Please pray for the speedy recovery of my nephew - he is a wonderful kid who has been critically injured over the weekend:

I wasn't able to read the article, but hope he'll be ok.
I'm so sorry! Thoughts and prayers are with him this morning. How did this happen? I think I know that area and isn't it pretty remote for being in Philly?
WOW! Very sorry to hear this. I will keep him in my thoughts.
Our thoughts and prayers are with him and family. Keep us informed.

Thanks everyone. This was right next to the Art Museum in the center of the city. He is less than 2 months away from graduation and getting his JD.

Right, that's a big park, right? Near the river. Does he live near there?
It's not a park it's a high traffic area where there's tons of pedestrians heading to and from various Philly attractions (Franklin Institute, Art Museum, etc.) and idiot/maniac drivers swerving in and out of traffic lanes trying to get to the Schukyll Expressway as fast as they can. I'm so sorry this happened to your nephew, praying he pulls through.
Sorry to hear about this. I hope your nephew makes a speedy recovery.
I wonder if the driver was drunk or he was hard to see? It says it happened at around 2:30am.

Indeed, nothing good happens at 2:30am and is to be avoided.
That's horrible. For sure I'll be praying for his recovery.
Sorry to hear the news Pete, Hopefully your nephew pulls through, will be in my thoughts and prayers
I'll keep your nephew in my thoughts.. let's hope for a speedy recovery.
I prayed for him today. I hope he recovers quickly.
Thanks everyone. He had been playing poker with friends, and was on his way home. As he crossed the street, he passed a couple walking in the other direction. The couple heard a squeal as a car sped around the corner, they turned around and saw the car hit him then speed off. Thankfully they were there to call 911 - so Emergency services got him to the trauma center within about 15 minutes of the accident (the hospital is close at hand).
He is such a great kid. We talked about doing a bike tour this summer after he passed the bar examinations - we wanted to do the old 'LEJOG' UK tour - form Land's End to John O'Groats up north. This will have to wait.
Looks like they got the car, and are on the trail of the driver:

You have to figure the driver will turn him/herself in at this point.
Thoughts are with you mate. please keep us informed on how things go.

Is that your brother Pete? Keeping Tony in my prayers and that police will apprehend the person(s) responsible and get some answers.
Yes my brother - Tony's dad - was interviewed by the local press. Thanks for the prayers and support, I really appreciate it.
Arrest made today:

Wow - good news. How's Tony doing?
Good news they have got him. How is Tonys status?
Thanks for asking. Tony is still in critical condition. He is stable enough that they operated on his leg yesterday - and will attend to some of the problems with his arms and shoulders on Friday.

My nephew continues to come in and out of conscientiousness - but today he returned the Vulcan 'Live Long An Prosper' hand gesture to his sister! Man does that brighten my weekend!! There is still geek in there, and the lights are still on.
That's a good sign. I hope he's feeling better soon. Three years ago my younger son was hit by an SUV while riding his bike. Suffered a head injury. He's fine now, but those few weeks he was in the hospital were the worst time of our lives. I know how you feel. Hang in there.
Awesome news, keep us informed on his progress :)
Great news. Hope he continues to improve.
yay!
Great news, hopefully he continues to improve, and in good time.
A Temple University Law School student who remains in critical condition after a hit-and-run on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway is getting better, his father said yesterday.
Tony Foltz, 25, a third-year student, was hit by a car that police say was driven by Nicholas Hasselback, 22, a Temple senior, about 2:30 a.m. April 11 on the Parkway near 22nd Street.
"Tony is fighting very hard in making a terrific recovery," said Richard Foltz Jr., a partner in the Pepper Hamilton law firm.
"We're very optimistic about his future."
According to statements by his friends, Hasselback had told them he had been at the Public House restaurant and bar, at 18th Street near Arch, sometime before the accident, Assistant District Attorney Lynne O'Brien said after a brief court proceeding yesterday.
Hasselback's attorney, Andrew Gay Jr., said he couldn't comment on the case.
Hasselback is free after posting bail last week. A preliminary hearing scheduled for yesterday on charges of leaving the scene of an accident, aggravated assault and related offenses was postponed to June 8.
Hasselback, dressed in a dark blue pinstriped suit with his hair pulled back in a short ponytail, declined to comment on his case outside the courtroom as he was accompanied by his parents, Walter and Pamela.
His parents have previously said through Gay that their family was praying for a speedy recovery for Foltz.
Richard Foltz said by phone that his son, who is at Hahnemann University Hospital, opened his eyes on April 19 for the first time since the accident. Two days later, when Tony opened his eyes again, he "recognized me and his mother," his father said.
"At that point, we felt we were able to see our way all the way through this and see a glimpse of a bright future for Tony."
He has not been able to speak yet, but can communicate with gestures, according to his family.
In court yesterday, O'Brien told Municipal Judge Joseph C. Waters Jr. that she agreed that Hasselback can stay in Ephrata, Lancaster County, at his parents' house, while awaiting trial. She said she found out that the lease on his East Falls apartment will end today.
Great news that he recognised is parents. Thoughts are with you and your family :D
Great news - will continue to keep Tony in prayer.
Just came back from the sentencing hearing of Nicholas Hasselback. This is the guy that ran over my nephew, and then ran away - not turning himself in until 3 days later.
He will be a 'guest of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania' for the next 3 to 6 years - with 7 years probation (served concurrently). The minimum was 90 days - so the judge threw the book at him with that heavier penalty.

That's great.. glad he got more then a slap on the wrist.
Hit and run drivers are worse than scum. Pathetic cowards with no regard for anyone but themselves. I'm glad he was appropriately punished, and I was glad to read your nephew was able to appear in court on his own behalf.
I'm glad justice was served.
How is your nephew?

How is your nephew?
He is doing quite well - and trying to make up his last year and take the Bar examination. A few more surgeries are lined up for one of his arms.

Great that he is on the mend, what a tough cookie. I know he doesn't know us but let him know that your mates from TSF are with him and wish him all the best.
Some good news to share. After a year of struggling - my nephew received his JD (Juris Doctor) - or Law Degree last night.

Very good news and a testament to his abilities in so many ways.
How great! Enjoy the celebration party, I hope you blow it out!
Wow Pete what a brilliant kid. To go through all that and pass his degree. Great news.
Congrats to him and on his recovery too.
4 Years to the day when he was almost killed - he has kept his shoulder to the wheel, and yesterday he passed the Pennsylvania State Bar Exam. He will now be able to practice law!. Very, very proud of him!
Cool.
Congrats to him and the proud family. :)
Huge congratulations :)
that's great!!!!
