of the set etc. Felt a little sorry for the cast facing the Trek inquisition though ;)
Great hearing the interviews with the cast. I love the fact that they are doing this in the TOS era after being inspired by the last movie. TOS rocks!
The "Trek Inquisition" was a bit tough (I cheated to look up the answers first) but it was done tongue in cheek and to see if there was any depth to their enthusiasm or just pure enthusiasm. What I found - some surprised me since they had clearly researched their roles (monotone voice and arms behind the back for Spock, cranky for McCoy, even hair colors!). Some were just innocent bystanders when the STO train came into town.
So it was all in good fun, and I did trim the interviews some for where they didn't have the answers for the most parts.
Now my thought is this - do they qualify as greater fans for participating in a STO video and wearing the uniform than say a fan like me who just watches and does an occasional music podcast. Got me thinking!
V ;-)
PS. I checked with the spawn of Vartok today and she indicated that all of them have listened to the podcast and thought it fun to be in the iTunes universe. Now onto the movie. Wonder when that will be done?
The kids were all very well spoken. :)
I checked and the movie premiere is August 15. Will post when up with a link. Some of you may think "that was not my father's Star Trek!" But so be it.

Dude, High School students doing an original TOS episode? I'm not sure how that could be more cool. :)
Really looking forward to the movie. How fun!
Just an update on the fan movie. Still in post-production (rework) after the cast had a party to view the draft version. They've posted a bloopers video but holding that until after you get to see the movie first.
V
OK, the high school graduates have posted their version of the Star Trek Fan movie. I must warn you, however, it is not for the faint of heart. There are two parts and possibly some bloopers, the link below is to Part I. I will post Part II later after you have all had a chance to see part I!
Live long and ...

Hilarious! Kudos!
OK, you've seen part I below (first), so now the cliffhanger ends

Indeed.
Rick Roll = best roll ;)
Very funny and entertaining for what was certainly low-budget. You guys pulled it off nicely. :)

Okay, that was fun! You guys rocked it. Everyone did a fine job! Thank you for putting this together and good luck with future endeavors. :boxing
Vartok - I think I liked the Dairy Queen trip video almost as much as the rest. You should post that up here too.
yes, the dairy queen segment was very funny.
Patience. guess no use stretching this out with impatient ST fans.
Blooper reel 1 (not the dairy queen)
