Title: Impasto Logs with...me!
Post by: Praxis on August 22, 2013, 04:43:42 PM
Hello brothers and sisters in trekness,

All this podcasting mastery was making me excited...... So I was inspired to start to start a podcast about my own area of expertise: representational oil painting. Maybe some of you artists out there will find it helpful or interesting.

IMPASTO LOGS with David Cheifetz
iTunes description:
"Impasto Logs" is an in-depth exploration of representational oil painting with professional fine artist David Cheifetz. Through the personal lens of his approach and philosophy towards art, David provides insights, tips, and advice to other artists and students. David's paintings (creations of both brush and knife) blur the line between classical and contemporary realism, drawing on elements of chiaroscuro, alla prima, impressionism, and abstraction.

Since I used to be an erstwhile artist, I'll have to give you a listen! Always interested in hearing about people's expertise.

Pencil and ink. I wanted to be a comic artist, but life ya know. I just got back into it a little, lots of sketching and inking. Really relaxes me.

Oh nice. And that's great you're getting back into it. Actually, when I started studying art so I could leave my first career, the goal was to do comic books/graphic novels. Part of the program at the atelier I attended was still life oil painting, so I did that because it was there, never thinking I'd really like it. I was halfway into a Zuda webcomic submission (remember zuda?) when I fell in love with oil painting, realized I could make money that way, and my focus shifted.

Really enjoy your sincerity and it sounds nice too.  What are you using to record with?  I'm not a painter, but I wish I was.

Thanks Rick! I'm using a little $45 sony digital voice recorder that I got on amazon. Works pretty good. Then I take it into garageband and spiff things up. I finally understand how much goes into creating a podcast..... I'm not a natural talker, so some massive editing was necessary. Lots of gaps and ums edited out (good thing I'm keeping the episodes short). But I'm having a blast with this.

I'm another one of those budding artists too.  Did a lot of art in college, even some life drawing classes which I stink at.  Definitely will check your show out.

A pretty good description of how you need to be in a serene state when you are being creative. Nice podcast.
